Ken, it's so refreshing to hear someone admit their limitations, and the help they required to move forward.

I absolutely love that solder station! Thank you mighty HiWatt for showing us once again that you can do scary things with some determination and wind up with not only a new skill, but some renewed gear and jams!! What is that riff you played?!

And you used a real Weller solder station instead of some crap you pick up at home depot with no temp control! Keep the tip tinned before turning off (or when sitting hot/idle for a spell) for longevity. Another +1 for actually using a solder sucker! Nice work, Ken!

Looks like things are coming along nicely Ken. All that soldering is probably a bit above my pay grade! :D My soldering skills lie somewhere between sad and pathetic. I do know the temp control can make a big difference like Steve said below. Could be part of my problem, a poor soldering wand with hi and lo settings. Proper tools can make all the difference in the world especially when you know how to use them. And oh man... that music!!! I think I played that back like 4 times today already!!!

I recall Many years ago around when Cevin key released the dragon Experience. He talked about working with you and talked about getting the old recordings off of old tapes and having to do all sorts of things like baking them. Would be interesting to get a deep dive on that, along with going over a track or 2 from the dragon experience. From my understanding the alum was mostly old recoding form the 80s that where restored and then produced using modern digital techniques. Any who keep em coming always fun to drop in ever few months and binge watch a bunch of these.

Hi Ken Your nice circuit board holder that you use, where can I buy such a tool. Your movies are so good and educationally valuable when I will renovate my own Revox A77 mk4

Awesome vid!! But what really been going thru my head during this video is "what temperature is that soldering iron set at ?" I've hacking my own gear off and on for years and i've fried some boards in my time but I have never really got the temperature figured out. What's the secret Ken? :D

A tip about cleaning circuit boards from the guys at Mic Parts. Use 90+% Alcohol on a paper towel and rub vigorously on the board to clean the flux off. The paper towel shreds something fierce but the flux gets removed along with the little bits of paper towel. Do it over the rubbish bin!
