Despite the Buu saga being my least favorite, my brother made an interesting observation about it. He said it took the earth's inhabitant's (mainly the saiyans) energy to resurrect Buu, and it took the earth's inhabitant's energy to defeat buu (via the Spirit Bomb). DBZ is very poetic and it's writing gets underappreciated.

I don't. There was literally nothing to leave a trauma there. Sure, people died, but all of them(besides Goku, who CHOSE to stay dead) came back. In the middle of Z, Gohan got used to it. The end of the Cell saga left Gohan as the "Protector of Earth", who was PROUD about what his father did. Why should he suddenly have PTSD because of it? IF they wanted him to get PTSD, they'd have needed to hint at it at least a bit. Just randomly PTSD out of nowhere is not good storywriting

The only reason it got written like that is because Toriyama doesn’t often plan ahead when creating stories. There's 100 different scenarios that could have happened if the story had been approached with a more concrete idea of the plot. For example, Ssj3 renders Majin Vegeta a bug to Goku. So had Toriyama had the concept in mind to begin with rather than coming up with the idea later, logically Goku would've used that in the fight against him to end it as quickly as possible and avoid awakening Buu. Am I happy that Satan gets to shine? Of course. Do I think Toriyama was trying to make a point with it? I'm less inclined to agree with that.

Yes, I love callbacks, showing even as things change the legacy from Son continues on. Not a direct reference but part of the full circle, I felt Gohan's line in the speech about "I'll be the reason they come back" was lovely. On one hand, it echoed my thoughts when Goku thought about how he was the reason all the enemies came, and I wanted to shout that he was the reason they survived them too. OTOH Gohan could've just yelled about destroying Buu, or about his anger, but instead he chose a line about life beyond the battle- a reminder that hope and optimism was a big part of Goku's legacy, and also that Gohan is truly letting go of the vengeance that pushed him in the Cell Games and the guilt that punished him afterward.

@@LjuboCupic1912 I feel like the arc had many flaws in both the anime and manga. It focused too heavily on universe 7 and it never felt like they were threatened. The only real challenge was universe 11 and only Jiren got a substantial amount of eliminations. Jiren as a character was also lacklustre as he didn't affect most of the arc and because he didn't interact with the characters enough, we just got clunky exposition from Belmod and the rest of his universe.

God of Jam The purpose of the arc wasn’t just to give us a glimpse of other universes (although there wasn’t much to differentiate, which is a huge let down) but for us to see old characters back in action for the first time in years or even decades. To me, the fan service alone makes it a good arc. Of course like most of Dragon Ball (lets be honest here) there’s tons of flaws. But those flaws dont inherently make it bad. Seeing Roshi get the shine he deserves and the return of Ultimate Gohan and Android 17 are some good things we got out of this arc. Those last 10 or so episodes are where things got pretty good. Although it did feel like a significant portion of the arc was dragged out more than it should have been. It’s not perfect but it’s not bad either. I would give it a 7.5/10.

I wouldn’t make it as important or making it the reason for buu transforming into kid buu, but I kinda liked the dynamic. I would also gone down gohan in this story a bit. It would be really cool to have gohan still have some trouble with buu so he doesn’t seem as op. I would lastly make goku a slightly bigger part of the story. As much as I like gohan taking center stage, I really love ssj3 and would like to see it on some action.

SSJ3 Goku should go toe to toe with the initial Buu before his time runs out and he is sent back to otherworld. Then the improved buu should be too much for him in Otherworld. That would fit it in, without making Goku centre stage.

The part that really sold me was Gohan taking on the main villain and Goku realizing that their roles were reversed. Before, Goku fought Frieza and Gohan had to make the wish to the dragon; now Goku's the one who has to go to the dragon while Gohan fights. What a fantastic way to show Gohan's growth in assuming the role as the new protector of earth!

I think in some ways the slow pace of the original arc is the inevitable impending doom that we see with everyone losing to Buu, but the issues it had were that the characters that lost still got a second change to fight, like Vegeta and Goku

HyperMonkeyBird I love Gohan. He’s my favorite character, but even I think the Buu Saga ended perfectly with Goku’s spirit bomb. I honestly love everything about Dragon Ball. Be it original Dragon Ball, Z, GT, or Super. I love each and every part for different reasons. I also don’t believe that Gohan’s PTSD would be that bad. I can understand some, but not so intense that he’d lose sight of himself.

This was meant to be his own rewrite of the Buu saga to where Gohan becomes the main character and saves the day, he also struggled to come up with a decent enough plot and was bound to miss a few things, plus he doesn't mention things and does imply most of them happening without directly saying like Goku saying "We've still got that one wish elft" to indicate that Buu used a Goku clone to find Namek and restore the Time Chamber door so he could absorb Gohan and Gotenks. What I'd like to know though is how Gohan got so powerful without having his potential unleashed.

Frankly I think the point of the Buu arc was to show that one person, no matter what, can't be the end all be all. Vegeta gave himself for his family, but it wasn't enough. Goku had broken through his limits and attained Super Saiyan 3, but again, not enough. Goten and Trunks combined their power and their grief into Gotenks, but once more they failed. Gohan had returned better than ever before, but he fell. Teamwork is the keyword here. But while Dragon Ball Super has seemed to retcon this into fusion, I believe that fusion was introduced to show a misstep. Even Vegito, as mighty as he was, couldn't get the job done. But Goku, Vegeta, Hercule, the good Buu and everyone coming together finally ended the demon's life. And that was the original ending of the series, Goku's story came to a close upon realizing that togetherness will always trump a single force, no matter how overwhelming it may seem. This story you created is great, but I think you missed the point.

Then how is it that if it takes ssj3 goku to deal with the weaker fat buu; that vegeta can go toe to toe with kidd buu for a bit and then become a punching bag for the thing and still not die...further? This is also more important considering kid buu mopped the floor with fat buu after a bit. How come goku at ssj3 isn't dominated? My point is the buu could have, and should have demolished: vegeta, goku, fat buu, and of course mr. H; who has plot armor hence his lack of ability to die. In short the only way for the original to make sense in any sort of way is either to have vegeto reform or have gohan replace vegeta, sense he is at least ssj3 level of strength.

You know, this story is very impressive. I've always wanted the story to leave Gohan as the main character. But there are a few more things I would want to incorporate from the original in this rewrite. First off, call me crazy, but I WANT Gohan's college life included in it's entirety (minus the Saiyaman stuff). In this, Videl does not figure out Gohan's secret from Saiyaman cuz he is not a thing, but Gohan being forced to turn into the 'Golden Warrior' one more time because of circumstances, and Videl catches him un-transforming. I really feel that the mini-arc in the college brought a immense amount of depth to his character, along with slice-of-life humour, and other details. Another thing I would want to include is the relationship between Hercule and Majin Buu. That brought a very interesting character dynamic and even developed Hercule as a character, a character actually meant to be a gag. In your story, instead of Fat Buu, I would want it to be Super Buu just like in the original, after the separation and absorption of Good Buu. Buu could even play a part in the final fight, like in the original, where Goku and Vegeta free him as well, and the final fight be everyone vs. Kid Buu. That way, all forms of Buu are properly used in this arc. Also, on a side-note, I wouldn't change a bit of any part of the World Tournament, I would only add to or modify it very slightly. It serves to emphasise the growth of the characters, as well as introducing new ones. I definitely loved the changes you made to Goten and Trunks. Along with a prominent activity of characters like Piccolo of your's as well. Great touch. Now, if you read all of this, I'm glad you were interested enough to read an opinion of a 17 year old who did not spend even a hour thinking about this. People who read this, I appreciate that you appreciate my opinion. Also, please reply if you want something else added to this arc, new or original. Agreed, Gohan's college arc should've stayed (maybe with some minor changes), it almost gives him a Peter Parker (Spiderman) vibe with that. The World Tournament should also stay the same, it was great and served multiple purposes, reintroducing importantt characters as well as driving home some important points. However, here comes the question of how Gohan's character developed over the years. If we say that he's still a calm, peaceful teenager who can snap when under extreme stress, an extra dramatic scene could be added; First of all, make Gohan enter the tournament under the Saiyaman guise (helmet and all). Then, during Gohan's "match" with Kibito, he would only power up to SSJ, which is plenty powerful to attract Spopovich & Yamu and to shock Kibito. Then he gets jumped by the duo and paralyzed by the Supreme Kai as in the show, but this time, Spopovich runs his mouth about what happened during the fight with Videl. Enraged, Gohan's SSJ2 explodes and cracks the energy device. Then, with the ruthlessness of a true saiyan warrior, Gohan delivers a powerful roundhouse kick to Spopovich's head; the same kick Videl used on him. But this time, instead of twisting his neck, the villain's head is blown clean off (chance for a minor side-arc for Goten & Trunks here, as they would have opposing reactions to Gohan's actions. Trunks would think that was correct, but Goten wouldn't be so sure). Yamu would then make his escape, terrified, while Goku and Piccolo have to calm Gohan down, though he is outspoken and judgemental about their willingness to put Videl's life at risk. Then, they head to Babidi's spaceship, and Gohan insists to come along as well. Unlike in Mark's idea, I don't see any reason for people to object. Vegeta would approve, Goku would probably giggle and be giddy about it as well, though a trademark worried monologue from Piccolo could happen. At the spaceship, what should happen is: Goku fights Pui-Pui, Gohan fights Yakon, Vegeta fights Dabura. This would allow Gohan to overwhelm Yakon instead of almost jobbing to Dabura. And the way Yakon got defeated is a perfect moment for Gohan to SSJ2 and shock Babidi with his power. Then Vegeta could have a good fight with Dabura, and end it in a draw (in normal SSJ). Throughout the fight, Dabura would sense the instability of Vegeta's heart and mental state, and get the idea to turn him. Hence, he leaves and tells the idea to Babidi and we proceed as it was in the show. The energy Gohan released in the fight with Yakon, as well as Goku & Majin Vegeta's fight is enough to awaken Buu. Another important change is that during the Final Explosion scene, it should be Piccolo & Gohan (instead of Krillin). Gohan has known Vegeta for, like 10+ years now, and witnessing the Saiyan Prince's determined sacrifice would shake Gohan to his core and jumpstart a period of self-reflection. Gohan can then enter the Time Chamber with Piccolo & the kids, but train separately from them (also a good time to wrap-up the Goten & Trunks side arc from before, culminating in a successful fusion). The Buu - Hercule arc stays, it was great. It also gives the viewers insight into what Buu was actually like, more of a spoiled child with no idea of good or bad, rather than someone who's truly evil. Stuff then proceeds as usual, but Super Buu exhibits signs of struggling with what he's supposed to be doing as he absorbs more people (like Chi-Chi, etc) because it eventually adds more and more positive energy into him, although he does get stronger as a result. Gotenks fights Buu and is eventually joined by SS3 Goku, but first Piccolo, then Gotenks get absorbed and Goku cannot keep up anymore (yeah, we're skipping Mystic Gohan entirely!). This leads to Vegito shenanigans, the stomach invasion, you know it. As Kid Buu destroys the Earth, the final struggle on the Sacred World of Kai begins. As it becomes Vegeta's turn to fight, Goku realizes that Gohan must still be alive in the Time Chamber even though Earth got destroyed, and asks the Supreme Kai if it's possible to get him. They can (c'mon, they're gods!) and do, and Gohan joins Goku & Vegeta... But as Vegeta is about to step back into the fray, Gohan stops him. He asks to have a go at Kid Buu, and while Vegeta isn't entirely happy about it, he's shocked by such a request from Gohan and obliges. This is where it all leads to, a one-on-one between Kid Buu and Gohan. Without any further ado, Gohan would power up and reveal his mastery of the Super Saiyan 2 state. Just like years ago, against Cell, Goku and Gohan took their aptitude with the SSJ forms to the extreme, Gohan has done the same for SSJ2, his most iconic transformation. We see the pale blonde hair rather than the standard yellow. Instead of surging outwards, the surges of lightning converge and coil around his limbs and body. The difference is as astronomical as we remember it, and Vegeta smirks, recalling the first time he saw Gohan achieve the transformation. This was the feeling he got back then; nothing like the pathetic attempt during the Tournament. It would quickly become apparent that Gohan was more than a match for Kid Buu and they would have a good fight that culminates in Gohan blasting Buu to shreds; however, as the creature keeps regenerating, Vegeta and Gohan join forces to keep it at bay while Goku charges the Spirit Bomb with Hercule's aid. And you know the rest.

I rarely leave comments on videos, but your story moved me so deeply that I found myself crying midway through. Gohan's journey of redemption touched me profoundly, especially the moment where he almost walked away from his brother, only to ultimately choose to stay, clinging to even the slightest hope of rescue. The final battle was incredible as well-the Goku and Vegeta mimics completely caught me off guard! And the reunion between Gohan and Goku was so emotional; it really hit me hard. I would have loved to see more of Gotenks, but overall, this story was truly remarkable.

A big criticism I have with this is that while it certainly adds the apocalyptic and threatening feel to Buu, I feel like this rewrite erased his character. Arc villains and their traits are incredibly iconic in Dragonball, but here Buu is as doomsday villain as it gets. I really liked the Chekhov's gun moment with the fusion dance and Buu manipulating Gohan though... But Gohan taking on a Buu who has absorbed Gotenks, Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo and being a challenge is a bit immersion breaking to me. I think this rewrite might be a bit too serious overall. Part of what made the Buu saga, while not amazing, the Buu saga was how absurd and high energy the arc was. While this rewrite features more in depth character development, I think the arc really lost its wacky core identity in the progress.

As this is more of a summary of a possible rewrite than an actual rewrite, I think the insanely goofy nature of Buu would counter balance very well with Gohan. This could lead to some great moments. The summary of any arc in the series could be portrayed in this ultra serious tone, but it's the moments in between the most important plot points that allow Dragon Ball to have the great charm it does. As a final point to this ramble, what makes Dragon Ball such an excellent action series is that every fight tells a story. This rewrite carries that tradition better than the original Buu arc did. At least in my opinion.

Hm, it's definitely a couple steps forward, but also in some ways a couple of steps back. I definitely love the final fight a ton. However, I have a few complaints regarding this version. 1) Videl still isn't very necessary in this story. She could be taken out, and it would still work. Perhaps if Buu killed her, making Gohan seek vengeance against Buu? 2) Likewise, Gotenks wasn't very necessary. As much as I love fusion, I don't think it's really necessary in this case. Perhaps if it was a sort of mini-arc for just Goten and Trunks? Something they have to figure out by themselves to defeat some mini-villain? Idk. 3) Gohan's PTSD. While I find it is very much a realistic aspect and I did enjoy it, I also feel that it is too mature of a subject for DBZ. A better alternative would be Gohan having difficulties with his mixed heritage in some way. Something that ties into the reason WHY Gohan was born with so much untapped potential. Perhaps his saiyan and human biology had chaotic effects, effects that were only activated when he transformed into the Oozaru form as a kid (something neither Goten nor Trunks ever did). Basically, it gives Gohan a reason to have a berserker like rage and ultimately attack Vegeta as mentioned in the video. As he grew, his enormous power became more and more difficult to control. In this way, we could also see Gohan going to Piccolo for help, returning to his original mentor. 4) Buu still isn't a very satisfying villain. And I mean, I really liked the relationship between Hercule and Buu. Perhaps if Hercule ended up dying, and Buu swore vengeance against the people of Earth? Or something like that. Also, rather than absorbing Gotenks, it would probably be more appropriate if Buu gained a ton of power by absorbing both Goku and Vegeta. And thus, Gohan indirectly proves that he has surpassed his father. Again, this story is a very nice rewrite. However, it created just as many new problems as it solved. Regardless, I absolute loved several moments in this rewrite, that I wish we actually had in canon.

Feminum 1) Just because something, or someone, isn’t necessary to the progression of the story dosen’t mean it should be erased. A pretty big example of this is Nail. He fused with Piccolo and fought against Frieza but that wasn’t even close to enough to make a difference, by your logical, making him unnecessary. Videl being killed off would have been a brutal, UNNECESSARY, thing to happen. 2) I always saw Gotenks as the cementing of the friendship between Trunks and Goten, the fact the pair could fuse and maintain so much of both of their personalities. In the original, gotenks was important. This version however: not so much. 3) This is insane. Dragon Ball Z is already mature with consistent themes of death and brutality. Krillin getting stabbed in the Frieza Arc is a enormous example of this. PTSD isn’t too mature at all, and is totally believable. 4) This one I actually agree with. In DBZ, Buu is, to me at least, a interesting villian. Mainly due to his good Vs Bad conflict going on within him, and the fact that Good Buu is actually not a villian. It’s quite literally the only time in Z where a villian turned good. The rewrite did kill his character a ton though. Mark wasn’t truly interested in investing in the character of Buu like Z sorta did, he just wanted it to be a Gohan Saga with a bit of Buu. I agree with some things you said but most of it threw me off entirely.

He removed the ssj3 and vegito because he thaught it was useless, so why he gave Videl this treatment if it did’t like it ? 3) it’s not too mature but it’s suoer unnecessary and out of Gohan’s character. Gohan saw his father dies as a kid when he fought Raditz, he didn’t got PTSD. Trained alone in brutal conditions under Piccolo while his father wasn’t there : didn’t got PTSD. Saw Piccolo and the Z team getting destroyed by Nappa : didn’t got PTSD. Saw Frezia killing innocent namekians kids : didn’t got PTSD. Saw krillin died and Piccolo almost died against Frieza : didn’t got PTSD. Thought his father was dead after Namek explosion : didn’t got PTSD. Future Gohan the whole world being destroyed by the androids : didn’t got PTSD. So Gohan having PTSD from Goku’s sacrifice while he fully understand why Goku did that is out of character. Yes, he thought he was guilty because he didn’t kill cell as he should have but that problems disappeared as Goku passed him the torch and helped him killing Cell. He didn’t got PTSD from that, he actually grew as man and learned from it.

Besides that, the rest of the fight would go the way you described. I think i'd give Videl some development in the beginning, being a support character to Gohan facing his traumas in the first arc

I kinda want to write in a way to have gohan learn the spirt bomb. Not only does this allow for us to do a simular end scene to the actual arc which i personally find really cool but it also does the full circle thing a bit better. Goku being protected to form a spirit bomb solidifys his role as protecter of earth and can allow for goku to actuaaly show of super sayin 3 so that he can hold off buu

​@@rigistronigoku and vegeta fusing into vegito is relevant to the goku black ark as without them fusing here they would not think of it there and hercules relationship with buu adds comic relief for like the entire rest of the show, and in my opinion saying gohans transformation is irrelevant and filler is strange as he uses it as a transformation basically 25% of the time he is doing something (gohan needs more cool stuff) and the return of the super spirit bomb adds a new character so that mattered even if uub isnt in the series yet but yeah super saiyan 3 adds nothing but a cool hair due in all fairness but i like it i think everyone likes super saiyan 3 if only for just the scream

This is incredible. Gohan, in my opinion, could've worked as the main character after Cell, and Toriyama gave up to soon. Not that there's anything wrong with bringing Goku back, but in doing so it took away everything that made Gohan awesome. The only complaint I have is that Videl barely played a role, when she could've been instrumental in helping Gohan move past his trauma. Maybe instead of glossing over Gohan's high school saga, maybe condense it down to the important parts up until Gohan agrees to teach her to fly. Maybe have her and Gohan talk more about their missing parents, just something more than "But what if you don't come back?" Other than that, amazing job.

So by having them present, he would have had them weaker or useless... While he has changed around the structure of the story... He didn't change the characterisations all that much aside from Buu and Gohan to make his new story structure more flexible.

I would've given Buu some more attention. His dynamic with himself and Mr. Satan was pretty bizzare to experience, and I think it would have set things up to have a more impactful ending. Instead of the fight finishing the way it did here, I would have rather had Gohan also get absorbed, but manage to remain concious through the whole thing. He would progressively free his friends and meet Buu's absorbed good half from the inside of Buu as Mr. Satan acted as a distraction on the outside, surviving through his usual antics. I'd want good Buu and Gohan to fight kid Evil Buu for the final showdown, the combat would be super interesting to watch.

I would change the following: Tien, Yamcha, Krillin and Android #18 are way more involved in the plot, being more to fight Buu, making sure they would have enough time to have Gohan, Trunks and Goten to get very stronger. Videl needs to be way more involved in the plot than she is. Have her even keep her pigtails. Android #17 would be involved in the plot and has a subtle gratitude to Krillin for taking care of his sister and niece. Also he would be stronger than Picollo but weaker than Vegeta. Gohan would undergrow a strong arc, is conflicted but not having panic attacks, he gets up looks around and goes on with his day, only Chi-Chi would notice though. Chi-Chi and Bulma would be more supporting roles than just victims of Buu's tyranny. Make us love them. Hercule needs to bond with Buu like he did in his arc. It was rather sweet and emotional. And more.

You didn't incorporate any of the most memorable elements from the Buu saga into you're plot at all, just ommited them entirely. You don't address your own criticisms of the Buu arc in this rewrite, I was really hoping for something that tied all these elements together in a way the original didn't. I think these videos needed to be a lot longer and more specific too, this is an entire 3rd of the series after all. You just glossed over a plot line that could work but don;t go into depth as to why it would work better.

Lay-Low and SMASH Randomly giving Gohan PTSD makes this fanmade arc more melodramatic than it should be and doesn’t really make sense for Gohan as a character. The fake red eyes creepypasta Goku also makes no sense and really makes the arc more edgy and melodramatic. Also the whole Buu absorption part makes no sense at all either. In the vid it was stated Buu absorbed Goku, Vegeta and Gotenks which should make Buu stronger and it should also make Gohan be unable to keep up considering he never unlocked his hidden potential (hell even if he did unlock his ult form he wouldn’t be able to keep up with a Buu that absorbed Gotenks, Goku AND Vegeta). Yet somehow the characters just randomly appear outside and unabsorbed without any explanation of how they escaped from Buu. Then they sorta just team up and defeat Buu. This whole part seems rushed and shitty which even Mark acknowledges at the end of the vid. I like the OG buu arc a lot better
