Did you know the original technique was actually spray painting with birdsong? It does something to the molecular structure.

I love the industrial look of these yet they could easily serve as a piece of decoration. Great job saving these and wow you made your own bolts!

I love them too. I think I am going to make a couple of new anvils to drop in so I can use them with modern rivets. Thanks for watching!

I just inherited one of these and it's in very very good condition. Now I'm trying to figure out if all the parts are there. I'm going to try and use it for putting grommets into kydex.

You landed here the same as me. I've watched videos with modern presses which require the correct die for snaps, rivets, eyelets. My REX doesn't seem to have the ability to attach a die.

Can this press be used with grommets? If so, what size do you recommend. The outer diameter is 3/8", and the inner is 5/16".
@HighCaliberCraftsman2 жыл бұрын
Hey Joelle. From my research these can only be used for tubular rivets. If you machined the arbor to a different shape it might be able to be used for grommets, but with the low cost of grommet machines you would probably be better off buying an import machine.

This is great! I just picked up a 27 rex for $5 and after some wire wheeling is cleaned up a lot but I need to disassemble further to finish cleaning. I was scratching my head trying to figure out how the bottom anvil could be removed! My main arm looks like it's just a rounded over pin on both sides, do you think punching it out like you did will still work? FYI I work with leather and am planning on using this on my bench ;)
@HighCaliberCraftsman2 жыл бұрын
I think it probably would. Sounds like you scored!
@jphphotography20102 жыл бұрын
@@HighCaliberCraftsman So it did in fact punch out, I've since cleaned everything up and repainted it. I replaced the pin with a 1/4" bolt with nylon washers and an acorn nut. Unfortunately when I finally tried my tubular copper leather rivets I found it really doesn't work well. I'm still hoping to modify it for use with interchangable dies and setters. Oh and I picked up another for cheap ;)

why didn't you show us how it works at the end?
@HighCaliberCraftsman2 жыл бұрын
There is a good reason for that....it sucked! LOL But seriously it did ok with the modern tubular rivets. I believe the modern rivets are sized correctly for these machines. Since then I have machined the anvil to use modern style rivets and it is way better. Thanks for watching!
@Cascadex100 Жыл бұрын
@@HighCaliberCraftsman Thanks for the video! Do you have recommended size of tubular rivet that worked okay before modifying the anvil? Were you just using a tubular rivet without a cap? I have the same press and want to try it out, but I'm not sure which rivets to order.
