I watched "The Mummy Ghost" several times in the theater as you were allowed to do in those years. I ran home and my Mother had to slept with me that night.

The Uninvited was one of my favorites as a kid. I rewatched it every time I could. I also have seen all of the Mummy movies, surprising no one lol. I think Uninvited holds up pretty well. I still need to track down a copy of the novel for my collection though. Great video Josh! Happy Friday the 13th!

I love these series and the ‘40’s is probably my favorite era of classic film. I can’t wait for the ‘60’s and ‘70’s either though.

Poor Gail Russell. I’ve heard she never really enjoyed acting in front of the camera, and to calm her nerves, a co-Star - not sure which movie -gave her a drink, which led to her becoming an alcoholic. I’ve always enjoyed her in The Uninvited, but you watch it with this sense of sadness lingering in your mind. The Uninvited is one of my favorites but I can’t help filling melancholy for Gail. How incredible that WAY too many times, alcohol and smoking were used as a way to calm the nerves. 😢

3:46: The Lodger has an impressive cast, and it's worth watching at least for seeing Laird Cregar, Cedric Hardwicke, George Sanders (playing the hero!), Merle Oberon, and Sara Allgood in action. I also always find it a treat to see a horror film set in times other than contemporary. 7:17: A bit of an unpopular opinion these days, but I find Gail Russell miscast in The Uninvited and wish the studio had cast a young British actress instead. Milland and Hussey rock, though. 16:17: Ah, cool! I was wondering what you might think of The Curse of the Cat People. It's a favorite of mine, because I like the theme of the imaginative child (Jo March and Anne Shirley being two of my favorite heroines in children's literature) and the depiction of Simone Simon's Irena in such a sympathetic light. 32:02: It's such a shame that Hollywood could never seem to figure out what to do with John Carradine. He has one of the most distinct and beautiful voices of the classic film era, but the studios kept casting him in subpar B movies; only a handful of his films -- e.g. Stagecoach, The Grapes of Wrath -- are enduring classics that really let him shine.

I didn't expect to hear a reference to WEEN in a list of 1940s horror movies

Curse of the Cat People is one of my favorite movies from any year. Not a horror movie, more of a family drama about childhood. Really beautiful and touching

Have 'em all on DVD/BD (and one still unreleased movie on a DVD-R boot), except the 2 comedies. "Bluebeard" is now on Blue-Ray from Kino. The 2 Columbia movies are part of a new box set of "Columbia Horror".

27:32 This bit is genuinely disturbing. I’m a fan of House of Frankenstein. It actually has a pretty interesting story beyond just the monster rally aspect. And Karloff is genuinely menacing in it.

I think CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE rates higher. It's so wonderfully weird and rather profound. Beautifully shot, too, I've read that some university programs for Child Psychology used to use this film as an illustration of childhood phobias.

I agree, plus three more horror movies and three high profile science fiction flicks makes Robert wise a major genre director, even if they were spaced out over a large and varied filmography.

Entertaining video with reliable reviews as usual, but what's with the stretched out, wrong aspect ratio clips from Lady and the Monster? I never tried to put together a video out of dozens of movies, but you always seemed to have it down.

Sorry. I’m Back. 😂I’m up to The Mummy, well, the swamp one. Someone has probably already beaten to me, but the passage of time was my least concern. How the heck did The Mummy get from New England to the bayous of Louisiana? I’m sure the studio has no idea the concept of TV, VHS, CD, blu-ray would exude of course, but if I’m trying to be charitable to this flick (not a big fan), the logistics throws a monkey wrench into the whole affair. Consistency be damned. 😂

Weird Woman would be somewhere in my top spots. Just too much stuff happens in 60 something minutes, Ankers gets to be catty, the hanged silhouette and all those hot chicks clamoring for that slab of beef Lon Chaney.

17:50 please Allen did not marry his daughter. Mia Farrow the true monster adopted Sun Yi and Woody Allen would not have any real contact with her until she was 20 or 21. Read up my dude about how Farrow’s adopted children were abused by her truly horrifying.

Josh are you a vampire or something? There is no way you were 7 year's old on April 15th 1944. I wasn't even born in the 40s and I'm pretty sure I'm older than you.
