Interesting how the volcanoes opening is narrowing. Always thought that the area that allows the magma to escape to the side will be blocked off making it more like the traditional looking stratovolcano. Find it hard to see the crater becoming completely blocked as the magma needs somewhere to escape. Just fascinating to view all this. Many thanks to our intrepid reporter Valur, from Kris.🇦🇺
@paulmichaelfreedman83343 жыл бұрын
It's all about pressure. The fact the magma has to rise higher to the lip means more pressure is needed (and given), which is about 4 bars per 10 meters given the density of the lava. This could also open up old vents and/or completely new ones.

@@paulmichaelfreedman8334 So, when there isn't enough gaseous explosions occurring underneath the volcano to clear all the magma, it can possibly stop erupting and release through other vents? The age of the lava coming out now, is from a much deeper source from the subduction zone deep down. The calcium rich lava, shown in white/gray I'm told is from millions-year old sea bed rich in crustaceans.
@nodisalsi3 жыл бұрын
I've read this too: that the crust of the "Iapetus Ocean" was subducted under landmasses that would join up as "Euramerica", which was then separated by the Atlantic Ocean. It's between 600Million and 400Million years old and is mixed up with mantle plume driving this issue.
