【レザークラフト】革包丁ケースの作り方 / [leather craft] Making a Japanese leather knife sheath

『レザークラフトの基本』という動画で使用した、イタリアンレザー「ペコスハード」の残りを使って、革包丁ケースを作成しました。床革を挟み込んで空間を作っているので、包丁の出し入れがしやすくてお気に入りです。こういったケースを作ると、道具に対する愛着も増しますね。あ、そろそろ包丁研がなきゃなぁ。
以前はこういったケース類はハギレを使って適当に作ってしまっていましたが、道具ケースも丁寧に作ってやると良い勉強になります。
===動画に登場するクリップについて===
こちらは洋裁用のクリップ。名称は「立ちクリップ」の他、「立体クリップ」「ワンタッチクリップ」など複数あるようです。私は楽天市場内にある安藤ミシン商会さんで購入させていただきました。サイズも複数あるようですが、動画内で私が使用しているのは「2インチ用」。75mmの厚さまで挟めるものです。使用する際は複数個あるとさらに便利だと思います。

手持ちの革包丁「秀次(39mm)」用のケース（鞘）を作りました。全く同じ包丁を2本（「漉き用」と「断裁用」）持っているので、ケースを色違いに。ホックでしっかり止まっているので、安心して道具箱に放り込めます。

Hi,Joyce! I use 3mm diamond sititching chisel in this video. The thread is Vinymo MBT #5 (polyester thread). The thickness of this thread is about 0.5～0.6mm.

Thank you for your comment. I will cut and re-shape the handle of my diamond awl near the future. I'll try to shoot the video when I color the handle. But I'm not good at woodworking, so I'm wondering if my video helps you.

For reference, the handle of this knife is coated with a mixture of "mahogany" and "walnut" water based stain. It is sanded, coated with blended stain 2 ~ 3 times, and finally coated with urethane varnish.

Thank you so much! This leather knife named "HIDETSUGU" sold by "Craft-sha". The blade width is 39mm. leathercrafttools.com/item/12965/ It's easy to use for me and very reasonably priced.

@@haku-handmadeleatherworks-5765 I have this knife and actually it is very sharp. I bought is from the maker, because leathercraft tools did not have that time. I got another knife yesterday from Leathercraft knife from Leathercraftools Skiving Knife SOURYU 36mm(Damascus blade). Looks great. Want to make a sheath a looking for a modern sheath. I have a similar sheath-like you made above.

Sir, what do you use to coat/paint the handles of your knives?

This handle was colored with stain and coated with water-based urethane varnish.😊
