Thank you GATE KEEPER, You are the man ! ! ! Keep this AMP. school going. Your experience and knowledge is greatly appreciated. Thank you for passing on what you were taught by your colleague. There are alot of us out here that would have liked to have been in your shoes learning the best of amplifier techniques and skills. It really helps us to be able to address problems with our own equipment. We all probably know that we will not utilize this information to actually make money, but just info. to get our own equipment going properly. Your guidance is and will be key to future repairs. Thanks again GATE KEEPER. Keep up the great teaching videos. Love it !

Hi, I'm not an RF person, just learning RF at the moment, so great introduction to how RF transformers and chokes are used in power amplifiers. I've just been looking at Baluns and RF chokes for the matching of the feedline to the antenna and to the radio, so fantastic learning in this session. Thank you so much 73's Bob

Indeed, I plan on covering this stuff to bud. I made a real neat 49:1 Un Un for a half wave end fed dipole that turned out insanely good made out of crappy wire, plastic box, little bit of stainless hard ware and a 61 core ferrite choke. It was a really cool impedance transformation project. RF is one huge impedance transformation GAME! - Gatekeeper

So how are you determining the transistor input and output impedance? How are you calculating the turn ratio on the transformers to match the input and output impedance of the transistors?

Bud.... one more thing...having a data sheet is a big plus when trying to figure out all of this.

If building an amp ICA sells type 61 and 67 transformers. Do they require different capacitors when u build with the two types?
@1883GotDown
@1883GotDown 11 ай бұрын
Very Possible. When you change transformers the Q of the process changes. I personally have found 61 to be the perfect medium when it comes to saturation and heating. 67 is good to use if your building for example a 6m amp.

@1883GotDown
@1883GotDown 2 жыл бұрын
Very very good question. Velocity Factor is what I am going to be making a video on soon. This is an important thing. I'll tell you this...all my coax jumpers on my bench are cut for the exact VP so my bench is perfect for tuning. It is good to have different length jumpers cut for thr different lengths of its VP. Sometimes a box may like one length better then another. In the end what counts is have you got all the SWR that your able to get out...out. that is the most important ?

Why is copper wire winding wire not used? understand the primary but why doesn't anyone use coded copper wire for the secondary windings? Does the size of the wire matter?? On the transformer?
@1883GotDown
@1883GotDown 9 ай бұрын
I think your asking why do we not use copper wire as the primary 🤔 main reason is be sure it is easier to use and manufacture them by using copper board and brass tube. Is that what you were asking?

@@jeremyshiver6055 Yep, stops the common mode. One can also try to make a "choke" from winding their coax in loops nicely packed. About 7 to 8 inch round in about 5 to 7 rotations to aid in the same. Both help with any feed back going back down the feed line and causing rf issues in the shack or radio. Ground ground ground and more ground is always a good key too

this is probably a dumb question but I am gonna ask anyway...... So what about amps where the primary and secondary transformers are not in a perfect row with each other??? like I have a texas star one pill where they don't even face each other. I have seen some bigger amps where they are in line but slightly offset. I am new to this but my guess is that they are tuned different. Thank you so much for posting this stuff man. I have wanted to understand how linear amps work for a while and it all just seemed like voodoo magic until now.
@1883GotDown
@1883GotDown Жыл бұрын
That is a good question bud...well you gotta think about it like this...that Texas star is two seperate amps.... Two 2 Transistor sections.....they can be 10 ft apart along as they are combined right. Along as the 2 transistors in each section are close to each other because the emitters share electrons with each other being a push pull configuration. If they were further apart it would effect them. It is unique how one of the wires are longer going to the splitter isn't it....but it works lol. It helps because it is straight wire....if it was coax in different lengths this could cause a problem.
