rFactor a few great mods

RFactor is, arguably, one of the very best, if not the best, platform for car racing sims. ISImotor 2.0 (gMotor) debuted in 2005 with rFactor and since then has been widely used in many different racing games and racing simulations on the PC (SimBin's, Reiza's, etc).
IRacing, NetKar Pro and a few others, although very very good sims, are not, or just don't feel, as "complete" as ISI's title.

I think Shift Street. You can't find it on rfactorcentral because it is considered illegal because the car models are converted from NFS Shift, but it looks great and the physics feel very realistic. And most importantly, it has a lot sports cars and supercars :)

You can modify the line "Steering Wheel Range=270" in your controller .ini file, which is inside Rfactor/Userdata/Yourname, to match the degrees of rotation of your wheel. Just input the degrees you prefer, I use between 380° (F1) to 900°

Thanks for the tip. About audio I have everything on max quality, and max effects which are a lot lower than what my sound card can do. I will try the brake pressure on max, though I don't see how can they be related, but thanks anyway!

This will change with new AMD PC based consoles. They will have no problems (from a technical standpoint) running the most sophisticated CURRENT racing Sim titles and beyond. Cost no object PCs are much more powerful and have excess/surplus power to render ultra high frame rates over multiple ultra high res monitors with current titles. It would be nice to see a race title that actually challenges both the computing power of the CPU and GPU of such a high end PC. Crytek meets Crammond!.

I don't know, I've never played iRacing, but nothing about rFactor *without* mods feels realistic. There are some mods out there that improve rFactor greatly.

Like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. Pay $20 for rFactor and hope and pray that someone makes a decent mod for it to make it worth playing or pay a monthly fee for a racing sim that is always advancing with it design. I like the other racing games too but that is what they are, games. rFactor2 is an improvement but it still depends on others to make it worth playing. I would gladly pay rFactor2 monthly if it had a dedicated design team but they rely on the public to make it better

Don't bother. it's a professional level sim. :P It costs a ludicrous amount of money and uses a phenomenal amount of computer horsepower. afaik it's used by F1 teams because it's the best that currently exists

GT doesn't have much of a career (just a bunch of races with low rewards) but I see what you mean. For me rFactor isn't buggy though, and it's one of the best sounding games (car wise) I've ever played. The reason we don't have a game like that (while it would be good) is because the pure simulators like GTR2 have all their time focused on being a simulator and not a game (like I said earlier, physics, tire models .etc)

yeah nogripracing dotty com or rfactorcentral dotty com are the most well known ones. You have to sign up for them but its free to do so and they don't spam you or anything so there's nothing to lose from doing so (as far as I can see). If you don't want to sign up to a site/forum, there are other sites. But its best to use one of these if you want to be part of the community.

My friend fanatic by cars also tested that mod (i went into his home and installed the game), and he also didn't liked it. Anyway he drives a BMW E30 318 1800cc. I can't seem to like this Rfactor, or LFS and some others. The only ones I actually find realistic and works well is GTR1\2; Gt Legends; WTCC. GT Legends for example uses Rfactor game engine too, but looks like it's 100 years ahead, lights are way better, sounds are way better, and the handling is WONDERFUL (BEST I EVER PLAYED)

Interesting diversion reading about it anyway. The five projector wrap around screen version with fake car chassis looks like a wet dream for teenage boys or lottery winning Simulation fans. No technical reason why they shouldn't be able to render graphics of Forza quality and give you this level of realism (if they could afford the level of expertise, which I doubt given the specialist market). Ultimately it mainly comes down to priorities, of course they are attempting to model physics 1st.

I can't really disagree. Online, iracing can't be beat, and physics wise and everything-else-wise it is quite good to say the least. But there are these nuances and subtleties in rfactor's physics department, when properly implemented and exploited. I'm thinking of what Niels Heusinkveld has achieved, the guys at Historix, DRM Revival, and so on.

Well with my creative sound card which isn't anything amazing and the Siberia V2 which I don't like much, I can definitely hear each effect kickin in. The subaru's don't sound that bad, but I still wouldn't ever say it's a subaru, since in real life the subaru as a very distinct sound very low frequency that even sounds more like some 4strk motorbike. And the one from rally we can hear the ALS kickin in every time the accelerator is off, same for the mitsubishi lancers evolutions.

I admit not all the sounds are not good, but there are some fantastic ones. I have a WRC Subaru pack and that has some decent sounds and the classic rally car "machine gun" after-fire from the exhaust. I have a 787B that sounds very similar to the original IRL and also sounds very nice. I have a good sounding skyline and supra. The stock sauber F1 sounds great and very similar to a real F1. The worst car sounds I have heard is from GT5. They are horrible.

And I don't know if it's just another bug, but in the game on idle the sound is almost mute, as soon as I accelerate, the volume increases like hell, this is really bad It's just like an effect for idle, one for rpm going higher, one for rpm going lower, and one for rpm cut (that's what their sound engine sounds like)... Even crappy games like NFS have good sounds (though doesn't mean they are realistic, but have good sound quality that you can't hear it as sound effects, but as a real car).

because it's a simulator. graphics come WAY down on the list, generally last. Also, this isn't what they use for F1 simulators. it's a better version of this engine called rFactor Pro

GTR 2 is based on the same engine as rFactor (gMotor), but it's slightly different than the current rFactor build (1.255). It feels more like a "game" to me, not as hardcore as rFactor. Regardless, it's aged well and I still play GTR 2, esp P&G mod. Assetto Corsa is very well made, and it is current-gen, unlike rFactor and Gtr 2. But, inmho, it still lacks a bit of definition in the physics department and FFB, but not much. It's in the same league as rFactor 2, and Iracing ntmv5, even when each of these have their own ways to approach simulation.

Iracing doesnt use ISI's rfactor engine.

For the handbrake, try going into the garage when you are at a track and increasing the brake pressure. Not sure about everything else though :L Try checking your audio settings.

Nope, the game comes with only a small pack of cars & tracks, you can check their site @ rfactor.net But there's a handful of top-notch mods, tracks, add-ons that simply make this game so outstanding.

It is very confusing... I tried 2 or 3 rally+WRC mods and the cars don't even handle any good Only liked the Subaru's mod, but pressing handbrake doesn't really lock much of the wheels, needed the car handles really like a rally car I liked Project D, but even some times gets hard since hand-brake doesn't even work the way it's supposed to (most of the times it just doesn't lock wheel and go with a lot of oversteer. I don't think oversteer would ever, ever happen in real life with a drift car)

When I idle the sounds are fine :L And for me the sounds sound as if the car is actually doing it and not just fixed templates like you said. Most of the NFS games I don't really like the sound tbh. I know forza 4 has some epic sounds for cars like the 2JZ and RB26DETT

No reason it shouldn't have both now in 2013. Certainly visual realism improves immersion. Quality graphics should not detract from realism. It still looks decent but rather flat without real time lighting and shading, smoke, blur or dust effects etc. Also if you are after realism then you would realise the view from a real racing car is not this clean, open or clear. A modern multi core processor should handle the physics, game logic etc. With a good GPU no concession in graphics required.

GT/Forza aren't sims, they are arcade with sim elements. I think you mean they need to make better graphics. This is a PC race sim, graphics don't matter so much, here it is all about physics, tire models and things like that.

well those games would only be maybe better if they were made for PC not just ported to PC. Sims made for PC can use much more realistic and complex simulation models of the tires and physics than any racing game on a console can do.
