An inside view and an ultimate cab ride in Indian Railways Air Condition fitted Dual cab EMD locomotive [GT46PACe] hauling the Indians one of the premier train the Rajdhani Express.
Enjoy the EMD Loco Ride at full MPS of 110 KMPH.
===================================================
About EMD Locomotives
-----------------------------------------
The EMD GT46PAC is a passenger-hauling diesel-electric locomotive with AC electric transmission designed by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and built by both GM-EMD and under license by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) of Varanasi, India for Indian Railways as their classes WDP-4, WDP-4B and WDP-4D. The GT46PAC is a passenger version of the previous Indian Railways EMD GT46MAC freight locomotive. The locomotive has a 16 cylinder 710G3B diesel engine with a maximum speed of 904 RPM.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The WDP4D Locomotive:-
Newer editions with 4500 hp have been produced which have been named with the sub class WDP-4B /WDP-4D which have different traction control with six traction motors and are Co-Co bogie equipped (more similar to WDG-4), unlike the original which has a Bo-1-1-Bo arrangement with four traction motors. Due to some visibility hindrances faced by loco pilots in driving long hood front, the basic WDP-4B model has been modified to dual cab to eliminate any such possibility. The other features of the WDP-4B and the WDP-4D are the same. The newer cabs have slightly wider profiles to improve visibility & LCD instrument display.

They can't see what's in front of them while they are sitting. They get their instructions through receiver and signals.

No its not easy. If the driver does not respond for 1min like change in throttle , brake or honk a warning signal from the aws will come on. If he does not acknowledge or press any button for next 30sec a beep will come on and if he does not acknowledge or do any changes to throttle , brake or honk the train will automatically apply emergency brake and throttle down to neutral. And record this in the onboard computer . The driver had to bring the train to a complete stop and reset the brakes and then restart the whole system.

Big salute to drivers who run trains so fast. We enjoy sound sleep during night journey but driver of train has to keep his hawk eyes on signal lights with full concentration.

My father and uncles worked at Railways. Even my grandfather. Here are few myths that people get wrong! 1. Drivers don't have steering to move to a different track. There is something called RRI cabins and interlocking mechanisms that cabin masters and section masters set for each section. All tracks are divided into sections. 2. No they don't honk continuously to be awake. Did you see "W/L" boards all across?? on the right side? that is called whistle long. 3. There are also symbols like T/G, T/P to give a signal to the driver like the entire train has passed the bridge, the train has crossed a specific point. 4. Driver and Guard are in continuous touch. The driver makes a mistake that's it, the guard takes note of it. 5. Assistant Driver communicates with Driver and takes confirmation on signals. If the Driver fails to respond or confirm, Assistant should take over. Probably, Sr.Driver is having a problem. So many more facts in the Indian Railways. IT is a huge well-oiled department of India, should have been modernized to bullet trains.

Bullet Trains are amazing, but not suited for Indian "market." They have much lower carrying capacity, which is the biggest upside of trains and also why Indian railways are praised so much. High Speed trains are a different case. The next logical step for us should be getting a vast network of HSR. Wih similar capacity and better speeds, they're much better than Bullet trains, and can go upwards to speeds of 275 (which will be a massive leap). There are plans to add a decently large network of HSR as early as 2025, but let's see how it pans out. Bullet Train may be implemented, in future (after having a decent HSR chain), but mostly only for certain trips (Delhi - Mumbai, Mumbai BLR, Delhi - Agra, etc/Neigboring State capitals).

Awesome video. using of horn is required when Rajdhani @ speed of 110kmph is running to alert people not to come near the track. However honking is of many types in IR not to just clear the route, it is also advised not to use too much horn. Lekim agar train chalte wakt engine ki city sunayi na de. safar me maza nahi ata.

RFb, your description on the specs of the EMD was good. I had occassion to speak to some Pilots who all expressed that in reverse direction, visibility was bad and their protests were ignored for a long time. when they designed the dual control cabins, why were the front view so curtailed and the vipers on only part of glass? How could our authorities approve such deficient design. sad but true. v only have to pity the hapless pilots and the hapless passengers who are blissfully ignorant of what is hauling them!!

Very nice and elaborate video. Few things noticed. A) DMS or forward movement handle need to be brought in front of driver. It is at present sideways which will give him trouble and may have back ache problem in long run. B) For quite a long time drive has to hold DMS by two hands. I think this is different than Electric EMU. C) Lots of dirt accumulating in the front glass. There has to be a water spray as like cars. Dust also shows how dirty our environment. Video seems to be from North India rural area. Situation in cities may be worst. D) Cabin and ofcourse engine shakes a lot at 100 to 111. Indian Railways planning to increase the speed at 160 KMPH. Situation will be worst then. E) Cabin should be made sound proof. Driver will get annoyed at longer period.

Great, really enjoyed this video; noisy bugger, but I guess the engineer needed to ride on the horn as much as he needed. A lot of swaying but that is why Indian rails make it exciting.

why would Indian train drivers keep honking even in empty stretches of tracks ?
@dipanshurathore

Indian rail tracks are not fenced. Given high population density and continuous human settlements (read: villages) every 3-5 kilometers, lack of proper trails to travel within jungles and general apathy towards public safety, track trespassers are found in abundance. Shepherds graze their cattle, sheep, camels, goats on open pastures in the countryside, sometimes travelling 100s of sq. kms. in single day in search of cattle-feedable vegetation and water. Locomotive drivers constantly honk to avoid accidents involving humans and cattle.

I see that you use the same signalling system as we do here in the UK. Are your locos G.E or G.M? I also notice that you don't seem to haver any type of vigilance device or AWS like we in Britain have.
@cyberinsomnia3573
@cyberinsomnia3573 8 жыл бұрын
Andy Hinds this is a diesel engined locomotive clearly, you can see that there is no overhead electrification. Some tracks in India are unelectrified so only Diesel locomotives are used in those stretches. Otherwise It's electric powered.
@andyhinds542
@andyhinds542 8 жыл бұрын
I never said there was any overhead electrification and I can see that it is a diesel locomotive as I drive them myself. I was referring to in - cab safety devices such as Automatic Warning System or a vigilance device such as a 'deadman's pedal'.
