paysage is a rare examples where atmospheric black metal can actually be sick, and not stereotypically boring and lame like WITTR because tobias has gnarly riffs for days and something sinister usually reveals itself beneath all that snow; he’s a true master for sure.
@patrickbertlein4626Ай бұрын
haha man I'm from the area know Wolves since the early days and they are NOT a good example of Black metal, to say the slightest! Most BM fans would only questionably even consider them part of the genre.
@zigotinaАй бұрын
wolves are good it's just the hipsters hyped them
@patrickbertlein4626Ай бұрын
@@zigotina I don't mind them nor would I say they don't fit under the genre term, but they are not the best example or band to base ones view of the sound. I would say someone should listen to Emperor, Summoning, Drudkh,Sargeist, Blasphemy, and Arcturus, than they should comment. Not even necessarily my favorites or anything just all give a good idea of the different sounds to be found in the genre.

Oh trust me man they have said plenty To get people to not like them😂 some of their interviews are just cringey. But musically they aren’t THAT bad pretty standard stuff really.

Probably the best “atmospheric” black metal project ever! Immense discography with so many classic gems. You are totally spot on with comparing that “slam” section on Moloch with something from The Ruins of Beverast, it always reminded me of the part in 6:51 of Arcane Pharmakon Messiah. You should do a Ruins of Beverast episode soon!
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337Ай бұрын
That Ruins riff is so sick, one of my all-time favorites. There's another really groove riff from them on their first album about five minutes into Clockhand's Groaning Circles. I actually did do a Ruins of Beverast episode a LONG time ago, I think like five years back, but it was part of a combo with Nagelfar. They could probably use their own episode at some point.

15:23 Good to hear the observation that black metal's crossover with electronic music doesn't just end with dungeon synth. Definitely reccomend looking into the Wergild bands (Fugitive Wizard, Iron Firmamment, etc) for anyone interested in hearing raw black metal mixed with that 70s German electronic stuff. Anyways, enjoyed the analysis here! PdH has made studying for finals on these snowy nights much more bearable.

pay-shaz dee-βεγ Was introduced to them back in 2004 too, when an old friend from the Netherlands sent me the beautiful 'Schee' song from the split with Vinterriket, on MSN Messenger 7 - those were the times. Amazing atmospheric music, like early Burzum you turn off the lights and just travel to wherever your imagination can take you. At the time the music was only available on limited circulation and various formats our teenage wallets could not afford. Years later (2009?) I saw the whole tape collection on eBay for a few hundred euros, still couldn't afford it. Thankfully, he decided to re-release everything again over the last few years, so I've managed to collect the LPs and the latest one that's getting released in a couple of days is in the mail. Good episode.

Oh snap! Stoked to finally see you cover Paysage. Really cool observation that I never picked up on was his incorporation of doomy parts in his riffs. Almost reminds me a little bit of early material from Ruins of Beverast (especially Unlock the Shrine.)
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337Ай бұрын
There's definitely a big overlap with Ruins of Beverast. They're almost kind of a weird sub-style of really doom-inflected atmospheric black metal along with Nocternity and some of the Nagelfar stuff. I feel like Lunar Aurora was a pretty big instigator for that kind of thing with Ars Moriendi.
@tylercraig5633Ай бұрын
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 I can’t recall but have you ever done a proper episode on Ruins of Beverast?
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337Ай бұрын
I did one like five years ago for episode 90 but it was combined with Nagelfar. He could probably use his own episode at some point. For a decent chunk of time (like 2009ish to around 2013ish) that was my favorite active black metal project, especially on the first, third, and fourth albums. I wasn't as huge on Exuvia and Thule Grimoires (though I do have an Exuvia sticker on my guitar) compared to something like Blood Vaults, but I probably should give those two more of a chance.
