I used to be a chevy tech. Warranty covers defects in gm's materials and workmanship. In order to deny a warranty we have to prove that the modifications directly caused the issue at hand. I can certainly tell you that the tires, wheels, exhaust, will not cause a lifter issue. Go through chevy customer service and have them set up the repairs. The problem is the dealership you took it too is worried about bouncing the claim.

Ford dealers are the same, but it's only if you get a good one, some are like this and won't cover anything if you so much as change emblems on it... but it's all covered under warranty, unless it can be proven. Exhaust is unlikely, especially if it's an axle back.
@TheWolfMatt
@TheWolfMatt 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly correct. Some dealers just don't want the headache from dealing with anything modified (even in the slightest) due to a bad wrap on certain mods customers do to their vehicles. I do think that, if his ZR2 is going to stay for the long haul, that he sends it over to LMR for a nice heads/cam package with a trans mod for him to take care of the 6.2L valve and lifter issue permanently and pick up more power. But that's worst case scenario in that GM won't cover his repairs from a factory perspective. Having a nice choppy ZR2 on the channel would probably get more views to say the least. Besides, LMR does cover their work done to the vehicles they upgrade.

Prove to who the customer, that is for a court. In his own video he said there was a little stumble when he test drove it but no dyeing or miss firing, he said a little stumble. Which by the way it looks bad why would somebody modify a improperly running vehicle, you would have it fixed first. His problems did not surface until he modified it, proof is in the pudding! He could put the OEM exhaust back on and see if the problem persists, then maybe yes. Next question will be was the break in procedure followed if not than another strike.
@CaptainRudy4021
@CaptainRudy4021 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewgillies6936 a modified exhaust won't cause your lifters to go bad. All it does is make the truck louder. Even if you were right, the dealership has to definitively prove that the exhaust caused the lifter issue before they deny the warranty claim. It's the law. If they don't, then Bobby has the ability to sue them. Considering bad lifters is a known issue with the 6.2L V8, the exhaust had nothing to do with it. As for why he modified it before he got it fixed, two reasons: 1. He was told the problem would go away on its own, so he thought the truck was fine. 2. Us gearheads can't leave anything alone. If we own it, it's getting modified. No ifs ands or buts about it. If we're not modifying our vehicles, we're thinking about what mods we wanna do next.

It’s not the dealer. I had an issue with my Colorado ZR2 Bison. The dealer said the warranty was void because I drove it in mud (!!??!). It was on a public road, I wasn’t even off roading. I contacted GM and they were dreadful. They didn’t get back to me at all, despite chasing and chasing. Eventually they told me that they wouldn’t honor the warranty but refused to directly say why, or put their answer in writing. It is clearly their policy to delay and be as awkward as possible, on the principle that most customers will eventually give up. I explained the circumstances to my local Ford dealer who said that Ford would 100% definitely cover a car in the same circumstances. I sold the ZR2 and bought a Bronco.

I think they might be nervous about taking care of the repair since it'll most likely find its way to YT for all of us to view. We all know the lifter issue with the 6.2L, no stranger to it myself, modified or fully stock, this should be a "non issue" by GM to take care of.

Time to lawyer up. By law they have to prove the modifications directly caused the problem. In this case you have your videos describing the problem right after you got it so there can be no doubt nothing you did caused it. I can understand the ABS wire issue with the Colorado. While the damage occurred due to a bad design, they couldn't prove it was from the part actually being damaged, not a defective part. Driving through brush like you did isn't exactly something that normally occurs while off-roading. I still think the argument that it could just as easily have happened on a construction sight or whatever because they designed it with the wire hanging down in harms way but at least they have some argument for it. With the Silverado there's no way anything you've done could have damaged the lifters even if you didn't have evidence it's been a problem since day one. By admitting there is a problem and saying they won't repair it under warranty they are violating federal law.

So true! A salesman is not a mechanic and usually has no idea how cars work. They will blame ANY issue on break in. There is no such thing as break in period any more, with the exception of suspension alignment during the first 500 miles of the car. While going to another dealer is not a bad option, usually if one dealer declined the repair, they'll put it online, so that all dealerships are aware. Your better option is to ask the dealer which declined it, or the second dealership to escalate it and get their dealer Rep involve, or call the customer assistance people and ask them to provide help and get the Dealer Rep involved

I went to pick it up and the service manager says to me "Looks like while you were out there, you bashed your transmission pan on something. It was cracked and leaking. We replaced that one for you too under warranty." This thing was lifted, on 35s, aftermarket bumpers, winch, lights, radio, etc. tree scratches all down the sides of it, sliders all used hard underneath. The dash is cracked. I dealt with a water leaking in the cab issue (just age). I had a 96 gmc previous and loved that truck. That truck was why I bought the 08. Its defiantly decision time... sell now or sink some money (trans and at some point motor). I can't base it on MPG alone as the difference in what I get (14.5) verses new mileage is maybe 600 bucks a year? Just hate that a day ride with my dirt bike in the back is currently close 100 bucks or has been this summer at my favorite spot including gas for my dirt bike bike or park entry. First off, the ONLY thing adding exhaust could void warranty wise, would be emissions related. Second, sounds like that specific dealership just doesn't want to take on the warranty work. They'd rather hope you accept what they say forcing you to pay out of pocket, which benefits them in a big way. I'm very happy you contacted Chevy directly! They know this is a known issue, and considering the miles as well as the fact that you mentioned this issue in the very first vid posted with the truck, there's absolutely no reason for them to deny you. I had an 09 G8 GT, which was known to have issues with the DOD. Older version of what you're dealing with. I was getting lifter noises and the local Pontiac dealer replaced the bad lifters. They didn't wait till the motor blew up. Only thing I didn't like, was that they only replaced the bad lifters instead of doing them all. Nonetheless, it was fixed under warranty. Keep us posted on what Chevy says and good luck brotha

My truck at 2 miles on the odometer when I bought it new from the dealership, and I didn't have a single issue. First WOT was done at about 270 miles on the odometer. REVISIONS: Uhh....sounds like you need a reprogram of the ECM, not a engine issue. If there was a engine issue, and the lifters (for the DFM) failed, it wouldn't sound like that. That 'power loss' you're getting, sounds controlled, not mechanical. I think you should rethink your issue, and maybe see if there's something else causing your problem too like possible bad fuel, but sounds like PCM is controlling the issue.
