It would be great to have more systems like PlayStation or Amiga/Atari. BIOS files could be included at put to the right folders, so everything will work out-of-the-box ;) Plus, adding boxart to the existing rom titles. Even a version for the RG350M is thinkable.

Seems like sticking with the original RG is the way to go. Good stuff is and will be happening with it....like with this update, HDMI will still be active. I think the constant "upgraded" versions are just profit moves. Love my OG RG.

The link under "Sources" worked fine for me. Although the download is only 19GB, it expands and unzips to around 59GB and leaves around 30GB free. It fitted onto a 64GB Sandisk fine. I didn't really go that much for the menus though. There isn't any box art. It seems to be accessing the original game list (but I could be wrong). The MAME games don't seem to work. When selecting an FBA game, it just goes to the list as per the original firmware (with small but nice box art) - you then still have to scroll down to the game that you want. It is okay but would need quite a bit of work to make it work like you want (like for example pre-made RetroPie downloads which are often brilliant). I was hoping for a bit more really and have just gone back to my original 16GB SD card. I don't really want to use up a good 64GB card for this. Of course we do appreciate that these images are made available (thankyou for all the work).

Hi ya, Great video & thank you.. Have a slight issue though and hope someone could help.. When i do the win32 disk imager, it report complete however my 128gb micro sd is left with a partition "with" a drive letter and some files (399mb's) and a partition "without" drive letter that windows immediatly requires formatting... "not a recognised file system" but if i then open up Disk Genius, it shows the micro sd partions the same as in your video (populated with files @4:42), different drive letters due to a different system setup.. but recognised.. If this is infact all correct, how do i transfer my own roms onto it if windows will not recognise the EXT4 file system? Thanks for any help or advise in advance

update, if i install the micro sd card after following your steps with the above "issue?" and boot up my RG350, i get the RG350 logo for 30secs, then the screen goes white saying emulation station loading, for 2 seconds followed by a blank screen...

Got it to work, Disk Genius breaks it =( if you dont try to extend the partition it works, as soon as you increase the partition size to allow more room for added roms/box art etc.. it doesnt load

I just created a card via your instructions, works great on my rg350! I tried it in both of my rg280vs though, both just show a black screen when you press the power button. Nothing ever happens. (the title of the video reads '350/280v' so I thought this would work on both, no?).

Hi my friend, first YES the image is for the internal sd card. And YES, you can use symlinks to the external card from your internal card to make use of it‘s storage capacity as well.

Hi dude, unfortunately, this is still the old version. There is no newer version of EmulationStation available. I guess this project is dead. If you like to use a more healthy frontend, i can suggest SimpleMenu to you. It‘s still under further development.

I have EmulationStation setup on my RG280V and I figured I'd install it since I'm familiar with the PC version, but after tooling around a bit none of the themes were really fitting the vibe I wanted with the small screen, and most of the ones that looked nice online were for newer versions of EmulationStation. I'll check out SimpleMenu next - thanks again! Your videos have been HUGELY helpful to me with my new RG280V, seriously couldn't have set this up without you haha!

I can also recommend BalenaEtcher since it also verifies the write process. Maybe give it a try. Best, use a solid sd card brand. Hi dude, it depends on the emulator that is running or if you are in RetroArch. Try the following key combos: Press both Analog sticks. Press Start + x Press both Shoulder buttons (L1 and R1) Either one should work ;)

Hello and thank you for the great work done. First time I selected Mame it didn't found the rom folder I had to select it by myself. Now, when I select a game for mame I end up with a second list of roms where I need to select a second time the rom. NeoGeo give me the same list as mame and complain about a missing lib at the end of the game loading... Any idea how to solve that ? I a bit surprise of this bug as it is a whole pre-configured image, how comes I get an error from the start with the vanilla untouched version of your image ?

Unfortunately, the Arcade emulators don‘t allow to pass a Rom directly, so you get into an extra menu to choose your game. Just add some Roms for them and assign the Rom directory in the Emulator menu should work fine.

@@haydar_kir MAME doesn't work until you manually configure the MAME emulator to point at the right ROM path. I set mine to /media/data/roms/mame and it started working. I was hoping this image would be a plug and play image but it really is not. I don't know if that's down to hardware differences, that MashTec had a different config (maybe his secondary SD card was being used?), etc. but -- unfortunately -- for me, this image is only partially working. Despite that, I do appreciate MashTec and his efforts to help the community with this. I've made custom Linux distros in the distant past so I know how difficult getting this all right is and the hardware / firmware manufacturers do not make this easy.

Thank you for your feedback dude. What systems you mean in particular? Almost every emulator has display settings where you can change resolution and screen size. Unfortunately not all emulators support this feature. You need to check system by system, there is no global setting for this since these are all independent emulators.

Thanks for your great work Mashtech ! BUT.. I've tried this image and there 's a real problem with Mame/FBA and EmulationStation. Emulation Station launch Emulators with UX interfaces, so when you launch a game, you just open FBA UX and result with a big list.. There's other versions of theses apps wich allow you to open directly the Roms, and when close, came back to EmulationStation.. I think you have to change the emulators.. Another question, does this image contain the update for HDMI output ? (Sorry for bad english)

Good points dude! I thought about exactly the same ;) 1. Yes, need to collect the emulators that allow direct passing of a rom and add/replace them for emulation station. 2. The firmware has the HDMI patch applied already. Just exit EmulationStation, so you return to the OpendinguX menu, and switch over to the settings. Here you can enable HDMI out. I would like to change a lot more here for the image: * should be smaller e.g. 4 or 8 GB (so easier to download and able to apply to smaller sd cards as well. It can still be expanded to bigger cards) * mabe a version with simple menu is also thinkable * add more systems to ES * add more open/free ported games * add BIOS files for all required systems (if missing) * make a version with Rogue as bade FW * add more themes * complete list of emulators Boxart is a problem that can‘t be solved for everyone, so it might not come with it. I think the image should be prepared to just add further roms to existing or new systems, without having to touch any setting files. That would be my goal for this

​@@MashTecI thing 32Gb card would be perfect because they cost nothing today. - For FBA and Shmup vertical games , there's also Two version : one good for compatibility, and one for speed (0.2.97.35 vs 0.2.97.44) if i Remember good. - Xmame is also Better for Speed emulation (but he can't allow passthrought i think... You can find the Xmame 2 version here ! (SDL.69) : gofile.io/d/KpW06Q - If you choose the Rogue Firmware, you loose the HDMI ouput.. :-/ - An image with all the boxarts would be perfect ! And with simple menu ! :) Mine is already perfectly setup but i have 2 sd cards.. So you're solution is perfect. Yes, you are right Connor, they use the same architecture, so theoretically, it should work ;) i just don‘t have a device to test it. Actually, there is no risk to test it as long as you use a different sd card. Keep the original one as backup, if you like to give it a try ;)

Hi dude, version 5.0 is the latest and i guess there is no newer version planned. So this is the best to go. I‘m not sure if it will work on a RG280V. I don‘t have the device to test it.

You can change the font and font size for example in the settings file of the theme. You can play around with different options if you like. I recommend you to backup the file before you do it, so you can switch back if you make it worse :)

Woran könnte es liegen, dass beim starten des RG350 kein HDMI übertragen wird im "ES" und eine leichte unschärfe ist im "ES" Menü? Sobald man ES manuell beendet und ins RG350 Betriebssystem geht und dann manuell "ES" startet wird HDMI erkannt. Es bleibt aber eine unschärfe im "ES" Menü egal welches Theme. Desweiteren funktioniert das HDMI Signal nur auf einem Prolite B2409HDS Monitor und nicht auf einem AOC CQ32G1. Auch auf einem Fernseher (Phillips 6007k) ist keine HDMI Ausgabe.Verschiedene HDMI Kabel Modelle wurden verwendet.

Hallo mein Freund :) Das "Problem" ist dass EmulationStation direkt nach dem Start geladen wird ohne das Menü zu starten. HDMI wird aber erst über das Menü aktiviert. Dadurch funktioniert es zu beginn nicht. Die Unschärfe im ES Menü dadurch dass die Auflösung des ES Menü nicht genau zu der des RG350 passt. Das finde ich aber nicht all zu störend.

@@MashTec Danke für die Antwort. Also ist es vollkommen normal, dass es eine Unschärfe im "ES" Menü ist. Das mit dem RG350 Betriebssystem starten und danach wird erst das HDMI Signal erkannt klingt logisch. Irgendwelche Ideen warum aber das HDMI Signal nicht am Fernseher wiedergeben wird bzw. auf dem anderen Monitor? Welche HDMI Treiber Version wurde verwendet(1.0Beta, 1.1Beta)? Wurden die einzelnen Emulatoren der Konsolen auf den neusten Stand installiert oder wurden die stabilsten verwendet?

Hi Florian, leider hatte ich das image nicht selbst zusammengestellt. Ein Mitglied aus der RG350 Community hat es freundlich Weise zur Verfügung gestellt und ich wollte mit dem Video zeigen wie man es installiert ;) Daher kenne ich die interna des image selbst nicht, setze mich aber die Tage mal damit näher auseinander. Mir ist auch schon aufgefallen dass hier noch viel verbessert werden kann :) Außerdem bin ich mit dem Ersteller des Image in Kontakt. Mal sehen ob es bald eine ge-updatete Version des Image geben wird. Ich finde es auch zu groß. Sollte kleiner sein.

@@MashTec Der Image-Ersteller hat schon gute Arbeit geleistet und vieles für den einzelnen Nutzer bei der Installation erleichtert. Im Großen und Ganzen funktioniert ja vieles sehr gut nur manches ist halt noch ausbaufähig. Das liegt ja nicht am Image-Ersteller sondern eher am Betriebssystem vom Entwickler.Danke für die Hilfe und für die gelungene Anleitung. Wollen wir hoffen, dass es bald eine überarbeitete Version geben wird. Ich geh dann mal weiter an die Probleme und an die Einnrichtung des Scrappers :D

Hey dude, it‘s confirmed to be running on the RG350P as well 👍🏻 You can still use the external sd card slot for more roms. Therefor you just need to adapt the path to the roms on it in your es_systems.cfg file. I used the internal card for systems up to 4th generation systems. I put the PSx roms to my external sd ;)

Hey my friend, this image will not work with the RG350M since it uses a different firmware (due to different hardware). Maybe another image will come for the RG350M ;) You are right with apps. Apps can be applied and installed to both systems, but still they run different firmwares.

Hey dude, you can use the SD card in your PC to copy games/roms to it. But i really recommend you to use the USB C cable to transfer data. I have a guide for it, but it‘s on german. I hope you can understands the steps that need to be done: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pV7NXqVuaLBlbc0 I hope that helps.

@@MashTec Thanks - I figured out how to attach to the network and upload roms, but emulation station is not reading any of the roms that I've uploaded to the system. For example, I have uploaded pcengine roms to folder /media/data/roms/pcengine. When I reboot the RG350, there is no category in emulation station for pcengine. How do I get the system to show and for the system to read the roms in the appropriate folders?

Hey dude, sorry dude i have bo experience with that. You can try to mount the image on your PC, remove stuff from it (maybe some roms), reduce the partition size and create a new image out of it. Good luck!

@@MashTec Thanks for the answer :-) . . .i have been working about 18 hr's to get that working,,,, (think my wife hate me right now :o)) i have written af hole new "script" with the one you have made as a template, i have cheked, i have double checked, and then one more time to get sure everything is correct,,, but it will not work,,,, but for 20 min ago i find out it is the gamelist from skraper that was the problem,,,, i had get rid of the é and á in the gamelist, but i did that yesterday so i was thinking it should be ok,,,, i removed the gamelist, and wupti all is ok,,, strange..... --------UPDATE------ Now it is working with pictures, just made a new skrapeing and removed all the ´from the letters,,, again, but now it is working,,,,,....

Hey dude, if you like to use it with EmulationStation you have to go with mame-4all or xmame. You can find recent versions here: github.com/SeongGino/RetroGame350-AppRepo There is also a version out there that allows to pass a rom and start into the game directly. This is better for EmulationStation and SimpleMenu. Enjoy!

Hi there, well I've been using a SanDisk 128g SD card and it's not working. I've flashed it twice and same result. It flashes emulation station for a second and then freezes with a very faint green light. After this it won't reset at all unless I remove the SD card. I think I will try with a fresh, new 64g one instead. Anyone any ideas? I didn't stretch the partition. Could that be it?

Hey dude, sorry to hear about the trouble you face. Stretching the image should not be a problem. The fact that is runs for you the first time makes me think it‘s not a problem of the sd card. Maybe some sectors of the card are broken, so maybe a fresh sd card will help. Fingers crossed!
