This video gave me the answer to a question I commented on another of your videos Q: How to get ports to show? A: Go to game selection settings then systems displayed and make sure ports is selected, I also was able to switch on a few other things like ScumVM and Pico8. I use bilinear filtering ("smooth games" in the EmuELEC options) for all non-mobile consoles. That looks better then the non-filtered stretched pixels. You can set this in the "Game Settings"/"Per System Advanced Configuration" in EmuELEC. For all mobile consoles I recommended "integer scale" and "smooth games" off.

There is also a "per game settings" when you press select on the marked game. And I recommened to use the "snes9x2010" core for SNES SuperFX games. They run much better with it.

Another great video. You are upfront and show FPS, turn up sound, and mention when frame skip is enabled. I've noticed that other KZbinrs blatantly hide this info and/or selectively edit out rough spots when FPS dips. These "reviewers" keep showing 2D games or "light weight" 3D games but ignore games that don't run well. For example, your video of Jax & Daxter / Ratchet & Clank (both on PSP) showed genuine "iffy" gameplay - I've seen others claim that these run "OK" on the RG351P, RK2020, OGA2, or RP2 when they are actually unplayable (look OK with 1 or 2 frame skip, but don't control well)..

Did you add nintendo ds bios file ? If not then performance will get improved by that. If you go to main menu -> game options -> missing bios it will show you if any bios files for any system are missing. For me it improved DS emulation as well as PS1 which now doesnt drop even a frame on toughest games. Btw were you able to navigate through drastic menu with arrows and buttons? I could not get it to work, only with external keyboard. Anyway great content and I already subscribed ;)

I got the 351m. Its a blast. I even got shining force on the saturn to run great. All ps1 games run at 100%. You can even apply shaders what makes them look even better. Besides from playing around with the settings and resolution i think the shaders do wonders. Esp. For everything below dreamcast. Some just make the pixels disappear what makes feel line you play in on an old tv. Super authentic.

One thing no one has mentioned is GBA runs like.. PERFECT, like it's almost like the screen is exactly 2x resolution from GBA. GBA runs so well it may be running on a cloned hardware. Because of this, the screen resolution is just super awkward for any other games, unless you go for an integer scale + core provided aspect ratio (which looks super small).

Haha, yeah I've been hearing that a lot. I just have a lousy setup right now -- I'm using an iPad propped up by my son's DUPLOs, and here in Hawaii the humidity fogs up the lens all the time. I really wasn't anticipating making so many videos with this setup, but here we are!

Robotron also is one of the few N64 games that runs well on my EmuELEC box. Another good N64 game is Space Invaders. It would be cool to make a list of N64 games that run well on lower-powered machines.

@Retro Game Corps I just bought my rg351p yesterday and I tried mapping the buttons like you did but something went terribly wrong. The "b" button (back button) doesn't work anymore when in the ark menu (L3+R3). The "b" button works anywhere else just not when I go in to the L3+R3 menu. The "a" button, to select somthing, works in that menu, but not the "b" button. Any suggestions on how to fix this maybe a factory reset? Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, I would go into the OPTIONS section in the main ArkOS interface and select "Restore Settings", that should reset the RetroArch button mapping.

I need help please with WIFI. Should I buy a dongle. Do I just plug the one you suggested in and play? I was sent a dongle that I didn’t know what was until it got here. I downloaded the software for it on the internet and I put everything in the way I was supposed to but when I went to put the up address in I saw an ipv6 like address and it started with 4e80: and continued like that and then I didn’t see it again on my dongle and it never worked on the program I downloaded from your personal video or guide. On my program it asked me to click login or save which on your program it popped up with different commands and with that said I have windows 10. I pressed login and save and even tried to login the IP address with root and emuelec with all the different ways I could have done it including scp, etc. but, it never did work. I am not a computer expert and when I was young we stuck games in a console and it worked. Is there anyway you can help me? Do I need to buy a new dongle?

I got one of these yesterday, came with an external OTG USB WiFI adapter. It still makes the same crackly noise when downloading.. they may as well of left it built in as removing it fixed nothing.

I bought one of these on a sale basically as an alternative to a modded GBA that I had been considering. I think I'll probably wind up annoyed by the screen for other emulators just like you are here, but I am hoping the proper GBA resolution makes me feel justified in the purchase. I might consider a different device down the line to emulate other systems.

@@Awnos in terms of running the actual GBA games. totally great. If you want it specifically for GBA, having the screen be the correct ratio feels great. I ultimately have 3 problems with the device: 1. The lack of grips made any long session hurt. I fixed this by getting a 3D printed handle though. So it is all good. 2. The battery drain while off seems to be abysmal. It charges fine, and you can play all day on it, but if you let it go a few days, it will still lose most of the charge. This might be a battery issue that I could fix with a new battery but I don't know. I'm used to modern electronics holding a charge for longer than this one can when the device is totally off. 3. The screen gets burn in ghosting almost instantly. It is never permanent, and it is usually pretty easy to ignore. There's also an option to use the screen saver as a way to flush any ghosting. But I'd play some FFV and see hints of the combat menu a lot while walking around. Other than that, I like it and mess around with it a good bit still. I did forget just how bad GBA games sound though lol. No fault of this device in that regard.

@@Awnos They aren't my favorite type of buttons. I prefer the feel of the dual shock 4 that have pretty low travel. These are a bit taller, but still feel good. I'm not a huge fan of the dpad, but it is also adequate. I feel like this is more of a personal thing so I don't know if you'd like how they feel more than I do, but I am neither amazed nor irritated by the buttons on this thing in general. All I can say is that I like pressing these buttons a lot more when I have the 3D printed Grip on the device.

I have an OTG adapter that shipped with my Retroid Pocket 2, which is what I used in this video. But I personally bought the Anker OTG adapter (amzn.to/2QApcxL) and I love it. Note that you'll also need to get a USB wifi adapter, 2.4GHz. I haven't tested any of those myself yet, though.

Any updates on the Wifi? I want both a home console that can use PS3/4 controllers (blutooth), but also be portable and be able to play Dreamcast. The option to play Powerstone and 4player Goldeneye/Smash Bros, but also Resident Evil 2 in my car. Also thinking about a bigger screen that the GPD XD has...if I can get it for under $140. It also can play games like Melee on Gamecube. The Odroid Super similarly has a big screen, but caps out on DC like the rest and sits at $200+, so no bueno. I think the Retroid 2 honestly is my answer if I can't get the GPD XD cheap enough. It has Wifi and is shown to connect to TV using a mini HDMI or something and can work with wireless controllers like PS3/4 ones, something that GPD X can't since it doesn't have wifi like this (but has at least shown to use PS3 controllers with a USB splitter). The main thing RG351P and 351M have going for them seems to be the interface and better controls, but apparantly they have a 3:2 aspect ratio, coupled with no wifi and slightly more seem like it might not be ideal.

Absolutely! I intend to do a full spectrum of guides for the RP2, including Pegasus and other launchers. I'm finding that dividing my time between the RP2 and RG350/351 devices is quite challenging, so it might be a bit before I make another one!

I'm after HDMI and wireless multiplayer on Dreamcast/N64/PS1 for the cheapest price. So far, the Retroid 2 and R351m seem to be the only devices with built-in wifi that can play these (350m/350p can't play 3D emulators, and 351p lacks wifi.) Pocketgo s30 and rk2020 both are selling for ONLY $60, but the s30 lacks N64 Wifi doesn't seem to be the deal breaker, seeing as dongles are possible, but that means forking out extra cash for ugly add-ons, trial and error (no video proof these wireless dongles really work, as shown here they are difficult/don't). I have seen the $200+ GDP XD (clamshell, ideal large screen) work with specific wireless controllers with dongles, but I'm not certain PS3/4 would work. Speaking of larger screens, the O Droid Super has a larger screen like the Vita, but it starts at $200, so you might as well get a Vita or Wii U and mod them, since they can play better emulation like PS2, GC, 3DS iirc. (All of which will probably be to be outdated compared to the AYA NEO that can play PS3 and Switch kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqaoloKce7R8msk or $700+ GPD Win MAX kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6rUaZeeodOJZ5I or $950 GPD Win 3 kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3_Jk5mGnbSce5I There's also the control factor, two joysticks on the bottom on 350p/m and 351p/m models seems ideal, but stacked shoulder buttons on the Retroid 2 and Pocketgo s30 are also very useful for the DS and Shooters, etc, and although joysticks are arranged different on the Retroid 2 (and the right one isn't the greatest), at least it has 2, whereas both Pocketgo and rk2020 only have 1, but then again, only a few N64 titles and such can even use both joystick, since initial PS1 and DS never had a single joystick, and Dreamcast/N64/PSP only ever had 1. What I do appreaciate on the Retroid 2 is the extra space on the bottom, as I think the joysticks may be too low on most of these devices to be comfortable for longer durations.. Another thing I was worried about was fixing things myself, the Pocketgo s30 is marketed as easy to use out of the box, but was janky unless you upgrade it via the KZbin tutorial, which actually is a bit more complicated than they say. Most, like the 350 series, requires a linex program for ROMs but it actually seems simple, just big because you're going to have/need both types of ROM's I think. So Retroid 2 seem the easiest since you can drag games on without the Linex, because it is the only one that is Android based. As far as User Interface, I was initially deturbed about how everything looked on...basically everything aside from the s30 and Powkiddy RGB 20 kzbin.info/www/bejne/naqVdWqQaqeNgsU [The Retrostation being sold out is how I found out about this in general. The affiliate sent me there, to that ugly device with atrocious shoulder buttons; to my knowledge, most other Powkiddys and similar devices marketed with thousands of games on them can't play Dreamcast/N64 and most games are NES/Atari, so that's where it shines, but it only has a handful of N64/Dreamcast etc anyways, didn't seem worth it.) Appearancewise, Pocketgo only comes in the SNES colors (I prefer black and transparent colors), rk2020 at $60 only comes in grape (pretty nice imo, smoke is probably available elsewhere for more), and 351p comes in white/black/GC blue, while the Retroid 2 comes in many like the PS2 black, NES Black/Red, or there are $150 Funtastic transparent versions (too bad they are so expensive) So ultimately, this is for a friend, but I also may play him in Power Stone, etc so I'm split between Retroid 2 and rk2020. Retroid 2 were said to take months for delivery, but I think they restocked. His Birthday is aproaching fast so...I probably screwed up last night when I bought the rk2020 after getting fatigued from all of this research. If I were to buy a device right now, it'd be the Retroid. It even comes with AM2R and a mini HDMI cable (or is it micro HDMI?), and I honestly didn't factor in wifi up to this point because I figured all had blutooth capabilities. Oh well, I saved $20 somewhat, but now I gotta pick up a Micro C to C/HDMI/USB splitter and a Wifi Dongle, and hope the 32 GB card it comes with is enough for at least the best N64/PSP/DC games like Powerstone, but will 1 dongle be enough? Not really a save..

I noticed that the rg351 comes with a charge cable, but not with a plug, how can I charge it?

You'll want to plug it into a 5V 1A charging brick. It doesn't fast charge, and can get damaged by some bricks. Many modern adapters will reduce the charge speed (like those from Anker), but not all of them. Personally I just plug it into my PC to charge since it adapts to the power it needs.

The units with WiFi (like the 351M) have the ability to turn off WiFi in the settings menu. So yes, perfectly safe!

Yes! Once Anbernic releases the source code it should be easy to port over other OSs. Right now they don't work properly with the device, the rumble won't shut off.

Yes, if you check my handhelds setting guide I was able to fix all of these issues. This was very early on in my experience with the device, things have come a long way since then :) Also, there is a custom firmware called 351ELEC that does all of that configuration for you.

Mine came with a wifi dongle and adapter. You can still hear the static noise when it's plugged in also drains the battery fast

Putting some numbers behind the screen size comparisons between the 350m/RP2 and the 351p: Both the devices suggest 3.5" diagonal screen, with the RP2 & RG350 being 4:3 and the RG351p being 3:2. That means that the 4:3 devices have about 5.88 in^2 of screen to look at. The 351p has about 5.65 in^2. That's only about 4% less. However, when you correct those consoles back to 4:3, the black bars consume precious real estate. the 351p used in 4:3 mode ends up only showing 5.03 in^2. So, when you play SNES, e.g., in 4:3 scaling, the RP has about 15% reduced screen area. It's effectively a 3.2" screen instead of a 3.5" screen.

@@Arschmade Of course. It's been a while since I watched this specific video, but I'm pretty sure that he walks through the various consoles' native resolutions. I'm also pretty sure that he identifies GBA games as native 3:2 aspect ratio and, therefore, the 351P as the perfect device for those games. Your question makes me think that perhaps you didn't watch the video. If so, I highly encourage doing so ... most of your questions will actually be answered by watching RGC's wonderfully thorough videos.

Can someone help me?? I accidently changed the setting to Kid mode or something cause it wont let me change the settings or see the games but the games and firmware are still on the SD card because the RetroArch works just fine! Please help :(

I'm torn. I have made some improvements to the UI and screen scaling on the RG351P (more on that soon!), which has made me like the device more. I definitely like EmuElec more than Android. But I think overall the RP2 has more potential and although it will take some work, it can be tweaked into a very nice device.

TBH I don't think the level of letterboxing required for 4:3 is that noticable It's a lot better than letterboxing down on 16:9, which results like in a third of the screen combined being taken up by black wars

Go into RetroArch (while connected to your WiFi network), and then go to Online Updater > Update Cheats. Let that run, and then open up a game. Press L3 + R3 to get to the RetroArch quick menu, and then go to Cheats > Load Cheat File (Replace), and find the system that the game plays on (NES, SNES, etc). Scroll down until you find your game, and then select the game's cheat file. Now in the Quick Menu Cheats section if you scroll down you will see the cheats available. Turn on the ones you want, then select "Apply Changes".

Chocolate Doom runs great even on the anemic ARM9 in he V90 so I imagine the RK3326 in an OGA clone would lock it at 60FPS without breaking a sweat

The very low resolution. Half the pixels of the 350m, Is a deal breaker for me. An upgrade with half the resolution doesn't feel like an upgrade at all.

IMHO The wifi noise is only bothersome when used while gaming. I would have preferred to have it only for file transferring nevertheless. Understandable from a product designer standpoint as to not disappoint expectations but it would have been better still, that is a bummer

Retro Game Corps is the software exactly the same as the 350 series. I know the handheld runs Emuelec out of the box but does it have the same menu that you accessed ZDoom from after you installed?

It's not the same. They're both Linux-based, but this doesn't run OpenDingux opks like the RG350 devices, and it doesn't have the GMenu2x interface. So everything will need to be recompiled for OGA devices. It's really just running RetroArch and a couple other apps (PPSSPP and DraStic) with EmuElec as a frontend.
