A little over a year ago my wife wanted to get the RAV4 Prime and wanted to compare it to the Model Y. I have the Model 3 and she wanted something to replace her Leaf. So on Labor Day weekend we rented a new RAV4 Prime on Turo and Tesla gave us an overnight test drive of a Model Y 5 seat Long Range. The one absolute between the cars was the ability to put our dog crates in the back and have them accessible to us while we drive there would be no compromise on this. We compared driving, noise, I have a decibel meter, comfort and of course cargo space. We spent the better part of a day simply measuring the interior and driving around. We already knew where to drive to get the noisy concrete freeway areas and some rough residential roads. We even went to our local pet supply house and compared portable dog crates in both cars side to side. She really wanted the RAV4 Prime but after the comparison we purchased the Model Y. As she said, "I really want the RAV4 Prime but in every measurable way the Model Y was better. Additionally, the Model Y qualified for the $7500 credit and the RAV4 didn't. That plus the RAV4 Prime was already more expensive than the Model Y. We purchased the Model Y that weekend and it was delivered Tuesday morning to our home straight off the assembly line in Fremont. Edit: When we tested the lane holding in the RAV4 Prime is at best scary. The Model Y is near perfect. We use it a lot of the freeway. That was a major point against the RAV4 Prime.

Back in 2022, we needed to update our 10-year-old cars. My wife bought a Model Y, and I went with a Rav4 because my Prius had been an amazing car with over 200,000 miles and no major mechanical problems. Also, I wasn't ready to go all-electric. After 2 years, however, I traded my Rav4 for my own Model Y. I didn't hate the Rav4, but I also didn't love it. After waiting for over 6 months, the car Toyota sold me wasn't everything I wanted either. I got everything I wanted on my Model Y from Tesla, and I only waited 2 weeks. Our Teslas are the best cars we've ever owned, and that's saying something because Toyota makes some great cars.

@@jonolly8629being able to charge at home is a huge time and money saver over any internal combustion car. Literally 5 seconds to plug it in, charges over night at the cheapest electric rates. My electric cost is 1/3 of what gas would cost for the same mileage. Virtually maintenance free….and the more miles you drive in a year, the more you will spend on a car with an internal combustion engine and all auto engineers agree that an electric motor will significantly outlast an internal combustion engine. I’d love to own a Tesla. But KBB 30-40% resale value loss in 2 years or 20k miles tells me that’s a bad decision. A CRV / RAV4 only tend to lose 5-10% KBB value per 2 yrs / 20k miles. Plus each year the state collects $500-$1000 on Teslas for a roadway tax.

Good point! That's exactly why I bought my very first Tesla used when their vehicle prices literally collapsed last November. Got me a 2023 M3P directly from Tesla in the Atlanta area with about 15K miles on it for only $45K, and Tesla even provided the included FSD software package at no extra charge. Oh, the state of Georgia charges only $200 extra (was the same $ amount for my Nissan LEAF back in 2016-ish) to register my Tesla each year.

You get so much more with the Toyota. You get frequent oil changes, fuel filter changes, air filters. Variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, overstressed from turbocharging, CVT transmissions, oxygen sensors, mass airflow sensors, air intake temperature sensors, catalytic converters, EVAP leaks, crankshaft position sensors. Exhaust gas recirculation, a charcoal cannister, oil filters, one fuel pump inside the gas tank and another high-pressure fuel pump at the engine. But to name a few . . .

You are definitely not talking abt rav4 but a diesel ICE car. You are passing misinformation about Rav4. Rav4 doesn’t have a turbo charger. Oil and air filter changes are at 10000miles/annual. It doesn’t use a CVT transmission but a planetary gear system with power split device but for simplicity sake, it is referred to eCVT. Planetary gear system with power split device uses 2 electric motor as the transmission and that is why it drives like a EV.

An ICE car has 2000 moving parts, 35% efficiency, 25 cents cost per miles, must go to gas station to get gas. An Electric vehicle has 30 moving parts, 95% efficiency, 8 cents cost per miles, plug in at home 99% of the time for most peoples. A Hybrid car has 2020 moving parts, 50% efficiency, 17 cents cost per miles, can plug in or pump gas. When it comes to repair, hybrid car is the worst because it has all the components of ICE and Electric combine toghether.

It would be a great improvement if Vion added magnets to their sunroof shade, similar to what we see in newer models. This simple addition would make the shade easier to remove when needed, addressing a key concern for users seeking convenience. While the current Vion shade is effective at reducing heat, its lack of easy removability is a drawback. I believe this enhancement would significantly improve the overall user experience

We have both cars. A Prime (which you should have compared, not the wilderness edition) and a Y Technology Rav 4 Feels like the 2000s want their infotainment system back Tesla being a software company is top notch Also the stats on power used and efficiency is absolutely terrible on the prime. You could tell the Prime model and the electrification of the model was definitely secondary or an afterthought. The Toyota app is worthless and I removed it from my phone the same day I bought the car. The Tesla app is amazing and works well. Fit and Finish You would think that a Rav 4 made in Japan would easily beat the Tesla. Nope, I have had to take my Rav 4 in multiple times for vibrations in the steering wheel and the front dash. The dealer has mostly fixed the issues but should you really have to take a 52k car to fix vibrations multiple times and days? I have never had an issue with the Tesla. Autodrive. I don't use the term FSD because it's a joke. I absolutely hate how the Tesla will ghost brake for no apparent reason when on normal cruise. I would never trust FSD with my life or my fellow motorist. The assisted drive on the Tesla is great in perfect conditions. The Toyota system was so bad I turned it off the first day I had the car. Drive The drive with the Tesla is more harsh. I will likely get aftermarket R18s instead of the 20s that came with the car in the future. Winter Driving I really dislike how you cannot take the aggressive regen off in the new model Y's. Even with snow tires if you let off the accelerator too quickly you get that sliding feeling. I haven't had an opportunity to drive the Toyota yet in the snow. Range: The range with Tesla is an issue. The so called 330 miles isn't even close. Especially driving in Colorado Mountains with snow tires when it's -10 outside. This is the only reason I have a prime and not two Model Ys.

You can customize regen in Track Mode if you have a 2024 MYP. Oh btw my 2024 MYP started with FSD v11.4.9 free-transferred from my 2023 M3P in March of this year. FSD v11.4.9 was trash comparing to FSD v12.5.4.1 that has been installed in my 2024 MYP since about two (2) weeks ago. Edited to say: While Elon Musk used the term "Full Self-Driving" in his sales pitch, I have yet to see an official Tesla publication explicitly defining said term as it applies to vehicle autonomy; reference: SAE J3016. So, I wouldn't get all upset about the term "FSD" that is nothing more than just a name given to a Tesla product.
