How to install a bike chain on your mountain bike

End caps are a must if you don't want a core sample! A few years ago a friend of mine took a bar to the gut and cut his liver in half!

I see some issues with this method, as cage length & pulley/jockey wheel size will effect the chain length, with full suspension bikes, you have to compress the chock to the where the rear axle is furthest out in the travel. So that's why I get the chain trough the Rd cage and biggest cogs, and compress suspension to measure, this is important if changing to different Rd.

Note: the chain calculator length app doesn’t take into account chain guides, if a person has one, which slightly throws off the chain length calc.

I've always used the KMC quick link. Now you can get a master link from Shimano. Also for a full suspension, don't you do it a little differently?

Never had gears , so my road kill MTB chain is basically still on , needed new wheel , so how to get correct gear, large / large ( can remember that ) so I guess the gear changer on handle bar doesn't matter at this point . guess its a stupid question

for suspension bikes you have to count for chain growth, so you must remove air in the shock, and compress it to where the axle is furtherest out in the travel. So short version is no.
