Interesting. The CTS Divine Worship: Daily Office is in my sights, which has made me more interested in the BCP that it's derived from. I'm grateful you've done so many videos on the BCP.

Thanks for commenting! I plan to post at least two more BCP videos - one on the 1662 International Edition, and one on the Cambridge large-print 1662 BCP.

@@RGrantJonesI look forward to both. In a couple of days (if the website is correct), a larger pew edition of the 1662 International Version will be released. There are a couple of typos I hope are fixed. Otherwise I am very pleased with it. There is an EXCELLENT glossary on pp. 747-764. I have been Episcopalian (and now Anglican) since 1980 and have read on, studied, and studied about the Prayer Book and I learned many things from it. In fact, I was impressed enough to sit down and read every single entry and am doing so again as a refresher. The only complaint I have is that due to absence of lines, dots, or something is that it is impossible for me to easily use the monthly calendars to determine the days' readings with using a ruler to follow the entries across the page. If I've been diligent that's less of a problem. But, if I am getting out of a period where my daily office recitation has been far from ideal or I was sick and unable to do so, then it becomes an issue.

How very timely. I've only just recently received a pair of Common Prayer editions fron the 1928 Prayer Book Alliance. It was a bit of a challenge to get them. As much as i like the current Oxford edition (I've the same one you show here) it's nice to see alternatives readily available. My favorites, though, will likely always be the older Oxfords on India paper: magnificent prayer books.
@RGrantJones Жыл бұрын
I like the older editions with India paper also. As I prepared to do this video, I searched eBay and noticed that used copies in good condition were somewhat expensive, so perhaps others agree with us.

Great review as always, thank you! In addition to Oxford and Deus, Anglican Parishes Association still prints the 1928 BCP. They also still print the 1928 BCP combined with the KJV in one volume. The KJV in that edition is the exact same text block as the Oxford/Allan Brevier Clarendon and 5 WM, but with the Apocrypha.

Thanks for letting me know about that edition, James. I've added it to my wish list.

I'd really to get a copy of the KJV/BCP 1928 (and a KJV/1662) in one volume without spending a fortune. I don't see one currently listed on their page. Perhaps they don't carry it anymore.

Great video Sir. Do you have a older one from the 1950s with the Hymns you could review?

I have a small 1928 BCP with hymns, but it's in very bad shape. I may reluctantly show it at some point. I've been taking a break from posting new videos lately as I prepare to retire and relocate.

Thanks for commenting, Larry. Yes, I can certainly review it. By the way, my copy of the larger print edition has five ribbons, but I added the three red ones myself.

If and when an edition of the English 1662 BCP becomes available, might you review it?

Yes, I plan to review two editions of the 1662 book. I have a large print Cambridge edition, as well as the 1662 International Edition from IVP.

In these days, many of us, especially those who will not again set foot in an Anglican church, are using prayer books privately at home. Do you know of any good book contains just morning and evening prayer, or similar? (One could make one’s own, I suppose!)

No, I don't know of such a prayer book, but I haven't searched for one.

Thank you for this review. At my age, I think that the newer Oxford might be more readable! But, are there major differences between the American 1929 BCP and the English 1662 BCP?
@RGrantJones Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, alex. I wouldn't say the changes are major, but there are differences. For instance, the '28 American BCP rearranges and adds material in the communion service between the prayer of consecration and communion. In morning and evening prayer, the '28 American prayer book offers the minister options to skip prayers and to replace the introduction to the general confession with the line, "Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God."

May I ask what the "paper quality" is of this prayer book? Is the paper like "phone book paper" or is more heavy paper, with a firm like quality to it? Thank you! :)
@RGrantJones10 күн бұрын
The paper here is fairly heavy. Not at all like a phone book.
@matthewjorgensen190310 күн бұрын
@@RGrantJones Thank you! I have one copy of the BofCP and it has very "phone book" like paper. Not terrible, but I would prefer a more firm type of paper. This might be the BofCP for me! Thank you so much! 🙂

Thanks for the question, but I'm not sure what you're asking. This Book of Common Prayer doesn't include the Apocrypha, though the lectionary includes readings from it. I've never heard of anyone modifying the 1928 Book of Common Prayer to eliminate readings from the Apocrypha.
