RGT Scales for Para 3 Install and Impressions

I got a set of RGT blue canvas micarta scales for my Spyderco Lil Native. I had no issue replacing the scales. It was easy, and the scales fit perfectly. While apart, I cleaned and lubricated the pivot. Even with the small blade and the pivot screws properly tightened, when releasing the compression lock, the blade drops shut easily. I have no complaints about function. And I much prefer the look and feel of micarta compared to G-10.

I have RGT python canvas micarta scales on a Demko AD20.5 and they are fantastic! I'm thinking about putting some RGT scales on my digi camo para 3. I just love the feel of RGT's micarta.

only draw back i found is that if youre putting your para 3 with micarta scales like this through hard use, the scales are inclined to warping over time.

@@The_commonman i highly advise doing so. I think it's why spyderco did full liners on their crucarta line up.

Just curious but do the micarta or linen scales generally have a texture or grippy feel? I bought a used para 3 on eBay with linen scales but they feel smooth. Not what I was expecting so I may change them to some fat carbon scales.

In my experience, linen scales are generally a little less grippy than canvas. This can be different between manufacturers of course, but with RGT the canvas scales are plenty grippy. The only issue I’ve noticed is when they are wet, they can feel a little bit slippery. But I’m normal use canvas micarta has plenty of grip, and it’s surprisingly lightweight on my para 3.

@@The_commonmangood to know. I’m assuming since this was a eBay customized knife they probably used the cheapest scales and nothing of good quality anyway. I have some RGT scales on the way so hopefully I will like them better.

I got the white storms today and they look and the skinny’s feel great. I’m having a hell of a time getting the things to seat on the blade pivot for some reason. Hopefully I can get it without tearing them up. It’s my first scale swap so it’s being a little challenging.

@@whatfreedom7 that’s great! I remember the install being a little finicky, just make sure the d shaped section of the barrel is seated properly. Just take your time, I’m sure it’ll turn out good!
