Exactly, if Sega was to come back, which I doubt they will anytime soon if at all. I would love to see Sega do a console similar to the Nintendo Switch. I am wondering if gaming will need to progress to hybrids in the not too distant future to survive since people are so busy, etc..

Brandon What? No one has issue with a console platform having their own store. No one. The only exception is PC gamers who don't like having so many (Steam, Origin, GoG, Blizzard's thing, Bethesda's thing, Ubisoft's thing, etc...). If a closed system is a non-starter for you, then you must not own a single console and use a linux PC instead, which is a microscopic size part of the market. A closed system where there's royalties is the only thing that makes sense for a console.

Hazim El missni called it out as a scam on my channel and the Spartan team replied that it wasn't and the console wasn't just a render but an actual working prototype. Whether Sega takes notice to it or not, it gave us something to talk about, made us voice how much we as gamers (retro game enthusiasts) would love to see Sega comes back into the console market and in my opinion they did a great job designing the case even if it is a render! Their heart is in the right place...

All this is (IMO) is just a Sega version of the Ataribox. I don't see this going anywhere at all, and I have my doubts about the Ataribox as well. However, CollectorVision is working their own game console. According to them it has a Spartan 6 FPGA with 2 Mb SRAM. It is said to support Colecovision, MSX, Sega Master System, Atari 2600 and SG-1000. You may want to look into that further. The AtariAge forum title is "CollectorVision Game System". Also, they actually have a working prototype unlike others. Take care and keep up the good work. Hope you get to feeling better as well.

I miss the Sega and Nintendo days. The consoles both where different and had thier own personality and games. Both Sony and Microsoft feel too much the same. It might be harder for Sega, yet they are very rich and I'm sure that developers of games like Streets of Rage 2, Altered Beast, Alien Storm, etc aren't making much money on the license anymore. I mean for Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, those 3 games were on it anyway.

I suppose the idea is "Hey Sega, we know you don't want to make consumer hardware any more, so we'll make the hardware for you and you just put your games on it." I don't see how this can succeed because: 1. Consumers won't buy hardware without decent games. 2. There won't be any decent games unless Sega comes on board. 3. Sega won't come on board since there is no hardware and no market to sell the games to. How can it ever get off the ground?

RGT, they apparently have a prototype running... and you can see in theirs youtube channel a Spartan OS running and emulating a Saturn. About what SWM said about business sense, I think there is some miss information about the use of open source software and been a open source where anyone can run software. Obviously there will be hacks (all systems were hacked anyway) to install steam and whatnot but, I do believe they will propose to SEGA to build a online shop where you can buy those past games.

Saturn's Trade Secrets remain protected and it was made with a special UNIX based BIOS and OS. Sega won't allow Retro Saturns and Homebrews to be made, because its too expensive. And they certainly won't allow AtGames or Retron to allow a Saturn Mini. Because Sega wouldn't be making ANY profits on a name they are STILL protecting.(trademarks.justia.com/745/69/sega-74569034.html) The only way for Saturn homebrewing and Saturn comp-ability to be made is through a Console licensed out to and made For Sega's brand, That's where RAZOR comes in. It'll have the proper Chip needed to run Saturn games and will have the flashed BIOS of Saturn for Backwards Compatibility.

The Spartan people hasn't update their website in two years now so I had to say that project is officially dead. Their last update was on April 29, 2018 regarding the new controller they just made a 3D concept of, after that it's basically 2 years of nothing.

The only way this would work would be if the people behind it were all top tier coders, and had created a massive catalogue of AAA games with which to entice SEGA. Right now, SEGA are surviving by making games cross platform. They would need to be confident they could produce the console, market it, ship it, support it AND sell it, and the only way to do that would be to return to making games exclusively for their new system-though I do recall we used to get ports of SEGA games made by other companies in the good old days of The Great Nintendo vs SEGA Console War, other than nostalgia, I see no reason for anybody to buy a new SEGA console if it's not offering anything that they can't find elsewhere. I am a believer that one day SEGA will return with a new console, but they'll be very careful about it and choose their battles. It certainly won't be for another few more generations, at least. SEGA's current market cap is $3.85b. Sony's is $47.48b. Nintendo's is $54.82b. Right now they simply do not have the R&D budget to re-enter the market. Even if everything was done for them and handed on a silver platter, it would have to be a no way to lose situation.
