@Lukas-ny2fz2 күн бұрын
Oh yes, absolutely. But one thing that people conveniently forget is that some art styles require much more powerful hardware to look good than others. I recently played path of exile 2 and that games absolutely gorgeous with its ancient ruins and desert areas. Its still not top of the line in terms of graphical fidelity but requires pretty decent hardware to run (eden ring would be another game that would fit that category). So while i agree that a good art style is much mor important than pure graphical fidelity, some art styles just require it to look good. Additionally better hardware just makes games run smoother and is easier to develop for, especially if you dont expect to push it to its limits.

You have to remember that the OS will occupy at least 1 maybe 2GB of RAM. So there may only be 10GB of LDDR5X RAM available for games. Now, if the OS is just the same as the current Switch with only minor tweaks, 10 - 11GB of _usable_ RAM should be plenty. HOWEVER, if Nintendo plans to have other things going on with the console, that would also require RAM taking it away from the games. So, it all depends on what background tasks the OS has going on and how memory-hungry they are.

What you are calling heat shielding is actually nothing to do with heat, it is for eliminating radio frequency interference. Effectively to ensure that no harmful RF emissions are radiated by the chips, or outside RF emissions absorbed by them they put a metal can connected to the ground plane over them.

@@TiredOx7536 There are lots of methods electronic manufacturers use to prevent RF interference being emitted or external RF from interfering with a device’s operation. Shielding individual components that are susceptible to emitting or being affected is very common as can be seen on this mainboard, as is encasing the entire mainboard in a metal chassis like most home consoles use. Phones and other smaller devices will often use a conductive metallic coating or thin film on the inside of panels that are not already metallic due to space constraints preventing more extensive shielding.

I’m so sick of folks who don’t know what they’re talking about thinking DLSS is a magic bullet. If you can just take a low end GPU and use upscaling what is the point of a 4090? That’s not at all how it works. Let’s remember the size of the GPU dictates the amount of tensor cores and RT cores available. Since DLSS runs on the tensor cores, the performance of DLSS is directly proportional to the number of tensor cores available in the GPU. Secondly, there is a computational cost to DLSS. The more powerful the GPU is, the better performance you’ll get from DLSS in terms of frame times and pacing. What DLSS won’t do is take a GPU up an entire class.

Realistically, the Switch 2 will be comparable to a PS4 Pro. The 12GB of RAM will also better allow Nvidia's upscaling technology to run in the background. The 12GB, coupled with its very fast RAM, should also alleviate RAM constraints that we see on systems like the Xbox Series S. Nvidia will likely be running a custom version of its upscaling technology on the Switch 2, so it will be better customized for working with a mobile SoC. We may also see a 1280 x 720p (16:9) LCD screen as a cost-cutting measure by Nintendo. (Possibly OLED depending on how price negotiations work with suppliers) 1080p would be nice. As someone who has been playing an Xbox One and Series X who recently got a Switch, I am honestly impressed at how well games like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Mortal Kombat 11 look and play on the Switch. Are these versions paired down compared to their PC and console counterparts? Yeah, but it's always been accepted that handhelds sacrifice raw power for the benefit of portability. But let's think about this. The Switch has already proven it can run PS4 or even PS5 level games even at lower resolutions and some cut backs Now, imagine a Switch 2 that at the bare minimum is capable of offering PS4 level performance in a handheld with little doubt that developers will tap into the full potential and do impossible things like they did on the Switch. But here's the other thing to consider. Outside if Nintendo's own games, imagine watching Black Ops 6( which has a PS4 and Xbox One port) running on the Switch 2 with virtually no compromises made. Yeah, a handheld that can play not just Nintendo's newest games but major third party games like Black Ops 6 is going to attract attention and most people buying a Switch 2 won't give a damn that it's less powerful than a PS5.

"A second cartridge slot." Lol.
@cryptos66462 күн бұрын
well, look straight at this main image of the board, it looks upside down from how it would actually be facing. The USB C port that is at the top of this image looks more supported by metal housing and would be the dock rest most likely. The cartridge slot and extra USB C port is on the bottom of the image of this board, so it seems to me, if this is real, that the board shown is upside down. To answer the question about the extra SD Card slot, it most likely is on the opposite side of the board somewhere or on a separate board that connects elsewhere.

There's no way I'll be getting a Switch 2. Haven't even touched my original Switch in over 2 years. Especially now that physical games are going to see a crazy price hike, and the cost to manufacture custom Switch cartridges is certainly not helping.

There's still place for raw power because fully realistic graphics have not be achieved yet but Nintendo does seem to have a different philosophy than just raw power they are probably thinking about the components that make up for a nice and smooth gaming experience and not just the most state of the art graphics, each brand has its own niche I guess.
@D2Kprime2 күн бұрын
We've reached the point of diminishing returns on realism and are now in that uncanny valley state where things look almost 100% real but you can tell that it isn't and it feels uncomfortable. Like AI. This realism looks cool. but it not enhancing gameplay at all. If I want to watch a movie, I'll watch a movie. I don't want to PLAY a movie. Nintendo's problem is they swing the pendulum too far in the opposite direction which is equally unnecessary and damaging as sacrificing everything for bleeding-edge visuals. There is a happy middle-ground that Nintendo needs to find where their games look like they are next-gen, but not so next-gen that it interferes with gameplay. Ratchet and Clank for the PS4 and PS5 is a perfect example of what Nintendo needs to do with Mario, Donkey Kong, Pok'e'mon, Kirby, and hopefully StarFox one day.
@ernjdasdd2 күн бұрын
Ai upscaling isnt about making games more efficient. There are many ways to do that without it. Most developers see ai upscaling as a means to be lazy during development because the ai will hide it.

The Gameboy Color was backwards compatible and it only had one cartridge slot, the GBA was backwards compatible and it only had one cartridge slot, 3DS was backwards compatible and it only had one cartridge slot, the DS and DS Lite had two cartridge slots but that seemed to only have to do with the fact that the DS cartridges were a decently different size than the GBA cartridges. The Switch 2 Cartridges will probally be close enough to the shape of the original Switch cartridges that they can end up using the same cardtridge slot on the Switch 2.

Due to the USB-C disposition, if it is in fact real, the final console won't be that thin.

There is a connector on the board, so I'd say that might be your other slot. That maybe the main board, but I'd guess there are other boards that connect by ribbon cable or something. I'd say we are not seeing the full picture here.

I don't know why you brought up physical media for Switch 1 games, one of the photos literally has a switch 1 cart in it... 9:12. Also Nintendo has a track record of slightly modifying the cart design. Remember 3DS had a slight notch so it wouldn't insert into an OG DS. Also, they could go the Gameboy Color route and just clearly mark the packaging stating it's only for Switch 2 and use the same media cards they used for the OG switch with just higher capacity.

Nintendo is playing the longest game there is. They are releasing a system with hardware that is 7-8 years old, in order to play games that look like they were released 4-5 years ago. Sure, the graphics won't be on par with PC or PS5 pro, but the difference in most games will be barely noticable because most people won't even notice the details in backgrounds or faces.

Upscaling isn’t going to save Switch 2 games from looking noticeably worse than the other consoles on the market. The current consoles already use upscaling and are struggling with modern games. How is a significantly weaker switch 2 going to compete?

Dlss is really a game changer for something like the switch that can’t brute force high resolutions. That and it offers built in antialiasing which %99 of Nintendo games lack. Plus dlss can help in handheld mode to get better performance and image quality and still remain efficient.

Newer consoles are so minimal in difference than they use to be. It's not like going from the SNES to N64 or even from the Gamecube/Wii to the Wii U or Switch. What will the Switch 2 offer that the Switch is currently not capable of? Slightly higher resolution? Maybe slightly better performance? Why make more trash when the current system works and looks fine already? Plus 4K games take longer to make and take longer to download. 1080p is just fine.

Ive always thought "attach" was a feature, not a consol name. Want to play switch 1 games, theres an attachment for that. Want a 2nd screen, extended battery life, or enhanced rumble? There can be an attachment for all that with the 2nd usb port. I think switch 1 digital games carry over, but cartridges will be played through a sleak attachment for $59.99+ lol

I've been very optimistic about the prospect of a new switch with DLSS. If it's anywhere as awesome as it is for PC games on lower end systems, it's going to be a total game changer for Nintendo's traditionally weaker hardware and open the door for more demanding stuff to be featured in the new system.

I wonder if they're going to fix the input lag from the original Switch?
@MrHeller552 күн бұрын
Its this simple for those who don't understand. Nvidia is 1.5-2.25x the performance per watt especially at low wattage. If the switch 2 is 45 watts docked like the rumors have said that means it's about 90 watts of the ps5. That means about half the raw power of ps5 and this is before factoring in the far superior Nvidia upscaling tech vs amd upscaling tech. I'm not saying the switch 2 will be as powerful as ps5 but it will be way closer than most people expect and when DF does their comparisons with 3rd party games you'll be needing to see the zoomed parts to see the difference.
