I’ve been exposed to every “level” of PRS at length, so I’ve *really* studied the differences over the years...my number one has been a custom 24 since 2002, I have a ce-24 semihollow that I LOVE and I work on guitars for a living so I’ve had quite a few SE imports come through my shop, private stocks, artists, blah blah. The thing that really stands out about the PRS hierarchy is that every level feels “familiar” and they’re all high quality. I’ve had SE custom 24s roll through that feel unbelievable, several that (superficially) rival my core cu24. They’re very much PRS guitars. So that’s kind of the nice thing...you don’t have to spend four grand to “join the club”. But if you ever do decide to take the dive and pick up a core model, you’ll probably go “whoa...ok, I get it...this is a really, really nice guitar...a legacy instrument”. You aren’t getting ripped off at any level and to be honest, the conversations I have with SE owners are very similar to the ones I have with core owners. I always cringe when a customer calls their guitar “just an SE”. That’s bullshit, man...if it’s a good guitar, it’s a good guitar.

The fact that PRS has standards so high that even their SE import guitars have better feel and playability than 8 out of 10 American made guitars do, says a lot about the genuine pride that the company still has working within it. Always makes me wonder what the quality of Fender & Gibson would be like if Orville and Leo were alive and still owned what they started. And how fast will PRS decline in quality if Paul sold out or passed away. The only other company making guitars that cares about quality the same way is ESP.

I currently own three PRS guitars and have not played anything else since 1990(30 years!). The craftsmanship, build quality, QC, play ability, tones are second to none(not to mention they are works of art). I listened very closely to all 4 guitars in this video. IMHO the DGT is by far the best sounding of them all with the CE 24 in second. The best part of the DGT however is how much happiness it brings you-your passion for all things guitars comes through every video you make but watching you play the DGT is what playing guitar is all about! You will absolutely love the DGT for MANY years to come! The Custom 24 & CE 24 are both great guitars as well. I personally am not a fan of the S2 nor the SE-they certainly have their place but for just a little bit more money the CE 24 is head & shoulders above the S2. The CE 24's are so good that they rival their older more expensive Brother the Custom 24! Great video! Please keep them coming!

I was in the same boat. Bought my first PRS (S2 594 McCarty, burnt amber). On paper, it ticked all the boxes, comfort cuts, ease of upper fret access, straight type of string pull at headstock, but for the dumbest reason, I was just not a huge fan of the inlays. I know, why buy then, but it was a “smokin’” deal that I couldn’t pass it up. It fits like a glove strapped on or sitting down, I really like it and wasn’t expecting it! They’ve improved them since they were launched. The early ones were pretty cheap looking. Totally flat tops, no birds, etc. It’s really because they’re almost entirely made with machines. That’s why they’re so consistent. The difference is the quality/age of the wood, the quality of finishing, neck and fretwork. And the construction of course. While SE bodies are typically 4 piece, the Core are one or two piece mahogany with a two piece book matched maple cap (or one piece). Also no scarf joints used on Core and Private Stock either. The average person doesn’t notice this stuff but you can see it if you look closely. Same thing when you compare American Pro Fender to Custom Shop Fender.

Try the s2 Satin standard 24. It can be had for 600-700 used. Regular USA PRS Frets. Nitro finished.

I found this to be a slight problem on my 594 as well. I wish the frets were bigger.

not only the "levers" are differents, but the guitars have different parts, like the bridge, the woods, they will sound differents. I liked it all

To my ears, the CE stood out in all modes. I think the maple neck made everything “jump” a bit more, Which seemed to bring an extra clarity over the others. I have no idea what pickups were involved, either, but assume none were too extra......

The ce most likely has 85/15's in them. I agree with your assessment of the ce. I notice that in my ce's too

I have a SE 245 and SE Standard 24 and love them both. In my opinion the PRS SE line is the best value you can get in electric guitars.

I'm surprised at the number of comments saying they didn't hear any difference. I thought each had a distinct sound. I am listening through JBL monitors and not cheap headphones, so that may be why. I like the brightness and clarity of the CE the most. It would come down to the feel and finances for a final decision though. ;) Nice comparison, Robert.

Does anyone really think it is the guitar that is the defining component of the sound? I say the amp and the EFX are much more of what the sound is. I have an AXE FX III and that can make any guitar sound like whatever you want it to be. Am I wrong?
@jefft79684 жыл бұрын
@@JB19504 Generally, I would agree with you, but when you have the same musician playing the same riffs through the same signal chain, as in this case, the variable is the guitars.

I’m using my phone speaker. And it’s correct. All of them have a distinct sound. It’s clear every time Robert changes guitar. However I wonder if by changing pickups the guitars would be closer sounding to each other

The CE and the Paul’s guitar are honestly my 2 favorite sounding ones. I have a 35th Anniversary SE Custom 24 and it’s easily my favorite guitar I’ve ever owned. Serious quality throughout the range.

Yeah, those pickups on the CE were hot. I was gonna get an SE just to have a PRS, but I might have to save a little while longer for a CE. We'll see. I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever one I get.

I got a CE-24, in satin Angry Larry, as a gift. I play hippie shit, so the 85/15’s are just too damn hot for me to use it, in everyday playing. It was a gift, so it’s mine til I die, but I’ll eventually look to swap the pickups for some 57/08’s. They’re more my style. The guitar is fantastic though. My tech hasn’t done a damn thing to her in 3 years. Always complains that he can’t charge me. Lol. The Silver Sky is awesome too. Haven’t played my Elite Strat in over a year.

I had an SE and didn't love the pickups. Traded it for a ce24 with 85/15s and it had waaay more clarity than the SE.

I own 2 SE's...both limeted edition guitar's. Both are custom 24's but the one has a roasted maple neck, absolutely love it! The other SE is a 35th anniversary with the duel toggles like the "Paul's guitar " your giving away. Amazing guitar's, especially for the price point! I also have that exact S2, even the color is the same. I think the S2 and your new blue core had the most warmth. But when you start adding delays, reverbs etc. It's all gonna be how the neck feels. Believe it or not..my 1st SE custom with the roasted maple neck is my favorite. I'm sending it back to Maryland to have new electronics, pickups and a core tremola. I have 23 guitar's and that damn thing has bonded with my hands!😁😁great review Robert. Absolutely love your channel!

I have a PrS SE, and I had a shecter bass. Both have amazing looks and playability, both were bought used for under $500(ea), and both sounded great. I did not particularly care for the EMG's in the bass. I swapped the SE pickups after several years for some Pearly Gates. It is now a nearly perfect guitar!

Heard white snake Is this Love, great song. 80's was great era for Big Hair, good rock and ballads. Each guitar sounded different. CE would be perfect for clear tone. I agree on the neck, I love the big neck on the SE, I have the SE 24-08 and that is why I picked it for the neck and the combination on 8 tones. Great video.

You will wait a very long time unless you pre-order. Everyone who pre-orders is ahead of you and all of the 594s that trickle into the retailers are already spoken for. So the websites will always say 'more on order.'

Wow PRS is really good at designing the different levels! The higher the price, the better it gets sadly for us. I really liked your CE honestly, especially on the first crunch sample. I would say If you're considering the DGT, take a look at the CE and if you're considering the S2, you should reeeaaaally consider the CE. Just get a CE for ***'s sake!
@vancepitman21053 жыл бұрын
He actually has these out of order. The S2 is more expensive than the the CE for a comparable model, at least the year I bought mine. The S2 is neck through body,, like the Core series, but with body relief and extensive beveling, instead of the full hand-carved top of the Core series,. The CE line uses bolt-on necks. I have played CE and S2 models, and I definitely prefer the S2.
