Happy 100th birthday, Rhapsody in Blue. I’m sure George Gershwin is happily celebrating his masterpiece in heaven.

Every time I hear this song, I immediately think of NYC, and Fantasia 2000 did a beautiful job of capturing the spirit of musicality of NYC in their segment. My all-time favorite piece from Fantasia 2000!

Rhapsody in Blue is still my favorite song of my life! As a classically trained pianist, I was inspired by this piece because of Fantasia 2000 and from that time on, I wanted to practice that piece until I got my dream come true at a high school recital. I deeply thank Gershwin for sending me this beautifully grand song!

5:15, so true. When I hear this song I think of NYC. For me it's the anthem of the city. Yes, it has its problems but there's so much to do and see. About eleven and a half minutes in when the strings and piano play I get emotional sometimes. Just imagining NYC, the hustle and bustle, how so many people from all over the world can be in once place but also have so much history in it's buildings and museums. I love that song and that city.

Thank you for correcting the subtitle at the beginning. (It originally misidentified the clip as originating from the original 1940 Fantasia.)

I first fell in love with this in College, off my parents' Oscar Levant 78 recording and an L.P. of Leonard Bernstein playing and conducting it! Love it!

I have that Leonard Bernstein recording, too! I first heard it when I was a toddler, and didn't like it. But when I was in high school, a friend of mine was learning some Gershwin piano pieces, and I absolutely fell in love with Gershwin. I remembered my parents had that record, with Rhapsody in Blue on one side and An American in Paris on the other. I found it and listened to it, absolutely rapt. I couldn't help but wonder what the heck was wrong with me when I was three? Fifty-odd years later, I have tears in my eyes from hearing this beautiful music.

I've always loved this piece ever since I was a little boy. I have a Stereophile version of it that is glorious in its sound quality. Having a very nice stereo system at this point in my life, when I give it a little volume, the power and majesty... and the feel of being a purely American piece of music really comes through. I loved this CBS Sunday Morning piece on it in that I learned quite a bit of its history as a piece of music and about Gershwin as a composer. Age 25 when he wrote this - in 2 weeks... unbelievable.
