That's the main thing I admire about Chad and any player who plays this way. He knows the song inside and out, knows all the angles, improvises and somehow makes it all fit. Also, he's playing to the situation, so if you're at a gig, he's playing to *you*, playing by the seat of his pants and giving a performance unique to that night. There's no going through the motions and playing the same old parts off the record every night. Certainly some bands need to play more controlled, but live with the Chilis, with just the one guitar, what Chad does is needed. In this situation, with no vocals or band, he's giving you even more!

He does not need all those flashy techniques: he serves the song, has good timing and tastefull fills, for me that is way more important than being super technical (at least for the type of music he plays).

He switched to DW a little bit before The Getaway came out. This is weird to say, coming from a DW fan, but listening to a lot of their live footage... I think his Pearl drums suited him more. They just sounded a bit better to me.
