Emily, your exterminator lied to you - mice and rats do not cry blood. When stressed, the glands in their eyes can excrete a red lipid called porphyrin which creates a protective layer on their eyes. While it may look like blood due to the colouring, it actually is not and typically it stays around the eyes and wouldn't pool like that on the counter. Which makes me wonder what actually did happen...

Rats and mice do not cry blood. They have glands called Harderian glands that produce a red pigment called porphyrin that is used for lubricating the eyes and nictating membranes, and when they are stressed they don't groom as well so it builds up around the eyes. If it gets real bad it will get around the head, too, as the animal smears it around. It does not make big wet puddles like this, it's just like a smudgy kinda greasy substance.
