I used to work for McDonald's in the early 1990s. The most popular Happy Meal toys were the plastic Barbie Dolls. They had six dolls in different colored dresses and hairstyles, and many young girls wanted them for their collection. I remember many mothers and daughters coming into the restaurant and paying for all six dolls, not the meal. I had to make multiple trips to the stockroom to find each of them in several large boxes. On the cash register, it was called a Happy Box that included the Happy Meal Box and the toy.

I remember getting happy meals in 89-90. The toys were a plastic hamburger or all the nuggets, or a McShake. They were in a package that had to be opened to put on the decals. I worked next door at a competing pizza place. When I left work I would stop at McDonald’s. I never opened them. I wish I knew where they were.

That plastic bag hand puppet dates back from way before Happy Meals. It was exciting to get one because it was rare to give out anything to kids. Usually when you went, you got nothing but your food. Restaurants rarely ever had kids menus and they certainly weren't giving out prizes. Those only came at the bottom of a box of cereal! Fun fact- the McDonalds near us was a test market for the original happy meal in the late 70s. They were called Fun-to-Go meals and were thin like briefcases ( just wide enough for fries & a burger on it's side) and your prize was either a bag of McDonaldland cookies or an eraser either shaped like a high top sneaker or a race car.

80s kid here, I remember the plastic bag puppets. I don’t recall them ever being HM toys, they would fill these bags with handi-wipes and a few other items and attach them to the high chairs for parents to use. The puppet was supposed to entertain a baby/toddler, I guess. I actually liked the Popoids, they were just fun to stretch out. I feel like the worst HM toys are most everything from 2019-now. I have kids now, and the toys are mostly junky, plastic figures that don’t do anything, with the exception of a little lever that jiggles an arm, or something.

I always loved the toys that were tied to kids' movies and TV shows. Every time we went to a McDonald's I was always eager to beg my parents for a specific toy that came with the Happy Meal.

Um, no. Those sweet puppets kept me and my brother entertained. They weren't amazing but we wore those out. Only problem was sweaty hands making the puppet "bags" hard to remove. Simple times, a cheap burger and fries and a puppet to stay entertained while mama finished errands.

I really like your videos. Here is a suggestion for another McDonalds themed video. How about the good or best toys in Happy Meals? I'm thinking about when you got Legos as the toy. Also, what about old holiday themed cups/wrappers/napkins from fast food restaurants? I can remember when McDonalds had the holly and red berries on the cups, etc. I remember when McDonalds had the 1984 Olympics game/promotion. I'm a eighties kid, if you couldn't tell. Take care! Love the videos.

The tickle feather?! Really McDonald's?!👀. I missed the time of the tickle feather... I was born about 7 years after that particular so-called toy was a part of McDonald's Happy Meals. Man! I sure do wish I was around.. and at the age where I understood why it wasn't appropriate.. because I would love to see the look on parents faces when their child said look mommy! Ronald McDonald gave me a tickle feather! Like seriously.. what were they thinking!🤣🤣

The only happy meal toys I remember liking were Hot Wheels cars. My most disappointing kid's meal toy experience was actually from Wendy's. They had this series of little toy vehicles that would connect together to make a robot. I wanted that robot so my mom took me to Wendy's for lunch every day to get the toys, even going to the counter for me to ask to swap a duplicate for one I still needed. On what would have been the last day of this collecting spree, Wendy's changed their toys and I never got my robot's right arm.

the 2 times they had food transformers were best. then the hot wheels. we had those plastic hand pupets in our kitchen junk drawer growing up. I had 1 et poster but luckily got it rolled up not folded in box. the popoids just ever got 1 3 piece set so yeah it got tossed in a box and forgot. i remember couple others on here. i loved the outdoor play place. its just not the same anymore. used to be busy place inside full kids running around and playing in ball pit to 1 or 2 adults is all inside eating and looking on phone and then drive through line outside. not the place we used to vacation to on weekends as kids.

Best one that I remember as a kid was probably 1980 and I was about eight years old maybe a little older. It was novelty erasers that look like spaceships different types of alien spacecraft. They were awesome and I remember there being like four or five different ones. My friends and I played with those at school in our desk. I remember a lot of scratch off games at McDonald’s not happy meal related. But I remember one for Atari. They were scratch off’s. Most winners were apple pies and french fries but everyone was hoping to Atari 800 computer or a 5200 home game system. I’m positive no one won any of those fabulous prizes. My sister worked there when she was in high school probably 1980 and I remember her bringing home a stack of these scratch off game pieces that she ripped off. I was sure I was going to win BIG, I mean I had like 100+ scratchers. All I remember winning was a cheeseburger or a small french fry or a Sundae. I felt like Charlie Brown on Halloween.

I am not afraid of clowns, I actually like clowns and think most people claiming to be afraid of clowns are pretending....but, I do remember getting a certain clown toy from McDonald's in the late 90s that looked super scary for some reason. I remember throwing it in a drainage ditch because I didn't want to take it home. I wish I could see it again to know exactly what it was that scared me. I guess it was just an ugly clown toy. I am sad that Ronald McDonald disappeared though, all that clown hysteria damaged the reputation of people who are clowns for a living, I remember reading some articles about it.

I very rarely ate at McDonald's as a child; there were other burger places located closer to our house. I do remember one Happy Meal toy, probably from around 1980: it was a sponge shaped like Grimmace (in purple, no less). Even as a child I thought it was pointless.

Duuuuude, I just went to McD’s two days before Halloween just to get my meal in a bucket. I was up in drive thru talking bout how I’d like the pumpkin, but the ghost would be ok cause it glows. Then they handed me a box. Bro, I was so dang mad! Worst toy I ever got was a Chick-Fil-A cow shaped dental floss holder. It didn’t even come with dental floss. All my friends went there to eat and I was so excited, but that toy was the worst one I’ve ever gotten in my whole forty years of life thus far
