You had it made. I was a 1963 baby. Would have wanted to be old enough to go to a sock hop and wear a poodle skirt. My mom was born in 42. 40s sounded cool for kids to go barefoot all day and run around everywhere in the countryside. Down to the creek etc. But you may have had the best.

Me too! Reminds me of school when they had smoking areas and it wasn’t against the law to smoke. I don’t smoke and was never a big smoker but you could feel “cool” if you wanted to. In the 9th grade, my brother had a rock band and they were playing a concert at school which was 9th and 10th grade. My other brother was in the jr high which was 7th and 8th. He wanted to hear the concert so my mom (yes. She could be cool!) wrote him a note to leave school for a dentist appt. But he got caught anyway! Lol! Then my brothers band dedicated the song “Smoking in the Boys’ Room” to the principal! It was an awesome time! The clothes were the coolest!!

@@ritadyer9295 The high school I went too, they didn't allow any smoking on campus at the time. Unfortunately, I was a regular smoker back then, so many of us used to huddle together and light up hoping school security wouldn't see us. I did get caught once and got suspended for one day. I quit smoking one year after I graduated and never went back. That's funny about your brother. Your mom sounds like my mom. 😄

This video brings back some memories. I truly loved my childhood in the 70s. My father loved his bell bottoms a d my mother used to wear these clogs that made noise everywhere she went😄. What I loved most was the free spirit of that decade. People weren’t so stressed like today. Kids had more freedom. During the late 70s and the 80s I could leave with my bike in the morning and return in the evening and nobody worried. Nowadays children can’t even leave their driveway or their parents get frantic. Times have surely changed and not for the better.

Painter pants, 'earth shoes' and turtle necks were my middle school 'uniform'. Paisley polyester wide collar button ups were a big hit with the super cool dudes. I remember a cousin visiting us in mid 1970s and she was desperate to find slim ankle jeans. Boot cut was narrow as we could find which was a no go for her. Definitely rebellion against bell bottoms. Along with the very short shorts for running (brothers wore them) were white with top stripe knee high tube socks. You mentioned that in another video. Pant suits were popular for little girls too.

I’m late to the party, but I was Teen through the 70’s. Although they weren’t care free War, inflation, riots, energy crisis, they were not as scary and dangerous as today imo. Do you remember toe beads that looked like you were wearing sandals but you were bare footed. Did you split your jeans down the seam from the bottom to the knee and sew cool fabric in a triangle shape to make your bells bigger, or your old western cut jeans bell bottom. Hip hugger jeans were cool. We use to take old jeans and make purses out of them. Pheasant tops , CPO jackets, desert boots. Going to live concerts of our favorite bands almost every weekend, it didn’t cost so much as today. I’ve seen Moody Blues , ELO, Rod Stewart, BTO to just name a couple. Stadium seating was out lawed after some kids were injured and killed when a large crowed rushed the door. I think it was in the early 80’s ? Some schools had smoking rooms for the kids you had to be 16. Back then smoking wasn’t harmful lol. My doctors smoked sometimes while writing down their doctor stuff! When I was a child doctors still made house calls. I miss the 70’s because it was safer, not so complicated, and as Americans we were much more together in almost everything. Stores still closed on Sundays and no alcohol sales on Sundays either. 😮😊

I was a kid in the 70s and had many tube and halter tops. I also had a few tube top sundresses. I don't think I could have gotten through the hot summers without them. I also had clogs and the mood ring. That picture of Linda Carter in the wrap dress...she is so beautiful!

I totally agree!! I was fortunate enough to be born into August of 1970& I have nothing but wonderful memories & absolutely love & miss the music& the fashionable outfits! My Mom always made sure I was dressed very well & kept me up with the trends...even as a kid....like I had any clue what was up with popular looks then!😄.. but looking back I'm very grateful she made the effort & cared if I looked nice. The clothes were fun in the 70's! Great music too! Nothing better to hear songs from back then.... Ambrosia, Heart, Atlanta Rythym Section, Firefall, Styx,Pablo Cruise, Little River Band, Diana Ross, Guess Who, Eagles, Elton John! Too many to count! Great childhood experiences & memories 😇. God Bless us, Everyone!!🙏

I graduated from high school in 1973...the midi skirts, to the middle of the calf, were very popular, the guys always wore jeans,,,t-shirts, some times regular shirts. In the 60s,,go-go boots were ankle high and they weren't called go-go boots [n the 70s. we wore mostly leather platforms and sandles... the glitter was more disco style in the mid- late 70s! It was a crazy time to be young, but fun!!

I loved everything about the 70s! I loved corduroy pants/skirts, tie-dye shirts, bell bottoms, etc. I seem to remember overalls being popular then also, but maybe that just depended on where you lived. I had the same orange Sunkist shirt that’s on the thumbnail! I wasn’t a fan of jumpsuits because they were hard to get out of to go to the bathroom! I had medium sized platform shoes….not the huge ones the bands and models wore, and I did have a pair of clogs that I loved. Thanks for the memories!

I remember in the 70's when I was a young guy in my 20's I had a bad sunburn and wore a tank top to work at AT&T. I was told it was inappropriate and I had to put on a shirt , or go home. The manager of the department had several girls wearing Halter tops, but he didn't mind that ! (Especially since he was dating one) ! I went over his head and went to HIS BOSS who told him if he wanted ME to either change , or go home then he would have to ask all the girls wearing halter tops to DO THE SAME ! Needless to say, I never changed, or went home ! YAY for MEN'S RIGHTS !

I bought my denim and corduroy jeans at The GAP. Back then they only sold Levi's labeled clothes. Most of us had "desert boots", gum soled swede leather with laces. And on top usually a cool T-shirt (many times from a T-shirt shop with an iron-on picture on it) under an unbuttoned flannel shirt, sleeves rolled up to elbow. For a while we wore leather belt buckles with a nature picture painted on them. To all my fellow old farts out there...Keep on Truckin' !
