Very interesting! Ten+ years of learning how to control bad days of RA, I had no idea about Psoriatic arthritis. Thank you for educating us about the difference…

When I first went to a new pharmacy to order Cosentyx, the pharmacist assumed I had RA, but actually I have Psoriatic Arthritis. She said it was because most of their patients on Cosentyx were taking it to treat RA. Knowing that Cosentyx has fewer side effects with none of the scary ones listed like Humira does (I was on it previously for 5 yrs), I mention I was glad to hear this news because my son has RA and I could tell him to ask his Rheumatologist if he could switch to Cosentyx. Then the pharmacist told me it had not been approved yet for RA yet; therefore, RA patients are prescribed Cosentyx "off-label" which means most insurance companies will NOT cover it which stinks. I'd like to know if you ever prescribe Cosentyx off-label to RA patients and if so, do they tend to do just as well on it as those on Humira. Why hasn't Cosentyx been approved yet to treat RA? IMO Cosentyx works much better than Humira. For one thing I rarely have back pain anymore, and it's never as bad as when I was on Humira, which is such a blessing. Also, since being on Cosentyx I rarely have any IBS episodes. Here's hoping you are one of the doctors out here that actually reads and answers replies... fingers crossed. :)

I am not a doctor, just someone dealing with PsA/RA and who has been learning as much as I can! In clinical trials measuring efficacy for Cosentyx when treating patients with RA, the patients on average did not improve as much as they did when using existing second line treatments for RA. All of these drugs are expensive and insurance doesn't want to pay thousands of dollars for a treatment that is less likely to help you than other (still expensive) existing options. It did however work great for PsA! There's no way to know for sure why at your pharmacy they are seeing it prescribed off-label for RA so often. Could be availability (if your area is having trouble sourcing other traditional biologics for RA), could be doctors who are misinformed about what is approved for RA, could be that a doctor has a list of patients who can't tolerate traditional biologics and recently learned Cosentyx may help and is having them try it out, or unfortunately a doctor might be getting a kickback from the pharmaceutical company for prescribing it. Or finally it could be prescribed for patients like me where the doctor isn't 100% sure if I have RA or PsA and they are using the patient's response to treatment as a way to further support either diagnosis! My doc doesn't want to put me on Otezla because if they're wrong and it's RA it's not likely to help me much and that's $$$ for nothing. Something like Cosentyx would most likely provide at least some benefit even if it's RA, and we could switch later if it's not controlling the inflammation enough. Or if it works perfectly, that supports PsA diagnosis. Always discuss your treatment for yourself and your son (assuming he's under 18 lol) with the rheumatologist because they know you best and they can better explain why they are recommending X drug over Y or why Cosentyx works great for you and less so for your son!

These are my symptoms: Skin rashes typical of Psoriasis, on my lover arms and lower legs Toe and finger nails that look dry, pitted, thick and lifted Dropped Right food Missing knee jerk reflex on my left leg Unable to push up on left leg from squat position or when lying flat on my back Left thigh, left knee, both legs below the knee, including feet, hurt, and are swollen If I sit motionless pain goes away. The moment I move, it comes back Nights are the worst. Although all the swelling goes down, pain is the worst. Morning are horrendous. Especially getting out of bed. I don't take and pain meds since they all have bad side effects. I have seen army of doctors and specialist, and had every test and procedure done, no diagnosis yet. Nerve conductivity tests revealed some axonal nerve damage in left leg. I've been taking mega doses of vitamin B12. Every new day is the worse than the day before. Quality of life is zero...

Could you also address heart inflammation in PSA? I had a rheumatologist tell me that heart inflammation is an issue and without biologics the average patient dies 15 years earlier. I’m 70 and went off all meds 4 years ago. Humira/Enbrel gave me drug induced lupus.

I've been fighting all these pains, lumps and muscle spasms in what Dr's call a flare up of what still to be determined for 8 months now. My inflammation of my head is now causing numbness and burning too so might be MS called smoldering brain? But then after Brain MRI they took neck x-rays and said my neck has severe arthritis that may cause head inflammation? So now going to spine clinic too but still not sure what type of arthritis but do have osteoporosis so on meds for that...nothing for this incredible pain...I think we need a rheumatologist to get the help and diagnosis we need? Good luck🙏🏻

Do you recommend the use of only one or two of these supplements at a time, or, if we choose, can we take multiple supplements together without harm? Does taking multiple supplements at a time increase the possibility of a good outcome, or is taking one supplement sufficient?

If a person tests positive for RF as a high normal level and CCP / CRP positive but within normal level does this count as sero positive or sero negative in a person with active symptoms and a positive clinical presentation on examination? Or would this be early RA picture? Thank you for sharing your expertise on this chanel 😊
