Thank you for this tutorial. Please can you go over how the hollowing process is done, especially the "offset surface" section. My "cut ring" and the "uncut ring" always give me an intersection or blending effect. Yours shows a clear difference between the two after the Offset Surface. Thank you.

Hi. Glad you're enjoying the tutorial. Sorry you're having an issue with it. There are three things that come to mind. (1) Did you offset the base shape or the ring? You should offset the base shape, not the ring. (2) Did you use an offset distance of 0.8mm? If your offset distance is too small, it can give that "blending" effect. (3) When you first created the new file, did you select the Small Objects - Millimeters template? If not, that might the root of the problem. So, hopefully, that helps, but if not, let me know.

Thank you so much. your tutorials has been very helpful in learning Rhino. I did have a question, for the wirecut for the cutters section -- what could be the reason mine isnt cutting the "cutters' section? its not removing the red part for me for some reason.

I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Here are some tips that might help: 1. Make sure the cutting lines extend outside of the object you are trying to cut (at least when viewed from the Right viewport) 2. Make sure that the Right Viewport is the active viewport before clicking on the WireCut tool. 3. After clicking on the WireCut tool, look up in the command line and make sure that "Direction" is set to either "NormalToCurve" or "X" (either should work, but generally you will want "NormalToCurve") If it still doesn't work for you, let me know.

Hello, I cannot fillet the cutting oject. When I try, the fillet edges extend beyond the object extents, and the surfaces aren't trimmed according to the new fillets. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks!

No, fillets will often do that. You've probably done something slightly different than I did (not wrong, just different). Maybe some edges line up differently. OR you might be using an older version of rhino. Rhino 7 does fillets better than the older versions. Whenever this happens, the first thing I do is try a slightly smaller fillet. @@Dshdshds I can't find the file on my PC, but I took a screen shot from the video and it looks like the radius is about 0.5mm. But you can actually put whatever radius you think looks good.

Could not cut the red layer, when I select it, in the command I see "1 open polysurface added to selection" but in your video when you do appears "1 closed polysurface added to selection". I don't know if is that the problem.

Yes, that is probably the problem. Sometimes you can do explode and rejoin it to solve that issue. Select the object and type explode in the command line. After the object is exploded and while all the pieces are still selected, type join in the command line. If that doesn't work, I would isolate the object (select the object, then go to the visibility tab and click on "isolate objects"), then - with the object selected - in the menus at the top menu bar choose "Analyze > Edge Tools > Show Edges." You will get a little pop-up window. Make sure that it is set to "Naked Edges." This should highlight the places that are not closed. Also, in the command line, you should see a message telling you how many naked edges there are. You might be able to figure it out from there , but, if not, take a screen shot and save it, and then send it to me. Are you on twitter?
