I always thought Ric was the only singer when I was a kid. I only discovered later, as with many others, that Benjamin Orr sang half of the Cars most popular songs like "Let's Go," "Just What I Needed," "Candy-O," "Bye-Bye Love," "Moving in Stereo," and "Drive." This is why I didn't know Ben Orr sang half the Car songs because all of the official videos shown on MTV or VH1 only featured Ric. Benjamin was always in the background. There were no official MTV videos with Benjamin singing. Except for "Drive." but if you notice, even in the Drive video, Benjamin is in the dark, and Ric is all lit up and in color. All the videos on KZbin of Benjamin singing are the live performances.

In the 1985 I was 18 years old working at the mailroom of Saint Vincents medical center in Manhattan moving mail between buildings. I would regularly see Rick Ocasek and Susan Gallagher walking together or sometimes each of them alone. I always said hi to them and they were always nice to me. This song was featured VERY heavily in the series BrainDead, at least in the first episode (which I just finished on dvd). It's part of a heavy clue that the people that are BrainDead, think alike, so they all like this song, and play it and seemingly nothing else. As that series made in 2016, is partly about a retro song, this video is a retro video, showing a lot of retro references.

This was played every 5 minutes on the radio and MTV back in the day. I got so tired of it that I couldn't appreciate how truly great it is. Now I can appreciate it more!

Just get burnt out on it ya know. I remember when this premiered on MTV. It's entertaining the first idk 10 times you see it but once you get to around the 150th time in a two week period that's a bit much. They did this all the time with the premiere videos and radio stations. About once an hour they'd show the video or play the song.

My college girlfriend and I decided to "bug out" from our studies at UT for a couple of days just to relax a bit. So we drove down to Beaufort, SC. Ended up in a bit of a "seedy" motel, but it was all I could afford. It did, however, have MTV. And we saw this video and thought it was amazing. We were mesmerized. I'll never forget that. We ran out of money and I used my debit card at a local bank for the first time to get some more cash. Using a debit card to get cash was a new thing back then. I was amazed at how easy it was! Anyway, my girlfriend became my wife a few months thereafter. We've been together for 36 years and have raised three wonderful children, all of whom that have graduated from UT like we did.

On days when I'm having trouble getting out of bed, this is one of my go-to wakeup songs! 😊🎵🎶🎵 It along with "Magic" bring back wonderful childhood memories of summer vacations to visit family in Texas, as it was regularly played on the radio stations (through my wee Walkman headphones) over the 600 mile car trip. The musical creativity of those days was indeed unlike any other in history. 💜

@@aishamarquez211 , unfortunately, I actually don’t work anymore due to health issues that continually worsened after a car incident with injury in 2010. I managed to work four additional years afterwards before pain & debilitating sleep disorder totally stole life as I’d known it prior & I became physically disabled. Not sure why someone not working would be funny? 🤔 It’s definitely not the life I would have chosen, but I try to stay positive nonetheless. 😉👍

Every teenager thinks there time was the best but the 80s were no doubt a very special time even though I went metal by the mid 80s I started out with The Cars.
