For everyone way too young to remember, the line about 'Not even Isis can help him' has nothing to do with the terrorist organization. It's from a short-lived superhero TV show, 'Isis,' which ran from 1975-1976. At a crucial moment, the female lead (a mild-mannered school teacher) would put on an amulet and call on Isis, 'O, mighty Isis' and then the super-powers would kick in. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4rQk6doh7ukeck

Lots of contemporary psychobabble to describe and excuse character motivation now, but l'm willing to bet that back in the 70s the writers still often relied on sight gags to amuse and entertain audiences. The 70s definitely were about self-awareness, but people still knew how to have fun and refrain from being so 'uptight.' You can analyze anything to death and lose its sparkle.

I always found it interesting that they worked in two of these characters into the same show - Nick Lobo and Johnny Venture. Kinda gave it a Disney element you might say? I know one of the reasons people don't like "Rhoda" was because of them. The actors who played them were so good that I was always able to look past the sometimes corny storylines involving them. Richard Masur was a really good actor, and versatile. Michael Delano, I don't think I have ever seen in anything else.
