I have been a cabinet and furniture maker for 35 years. I love to watch other woodworkers the Japanese are some of the best, but you are by far the best furniture maker I've ever seen. Watching you actually makes me tear up with joy. No joke.
@idontthinkso6663 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, and I’ll add that I almost tear up, but with frustration. Frustration that, although I’ve been making furniture and doing interior trim for 30 years, I will never been half as good as this guy. I’d be scared to help him, to just install the hinges, or adjust the fit of a door or drawer, for fear of making a mistake and ruining a masterpiece. Many of us can get good at one thing over a lifetime: maybe casework, or carving, or turning, or finishing. How does one guy (such a YOUNG guy!) get to be so great at everything?

This is magical! Dude, you must've been reincarnated every 60-80 years for the passed 600-800 years to have gathered this much skill and surgical precision. I'm totally blown away by these things you are able to do. Shame you don't talk much and share your thoughts from time to time as doing so would be a wonderful kind thing to do.

This work is my benchmark for what mastery looks like. I bet I’ve watched these videos 100 times. The carving and curves are probably the next steps in my development as a furniture maker. One day, I’d like to say I made just one piece that looks a little like the furniture this man makes every time.

Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves kzbin.infoUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

I have a small 30 inch three drawer block front chest made in Boston around 1870. It's the sweetest little hunk of Honduras mahogany. I bought it because it just fit between two windows in my living room. I know the form was used by other cabinetmakers but I think the Goddard-Townsend workshops perfected it!

Been coming back to D&W videos for years and I always come away learning something a new technique that I can incorporate. We all appreciate the time and effort that goes in to making furniture of this caliber, not to mention the time it takes to film and edit the video. Is anyone able to identify the make and model of the combination jointer/planer? Having a jointer table of that width looks hugely beneficial for large projects like this.

Incredible... And the workmanship/craftsmanship is exquisite too. ;-) Seriously, it must have been an honor to work with such incredibly rare and expensive pieces of wood. That mahogany has a luster and subtle grain expression that just blends so beautifully with the work you did on it.... Tiger maple for lowly drawer slides, etc???! Wow. Dare a mere mortal ask how many hours you put into this masterpiece, and what your remuneration is for a piece of such prestige? Thanks for taking the time to make the video and share it with us.

I can’t decide whether the wood or the craftsmanship is more stunning. They compliment each other perfectly. Your work honors and respects that beautiful wood. And the wood is the perfect medium for showcasing your skills and the design. All of your videos show the trilogy of reverence for the wood, design and craftsmanship. I think that your videos are a master class for other hand tool woodworkers like myself. They demonstrate techniques and document the construction of pieces that will be valued for centuries. The videos and your work will be admired and studied One question though, I don’t recognize the plane you use for smoothing, looked like a three sided shooting plane?
