Rhode Island Ultralight Atlantic Salmon - Jan 2023

First time trying these Rhode Island trout waters went well.. The Atlantic Salmon stocked by the state were fair size and provided decent action for a meager January day. Little kietech caught 2 and kastmaster caught 3, while the plug got 0.

@@ChrisMcIntee Yea, the only freshwater fish that I actually caught and eat was snakehead & channel catfish, southwest of NJ. The catfish was the worst, like rubbery. Snakehead was good but not everyone gonna like. Might be too firm to be a fish meat.

Ive eaten freshwater trout/salmon in the past and just didnt like it. Tend to enjoy saltwater fish a lot more.

I agree w Chris; they are not fantastic, definitely edible. I find them best smoked. Same for stocked trout. Rarely take them.

Your January looks like our March; here In Vermont there's About 2 foot of snow and 18" of ice on the lake - Intersting to see the difference - At least you can get out and open water fish!

just went another day for Atlantic salmon on kayak in NJ...had to break shore ice (little) - surprisingly I was not the only guy on kayak! they (salmon) were so aggressive on surface. As you said - tried to make out of "hopeless winter day" - keep it coming!

@@zizosheriff8466 open NJ state fishing page - they list names of water bodies, number of fish stocked each year. There are about 3 or 4 (don’t remember) places stocked with Atlantic landlocked salmon. Fish comes from Massachusetts I believe. All Public info online.

I didnt enjoy the trout or freshwater salmon I kept and ate in the past.. in general I dont eat any freshwater fish.. spoiled as saltwater fish tend to be much tastier
