@Dennis The Red Menace please don’t take this the wrong way, I don’t mean to be combative. as a modern marxist/socialist/communist, what is your view on the nearly 100 million people that were directly and indirectly killed by those ideologies? I am quite neutral and am genuinely curious to know.
@Oddn7751
@Oddn7751 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ginnpis I'm not a communist or marxist(very much against it), but when critiquing ideologies I think it's better to look at their actual writings, and not how tyrannical dictators took advantage of their ideas. There's a genuine argument to be made that these weren't "real communists". It's way more productive and good faith to concede that when discussing the topic
@Ginnpis
@Ginnpis 2 жыл бұрын
@@Oddn7751 I can agree with that sentiment, one time ok, two times a coincidence, but damn near every single regime/nation that has adopted it has lead to disaster? Maybe, just maybe something in those writings that put those ideas in their heads. And if there is an argument to be made that none of them were “true communist”, is true communism even humanly possible to achieve? Id say human nature is a not in favor of that. If you were say aloud your were a proud fascist, you would be shamed. But now communism, Marxism, and socialism are taught and actively encouraged as a good thing in schools in the west. We don’t say h**ler and Mussolini were just a couple bad eggs that gave fascism a bad name, no! Fascism is almost universally hated and agreed that it is inherently flawed and caused these men to take the actions they made, so why is there a double standard for communism? I am not trying to argue with you, what you say is very sensible and intelligent and clearly you know more than I do on the subject. I just wanted to vent my frustration on how you have to walk on eggs shells to discuss something that is so clear to see if you have lived in a once communist country like I have.

@omendium2918

You may have seen a Rhodesian banner because the person who owned that boat could very well have lived in Rhodesia, in 2001 Robert Mugabe evicted all White-Rhodesians from the now known country of Zimbabwe (used to be Rhodesia obviously) but yeah, a lot of white Rhodesians left for South Africa, others left for England and the United States, and by the sounds of it some could have very well left for Greece too

@@Fly_96 But you were relating African history to Black History Month, and the only reason you should feel sorry for the whites in Africa is the constant oppression against them. I live in South Africa and I am white and it's absolutely bonkers how unfair it is, and it drives me mad how people just look over the constant discrimination and mistreatment by our own government and stuff. Last year we were forced to give our private land to a local tribe family because we were apparently "stealing" their forefather's ground, even though that tribe has origins in Kwazulu Natal and had no relations to the ground whatsoever. White farmers have the constant fear of getting them and their families murdered when they are on their properties, worst of all the convicted murderers usually don't serve a lot of time for their crimes.

South Africa and Rhodesia were the most powerful countries in the region. However, the Portuguese colonies of Angola and Mozambique deserve to be more well known. The former had a white population of 280,000 in 1970 -a larger European population than Rhodesia-whereas Mozambique’s white population in 1970 numbered 163,000. (The figures are taken from Claudia Castelo's book, Passagens para Africa). Most Rhodesians never went to Angola but Mozambique was a popular holiday destination and the majority of Rhodesians who spent time there did so at Beira, the country’s second most important city. However, it was well worth heading down to the capital Lourenco Marques (which incidentally attracted many South African holidaymakers), and was one of the finest cities in Africa. Was Rhodesia a perfect nation? Of course not. It was racially segregated and native Africans were not allowed to participate in government. But with the benefit of hindsight, we can see that Zimbabwe would have been better off if Rhodesia stayed

It's surprisingly common in anti colonial nationalist songs, I hear it a lot in Irish rebel songs too. Oh, there's a lot of upbeat or violent sounding ones, but this soft tone is entirely too common for the subject matter and I love it. It's also present in older Soviet/Bolshevik war songs/revolution songs, I don't like it in those as much but then I've never liked softer Russian music in general, the Soviet anthem is about as slow and soft as I'll tolerate, so.
