Who invented the Rhogam shot? I would think the person who invented this treatment would want recognition for saving so many Rh positive babies lives.

Thank you! That was super clear AND interesting (especially the tidbit about the inmates/72 hour rule)

If your first child is RH negative Rhogam would not have been necessary after the birth of that child. It is still standard to give Rhogam at around 28 weeks even if you had a dose in the first trimester. I would guess the Rhogam was somehow missed at 28 weeks but deemed not needed after your child was born (assuming the baby was Rh negative). The fact that you received Rhogam with this pregnancy tells me that you did not sensitize (have a problem) from the first child.

If your doctor will not listen you need to find a new doctor that is more attentive. I do not know of any situation in which Rh sensitization would give you systemic systems. In other words, not getting the Rhogam shot should not make you feel bad. Certainly the symptoms that you are experiencing are important and should be evaluated. I just do not think they are caused by the Rh issues.

If your baby is Rh negative you do not need a Rhogam shot after delivery. I would guess this is why you did not receive one. Even if you did get sensitized (and I doubt you did), you would have no symptoms. The problems that you are experiencing have nothing to do with the Rhogam or your blood type. I would make an appointment to see your family doctor. Your family doctor will listen carefully to what you are experiencing, examine you, and order the appropriate tests to help you.

How do you care for a pregnant woman who has been sensitized?

I was born in 1974 the fourth child of an Rh negative mom… Her naturopath doctor convinced her to not get the shot I was born with severe jaundice and other health issues. Where can I find information about possible lifelong effects and autoimmune diseases connected to this?

I'm confused. In my first pregnancy, I had a lot of spotting in the first trimester. At about 9 wks- my ob gave me a shot of Rhogam (after bloodwork) because she said she thought I might lose the pregnancy. Turns out I didn't lose the pregnancy- but i never got Rhogam again in the pregnancy, and I didn't get the shot after birth as well. I'm pregnant again now and I got rhogam at 29 weeks- as you said, and they said I would get it again after birth. Don't know what to make of 1st pregnancy?!

I had the shot with my son 11 months ago I'm expecting again so do I need the shot again?
@DeadlyCyanide17 жыл бұрын
Tara Shaver yes. you always need the shot for every pregnancy. once the baby is born if the baby has the negative blood type you are good but if the baby is positive you will get the shot again. but when it comes to being pregnant you will always get it at the begining every time.

Honey, I know this might be painful to hear but idk if you should continue to get pregnant with your husband's offspring. I'm saying this as someone who has type O negative blood and am in my first pregnancy, potentially facing the same problems. If you have built up antibodies to RH positive blood and especially if your husband is O +/+, and not O +/-, you will more than likely continue to lose the babies. But, if it is some other medical condition causing these things to happen, you may be fine further down the road. You need to see a specialist and possibly a geneticist. The first test I would get done is a simple blood test to test for RH antibodies, which are called Anti-D. And then I would get your husband's blood typed to see if he is O positive with a negative allele. If he has a negative allele you may be able to conceive an RH negative fetus but this would mean that you would continue to lose all your RH positive offspring until you got pregnant with an RH negative fetus. RH negativity is a recessive trait so you may end up losing many more children. I think there is only a 30% chance of your baby being recessive. If you get the RH antibodies test and you don't have antibodies I would see a geneticist who could identify why this might be happening. I feel for you. I really do. I am in a situation in which I was given Rhogam without an antibodies test in early pregnancy as a precaution because I had some bleeding and now I am waiting for it to wear off to see if I have antibodies. Apparently the antibodies test can come back positive if you've already been given Rhogam. My husband is A positive.

MissPenguin Hello there👋 Im hoping your delivery went well:) Im 30 week now ive had the same bumps but have been using this stuff called bag balm and it actually got better. I'm guessing dryness? Did you figure out what yours were from?

MissPenguin try witch hazel for bad itching. Some women have severe itching from hormonal changes and the skin stretching!
