Was hoping to try out new ascenders and go through from Rhosydd into Croesor mine next door and over a few bridges. The rope was so tight and bolted at bottom it was impossible to abseil. (Rigged for ascending, not really descending) Learnt my lesson.🙄. Next time bring my own rope 😂

Hi Chris, we were in Rhosydd yesterday 18/11/24. At 22.37 sec, you hop over the gap and see a glimpse of daylight from the West Twll. We got to this spot but it seemed we couldn't get any further, it was when I re watched this video last night at home, you evidently walked up the rubble to the next level. I have an excellent book ' Rhosydd Slate Quarry ' written by M.J.Lewis & J.H Denton, which we refer to as well as your videos. The info in the book and your superb videos made the visit top drawer. We had a quick look in Conglog on the way back down, but darkness was fast approaching so will have to look for one of your videos. I notice in the comments you don't mind accompanying others down into the mines, we (my mate and I ) have done a couple of trips down Maenofferen and would like to go with someone knowledgeable. Even after watching your trips, there's must be loads of stuff we miss, when from memory trying to follow in your footsteps. We fully understand if you no longer have 'hangers on '. Regards, Ben.

You climb up the waste tip, there's rough path a bit further up which takes you to west twll. At West twll you cross the broken bridge, carry on through 2 chambers until you get to a chamber where you can't go no further, in this chamber you will see rough path down tip, go down until slate waste steps down, then head across to your left. Here is gsp to squeeze through, go through 2 chambers and climb up waste again you will get to different level with hobnail boots and artifacts, head right over small fall looking for tunnel, here you will get to another incline where at top is big pulley or at bottom of incline carry on further until you see manway down, this will get you yo Croesor mine, but from there on you need abseiling gear and ascenders. I really don't mind taking people underground, it saves me going alone, do just get in touch

What a trip Chris. I find it hard to believe you do all this on your own . What safety measures do you use. If it wasn't for guys like you Mr Average wouldn't see what is down there . Amazing stuff thank you so much Chris . Stay safe and look forward to more visits.

To be honest, I don't use any safety measures 🙈😂. I'm just well experienced, been doing it for years, so know my way around slate mines and metal mines quite well. I'll rig myself to ropes if going to be doing something dangerous, but all in all the only accident I've had is fractured ribs after slipping in snow covered slate 🙈

Yes, this is one of my favourite mines. Seeing the pulley on top of the incline with the timber platforms still in place is amazing. You can go through this mine and come out of the mine next door

I explored Conglog last year, my first solo trip, found it fascinating, hope to explore Rhosydd in April, nothing too dodgy just a wee explore, there's something very special about these places, especially alone, although I'm well aware of the risks involved.

Hi do you ever do trips into rhosydd mine. I went in there when I was 14 years old with a school group back in 1988. I remember the huge cavern off the main tunnel. Would love go back in there one day.

@@shonkytours2039 If I got in contact sometime would you mind taking me in rhosydd mine. I would love go in to look at some chambers but bit worried doing it by myself. I went in there last at 14 years old. Very long time ago. Parts of it were unsafe back then. Alot of lower flooded levels. I remember the entrance had barbed wire over it. It was flooded the main tunnel, walked down it for ages an ages. Then came to huge cavern on left hand side. It would mean alot to me to go back in there.

I love your vids. Always watch them. I was at st davids college llandudno back in the 80s 4 years an also went to eirias for one year at 12 years old. Lived at colwyn bay. Rhosydd mine is brilliant. Would love go back in there but darnt go it alone. Is most of main bits of the mine fairly safe like main tunnel adit 9. I remember at 14 yrs old with a group my age clambering up steep hills to get to the mine in the rain. Once in there a long trip down adit 9 in water. Caverns to the left huge. I remember where it forks off left an right but vague memories after that. Some flooded shafts with blue ish water very deep, an a deep lake. We had crawl under a gap known as cheese press in rhosydd then over a large drop cables an harness to explore chambers over the other side. Eventually to get out we climbed up old slate heap, an out in the open. I think that must have been west twill. I'll contact you one day if we could have a little walk in there.
