Rhyolite, Nevada - Ghost Town

The ghost town of Rhyolite is located in the Bullfrog Hills, about 120 miles (190 km) northwest of Las Vegas, near the eastern boundary of Death Valley National Park. The town sprang up quickly during the gold rush in 1905 but declined just as rapidly once the ore was exhausted. By 1910, the mine was operating at a loss and closed by 1911. In 1916, the lights and power were finally turned off in town, but you can still find some parts of the bank building, old jail, train depot, and the bottle house in the area.
