The Spanish-style building (in fenced in area) was originally the train depot. At one time, three different railroad companies came into Rhyolite. In the 1930s, the old depot became a casino and bar, and later it became a small museum and souvenir shop that stayed open into the 1970s. In its heyday, (1905 through 1910) Rhyolite had three train lines, three newspapers, three swimming pools, three hospitals, two undertakers, an opera, and symphony and 53 saloons. By 1914, Rhyolite was in decline and by 1919, it was a deserted ghost town. Its last resident died in 1924... Another awesome video Michael and Jessica. Happy Halloween!

I love watching videos from this lovely couple, I live alone except for my cat in a tiny flat in the uk after breaking up with my x partner 4 years ago after a 26 year relationship when she cheated and left me for the guy she cheet with i went into extreme depression then 8 monthes later my mum was told she had cancer asked me to care for her at home and she passed away 4 monthes later ,these events had a truly massive effect on my life i don't have a TV because I don't want one so KZbin provides me with all my entertainment ,I'm subscribed to a few channels, some trucking channels, and some where people visit places that I'll never see and learn about, this channel is my favourite, it takes me away for a while, I love that there is a male and female couple as the other I'm subscribed to is just a guy ,and the places they visit captures my interest, my personal favourite so far is THE LOST BOYS movie locations, this takes me back to my teens when life seemed much better 😀

The concept of draping blankets of plaster cement (or whatever it is) over subjects to create ghost statues is absolutely brilliant. It doesn't look difficult to do, but the result has endless possibilities.

Cool place. Been there quite some time ago. Used to live in San Diego and on one of my trips to Vegas I ran up to Rhyolite. Saw those statues and the ghost like figures on bikes. Also the bottle house. Jim Morrison said it the best, “The West is the best, get here and we’ll do the rest”. Sure miss the West. Now in SWFL and it sux compared to the West Coast. lol

I drive through Beatty at least two times a week. I'm a career truck driver, hauled hazardous waste for the last 25 years. In Beatty, those donkeys will walk right up to you. They're very very friendly, especially if you have food. LOL. Another great video. Stay weird!

Btw just did a bit of research rhyolite is on the eastern boundary of death valley. Its also called rhyolite because of high deposits of rhyolite found in quarries there. Also the art gallery museum building is only used for special occasions this whole art exhibit is called. Goldwell open air museum. Another fun fact all the ghostly models were done by dropping wet burlap covered in plaster over live models till it dried in a position that could be firm enough to finish drying on its own

I made "Statues" like these a few years ago (two of them) for a home haunt. I dipped bed sheets in thinned down plaster, draped them over mannequins I set up in the sun and let them dry hard. For an extra scare at night I installed a speaker with glowing lights in them that would come on when people approached them. The yuks (from me) were non stop.

The spooky song at the beginning is called “The Body,” by Karl Casey for anyone else who is curious. SO many cool shots, Michael. It’s like a ghostly amusement park for adults! I’m guessing the graves were dug shallow. How hard would it be to dig a hole there?

You guys are doing what I want to do. I love exploring. I love the desert. It has a life all its own. Beatty is one of my favorite places in Nevada. I've been through it many times. It's an oasis. It's grown a lot in the last 20 years. I was traveling with my mom to Kingman, AZ in 1997. She lived there. We were in separate cars. We stopped in Beatty to eat. It had one casino then. I asked mom what all the "ranches" were out in the desert and what could they possibly raise in the hot climate. They were scattered all over the desert. Small communities of trailers. Mom told me, "Judy, those are whore houses." I was shocked! Another excellent video. I'm right there with you! Thanks so much.
