Ok I did not mean to just randomly stop uploading daily right before 5-X oops, if you were anticipating this and I had shut your hype down I am sorry. This one needed some extra edits to reduce cutscenes which I just got round to now.
Composer's notes from fizzd:
This one was tough for a few reasons:
- The level 2-X All The Times exists, so now I needed to make something that could live up to its reputation. That's on everyone of course beyond the music itself, but the music in RD dictates the amount of canvas I'm able to provide to people like Jenny and Morph to work with for their VFX.
- All the other boss battles exist. I wanted 5-X to be something whose structure and gameplay would feel different to all of them.
- This was the first boss level where it had so much story to tell to wrap up a character arc. With the other boss levels, I wrote almost all of them as self-contained stories before I figured the other levels in the act, and then let Kyle flesh it out with all the cutscenes to make it work. (Fun fact, 3-X One Shift More was literally where the characters of Paige and Ian and the Stevensons and Richard Hugh were all born. I had no idea when writing it that Paige/Ian would end up the game's main characters. It was just a "ooo doctors but Les Mis musical, wouldn't that be cool.." cause Winston (artist) and I acted in a student version of it before)
- But for this one we had a general character arc of Lucky already started on by Kyle, and we had a lot of ground to cover in 5-X to finish it.
So, to solve all these problems together, i needed some story/musical conclusion that would both be plausible for Lucky's arc, but also be able to use gameplay mechanics of that act in new-feeling ways.
The inspiration of making the resolution be "the whole hospital team comes together to learn baseball" was from a rock-climbing interview I saw a year ago, of a bouldering champion (Gavin Chiam) who had gone from competitive bouldering to coaching, and found that he was actually even happier seeing his students win than winning himself. That felt really suitable to RD's themes of friendship and relationships over work. • Pinch Of Salt Episode ...
So I pitched that to Kyle, he said ok we'll use that, and I struggled for months (and started and finished 5-1N etc) before finding the main melody and tempo that could work for the level.
Oops I havent started talking about the music and everyone's roles in it at all, and this is so long... I'll come back and add more on another day... Mardy, dvdfu, and Ash all did amazing work on the vocals/guitars/mixing, I'll leave it there for now. Thanks for reading!

I STARTED TEARING UP DURING THIS BOSS FIGHT IT WAS *SO* AWESOME It’s amazing how much you can feel for a character who sounded much like the politician from before. Every line of dialogue got me so invested in Lucky as a character.

This stage was the best audiovisual experience I had during this whole year, period. The team really went far and beyond on this stage not only with the song but with details like at the start of the stage the window moving clockwise to show the pass of time or Lucky going from the "player" sprite to the "patient" sprite to show that he finally accepted his situation and many others I probably missed. I can't personally thank you people enough for this update, wish I could buy this game twice on the same steam account, but buying it for my friends shall do the trick I hope.

From my experience with SFML (This game was on Unity so might have been easier), the thing with window stretching and moving wouldn't be hard. Maybe just a bit tedious with having to move the camera in a way that it would seamlessly stretch the window, but not necessarily hard. Essentially, in SFML terms, it's just changing the window size, window position, the view (camera) size and view position to create both stretching and moving. Though, really, does it matter whether it was hard or not? It was used in the most creative way ever, to make some of the best effects I've seen in a videogame, and that entire thing makes this game so unique compared to others

This game won every awards in my heart. Hardest rhythm game ever, most visually stunning VFX ever, most creative gameplay ever, best out-of-bounds experience ever, best original soundtrack ever, etc.. This song is really amazing. Sometimes it's energetic, while something could be emotional, something could be rough and scared but you know you need to be stable and calm. (especially with the first piano part in the first cutscene that is pretty emotional [I really love that part]). Felt like watching a movie overall. Really great song. Probably one of the most memorable level then, in terms of story and chart, plus emotion and music, and it's even powerful when you are involved in it instead of watching. Great job on this song and the levels.

This was a treat to experience with the window stretching. It really felt like an evolution to All the Times and I was loving it. Of course the song itself is great too. I ended up not skipping the last cutscene a few times while going for perfect so I can hear all of the lyrics at 4:53 in full. The way the music swells with it gets me pumped. Wonderful music, and probably my new favorite level!! When window started stretching a bit (2:00), I was like "huh, isn't it streching", and when it became freaking square, and then started to goo all over the place... maaan, I smiled sooooo much at this part :DD It was so wonderful to experience!! This is my favorite level in video games. I've been at it for thirteen years now, and even among Hi-Fi RUSH, HITMAN, or anything Valve has created, this was the best individual level in any game I've ever played. this level and song, as well as lucky's general story, really spoke to me as someone whose physical disability recently got to the point where i can't really function normally anymore. his fans not understanding really spoke to the outside perspectives people have when a disability invisible, and him accepting that things will be different, not worse but different, and finding something new to fulfill himself in coaching is really inspirational and gives me a lot of hope and determination to find good in a life that has changed irreparably and accept that i have new limitations

I was literally crying while playing this level. Felt like i've finished a great anime which has perfect story telling and perfect fight scenes. Biggest W in the game history. Thank you 7th Beat Games team ❤

ok the part with the error sound isnt in this because its apparently like really cool in that it plays the appropriate error sound effect for your os. like it plays the windows one on windows and the mac one on mac. but i can only find videos of it on windows though. so obviously it wouldnt pick one in the ost version. also apparently it's just sound files in the game, not actually playing the error sound off your computer, which makes sense because that'd probably be hell to port and probably be hinging on security problems and probably get the game flagged as billion viruses. idk what the point of this comment really was its just a cool thing
