I feel like what people aren't seeing the challenge in this is that it's *slowed down*. By this point in the game you're probably USED to the faster beats, so to go back to something slow is gonna take some getting used to again. Hell the guy who posted this probably had more 'almost's than he did the first version.

The main thing that throws people off about this one is that it's in a swing beat, whereas the original one was in a standard beat. That is, for Lockstep 1, the offbeats are exactly halfway between the onbeats, which is how most songs are like. In Lockstep 2, the offbeats are two-thirds between onbeats. Not only does this mean the timing is different for the offbeats, but you wait for two-thirds of a beat when switching from an onbeat to an offbeat and one-third of a beat switching from an offbeat to an onbeat. Something else I want to point out is that, besides the tempo and the swing beat, Lockstep 2 plays exactly like Lockstep 1. The switches always happen at the same moments proportional to their tempos. P.S. Swing beats are quite devious when they appear in rhythm games, and for that reason, they're very rare. To my knowledge, there is only one other stage in this entire series with a swing beat with inputs on the offbeats, which is the original GBA Rhythm Heaven's Cosmic Dance. (Double Date and Double Date 2 in Rhythm Heaven Fever also run on a swing beat, but the cues are always on onbeats.) And since Dance Dance Revolution is not programmed for triplets (where beats are divided into thirds rather than halves), I have never seen a song with a swing beat in that series.

I haven't plsayed this either, but I feel that I would've had trouble until I learned it was in a swing beat. I DID play Cosmic Dance in Rhythm Heaven Meagmix though, which was harder than Space Dance but not much harder.

It's not about the tempo, it's about the timing. Lockstep 1 splits each beat in half, but lockstep 2 splits each beat in triplets. So it goes like this: lockstep 1: x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xy-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-yx-x-x... lockstep 2: x--x--x--x--x--x--x--x-y--y--y--y--y--y--y--y--yx--x--x--...

Lockstep 2 is, in all honesty, the best Rhythm Heaven minigame period. Not only is Lockstep itself clever usage of the DS touchscreen to keep the little character in time, but you also have to hit both onbeat and offbeat. This is a useful skill on music. This specific version replaces offbeats with a swing tempo, which makes it a bit easier and a lot nicer to beginners and pros alike. As you play, you begin to feel those taps. Every single one. Because your arm will hurt. It definitely doesn't detract from this masterpiece however. The Lockstep 2 character is blue and white. This is a very pleasing to the eye color scheme. Blue can often symbolize feelings of inspiration and freedom. This is actually not so expertly touched upon because you are LOCKED into the same dance, but that is the genius. It is a lockstep. 2. 10/10

The song has swing, meaning the spacings between beats are not all the same. The switch from beat to off beat is quicker than the switch from off-beat to beat because of this. Listen to when the conductor goes "un-hah um-hah". that's both beats and off beats, you can hear the swing there.
