You have so many great options. It's not the worry of having the quadrants. Personally I like the quadrants the way they break things up for you. What you've done with the reversing loop, and not being seen to me is the best! It's so versatile with what it does. And the space that you have has allowed that. So many people can't do something like that. You thought this through, and this seems like another great opportunity to run trains the way you want to.

If you "round out" in front of the bridge scene, are you going to be able to reach into the back most bridge to clean track? FWIW, I agree with Jason, long yard leads can be great, but they don't have to be as long as the longest train, that makes it almost too easy, and indeed taking up a lot of space.

Generally speaking, most yards incorporate the arrival/departure tracks between the main track(s) and the yard body itself, with crossovers located in such places to enable trains to arrive/depart without ever interfering with yard operations. Then as time permits, yard crews can pull those trains back into the drill track and shove into the yard. Having mainline trains enter/exit through your drill tracks makes things easier and is done in the real world, but for the sake of just having a 30'+ drill track that ties into your mains on each end is just eating up way too much space imo. Less is more. Having operational restrictions and procedures your operators must follow is more realistic anyway. Simpler isn't always better.

Apparently, you DNT really know how the real world railroad operates. There are restrictions all over, for example when we come from Clovis and have to get to north yard from south yard in Amarillo we have to come through town and around the curve down main past north yard and shove into it. That's the only way from south yard, and that's just one example of restrictions in the real world. Oh, and shoving into the north yard is up hill, which makes it more fun.
