Why topside preheating as apposed to bottomside preheating? What are the pros and cons of topside vs bottomside preheating?

By creating a temperature delta, the top-side preheat "pulls" the solder up the PTH for better upflow. The heated nitrogen coming from the pot/pump assembly does the bottom pre-heating for heavy ground plane.
