RHYTHMIC JAZZ EXERCISES - Coordinate Left & Right Hand

We make a very useful rhythmic exercise for jazz improvisation. The exercise functions as a kind of ever going “motor”. The motor is based on some very simple ideas: we invent a piano "finger sequence" and we use a pentatonic "hand grip" and we make rhythm and phrases into a thrilling musical counterpoint!!!
Our exercise is fundamental in many ways, if we want to be free to express ourselves when improvising Music. In particular the exercise will make us strong when combining rhythm and phrases in a free manner.
Later on in the lesson we add the left hand chords to the exercise. The chords also make a thrilling counterpoint to the rhythm!!! With the "motor" exercise we automatically learn to put in the left hand chords on all the different sub beats just by following the patterns of the right hand phrases.
Then we make different tonal flavors by moving our pentatonic hand grip to different positions on the keys.
By the end of the lesson I inspire you to create and exercise your own favorite phrases and to add these to the “motor” - the opportunities to form your own Music are endless...
In these two lessons we use the "pentatonic hand grip" to improvise Jazz along with a backing track:
• 10 STEPS TO IMPROVISE ...
• 8 STEPS to IMPROVISE J...
In this other lesson we talk more about how to use the "pentatonic row” to play all the Church Modes (Major Modes) and we make a lot of right hand exercises with the pentatonic "hand grip": • How to IMPROVISE JAZZ ...
In this lesson we use only a 3 finger "hand grip" to improvise and to play all the Church Modes (Major Modes): • Simple PIANO EXERCISES...
This is the Music Video that I refer to in the start of the lesson above: • A Modern Impulsive Jaz...

I've been a teacher, not of music, for about 5 decades. I know what it takes to put out a lesson even only 30 minutes long. But to put out the lessons that you do, in addition to the incredible graphics that accompany the lesson, the effort and dedication are not lost on any serious teacher of any discipline. If there is such a thing as karma, you will be handsomely rewarded for all of your hard work, freely given to so many people. Thank you, Oliver.

@@NewJazz I think we all absolutely agree! I am a piano (classical) teacher since more than 20 years and had a few tries on doing jazz-improvisation but never really got into it. YOUR videos made me finally getting into it and enjoying it and also teaching some of it to my students and they really enjoy (90% of them I would say). Thank you from Switzerland!

WOW. Most instructors and teaching books just tell you to "play around" or "just noodle around" to improv. THIS GUY actually gives you a template to learn on. Please donate as if you just took a private lesson, because you aren't going to find a better teacher live or internet!!!

piano school dropout here; it’s be 15 years since I had a bad experience when learning to play. I bought a keyboard a couple of years ago but have been feeling intimidated and not sure where to begin. Your lessons have made me feel hopeful and want to practice very hard again. They don’t make me feel like I am a child nor are they too difficult to keep up with, you have a gift, so Thank you!!!
