THE MODES: a Basic Introduction with a Crazy Continuation...

In this lesson we'll have a lot of fun learning and playing the 7 Modes - also named "Church" Modes or "Major" Modes. First I'll introduce you to the Modes and I'll show you an easy method to learn the Modes based on how they actually sound. In that way you'll learn the Modes by ear rather than by theory.
Then we just go crazy and we combine several modes and play "Multi Mode".
Then we completely break the boundaries of the Modes and we play Non-Diatonic...
Finally I'll provide you with inspiration to continue the work on your own hand, exploring the Modes, creating "New Jazz" sounds.

This is the only tutor I have found who I believe teaches the modes the 'right way round'. Most approach this from a more formal way, whereas this teaches by explaining the sound of the modes and how they are related in terms of tonal colour. I have read books, watched tutorials but this was the missing connection I have been looking for. Excellent!

Ariel Schumann Maybe not Berklee but you have to study and learn. And live. Any music that you learn is great but must interact with every other part of life. And with itself. If you are talking with children what do you discuss? Socrates? The meaning of life? The Pythagorean theory? I’m not talking about dummying down either. Study can help you acquire the maturity to know when to do what. Experience too. It’s like imaging Goliath on the battle field taunting his enemies to fight him. Who wants to do this? It’s a waste of time, unless like him you lack good and positive personality traits as Goliath did, and was showed up by a child. I think all this can be good.

@@ancientdeeds6634 Music school helps you get contacts which maybe get you jobs later on. Networking is a big part of music school. I don't really know where in the world you are, but it should be a no brainer to join if you don't have to go into deep monetary debt. So maybe consider european conservatories.

This is basically one of if not the main boon of piano magic I guess ... coming from guitar I dug deep to the core of youtube videos and found nothing quite alike that would describe the magic behind all the good players. It's not about playing fast, it's about understanding. I found pentatonic scales and then the modes that are like extended scales and which then inhibit all the main chords that can be accessed easily through caged method. Caged method would be intrinsically intertwined with the pentatonic scales and their respective modes. Once this is explained the whole fretboard is UNLOCKED! You are no longer interested in learning mere songs but just enjoy playing and embellishing everything you hear with a speck of your personal touch. I wished to rediscover this on piano and you just laid it there so free for the taking and this knowledge is like a pearl in the wast ocean of youtube videos where none truly explains the inner workings, whereas you just describe everything so patiently and serenely. No "thank you" can express the value and appreciation of the content in your videography! Ironically, Thank you!! :D

Absolutely brilliant explanation of the Major modes. Not just theory about degrees and changing starting point, but real knowledge of how modes actually work, changing the music from darker to brighter and the part showing how moving simple patterns by 4ths and 5ths and how it changes the modes, was mind expanding. I've never take a lesson on keyboard or piano, and I play keyboard and most recently piano since 1989. I'm not good at all, tonight I went in my basement on my old keyboard and make some practice after hearing the third or the fourth time this video. Maybe tonight I was able to FEEL modal sound, I feel sounds that can make emotions on THE SAME ANNOYNG BASS .... it was awareness time for me.
