Does the light on the tweezers help get the placement of the pleats more precise so the application of the dye is more even?

Not necessarily. They just provide a little extra light when making pleats. Cool looking but definitely not necessary. I hope this helps😊💜

Awesome! I would wait until the 24 hours are up and then look another. If you don’t see any white spots then the dye penetrated all the way through. If all your dye has seeped in then add more dye and ice but if you have clumps of dye on top try adding just more ice first. I hope this helps😊🌈

Ooo love this one! Do you find you need to dye the other side of the banded bundle, or does it drop through well? Love all the videos- definitely going to try the paw tie dye one for a cushion for the dog bed!

Thank you! With ice dye projects there’s no need to dye the other side due to the the ice melting and spreading the dye through the entire shirt. In some circumstances you may need to add more ice or more dye powder and ice on top after the 24 hours but that’s typically on larger projects such as hoodies or tapestries. No it’s just tweezers with a light on them. I rarely use it because it’s distracting in the video. Tweezers help though!😊💜

I've never done the ice method, do you prefer that method over the liquid? Also I use Rit dye, and it never comes out as bright as yours!

Hi and thank you for your question. I personally love ice dyeing because of the marbled effect it gives to the finished project. Also rit dye is ok but definitely a lower quality dye. I would definitely recommend upgrading to high quality fiber reactive dyes from places like Dharma Trading Company or Grateful Dyes. Hi there! I have a question for you. Iam relatively new to tie dying and I had some issues when I washed my shirts after rinsing them out... I had let the shirts sit for 24 hours and rinsed until the water looked clear. My shirts looked beautiful until I put them in the washer. The colors blended and came out sort of pink. I just washed them on a regular wash cycle with normal detergent. Could you possibly tell me what I did wrong? Thank you.

Hi and thank you for your question. The first thing I would ask is what kind of dye are using. I use high quality fiber reactive dye that I get from Dharma Trading Company. I actually have a link to their website in the description box of all my videos. Second I use Synthrapol textile detergent for the first wash which helps the dye hold its color. I have a link in the description box for that as well which I purchase from Amazon. Also are you soaking in soda ash for at least 20 minutes and tying up damp but not sopping wet? Soda ash is a dye fixative meaning it helps create the chemical bond that allows for the dye to react with the fabric and hold. And lastly if you’re doing any projects where you are leaving white in them I highly suggest soaking the shirt in Dawn dish soap and hot water for a half hour. Rinsing and repeating a few times until that water runs clear and that helps rid the excess dye and stop it from spreading. I hope all this helps😊

@@RiahsTieDye hi thank you so much for your response! I purchased a Doodlebug Tie Dye Party Kit, so I'm going to assume it's probably not the best quality dye. However I also realize that I untied them prior to rinsing them, so that probably wasn't the best move. I dyed some more shirts this morning, so tomorrow I will leave them tied when I rinse them, and I am going to use Synthrapol to wash the shirts. Hopefully that will help. Also, you do untie them when you wash them, right? And you wash them in very hot water, correct?

That definitely does happen sometimes but if you don’t disturb the shirt at all once the ice is on it until you rinse it you have a better chance of not getting that murky brown and the ice melting straight down through the colors and now spreading out. Not a guarantee but sometimes I get lucky. Lol😊
