Glorious landscape and locomotives. Listen to THAT 25NC…. Beyond that, words are inadequate to the task.

Oh yes, our old 25NC 3488 could bark. She was an amazing machine and never let us down. Thankfully we saved her from the scrappers and is now at Sandstone Railway

@@Adventurescot Somehow that’s a great relief; almost like hearing an old friend is still around

Great video, thank you Richard, yes we all miss the era of the big steamers that roamed all over South Africa. Greetings from Russia.

Glad you enjoyed. I'm surprised it actually showed in Russia with the situation right now. I hope your ok there

Great video. I visited SA and Zimbabwe a few years later. Sadly steam on Kimberly-De Aar had just ended by then but Bulawayo was still a city of steam. Got my permits from the same man, Israel N'hari, and during the depot visits and footplate rides I actually got the controls for a short while of an 16A when I told the driver that I was working with steam on a preserved railway. Also cool those film clips from Hex River Pass in the 1930s with class 15CB and a 14C helper, the main classes employed there before the 15E's and 23s took over.

Thank you for re-posting , or posting this. So many memories changing over from Class 32 diesel hauled SWA train at De Aar to the big 25 class steam boys. What a ride to Kimberley! The "draadkarre" to Johannesburg was so uneventful.

Yes even those old 32s had a bit of character but the steam was the true machine of the railways. As for the draadkarre, well, i'm not a big fan of those boring boxes

Did Enchantress survive into preservation? I know Maria and Jennifer from Michael Woods’ documentary apparently didn’t?
