Hey buddy, I have moved far away to the wonderful Alps of Slovenia. You wont see me at the Cove for a very long time. Have a watch at my other clips and see where I live nowadays. Its just magical here and great for biking . Was out on Enfield today and it was 0 Celsius but totally dry with glorious sunshine. Have a look at this clip. I live just up the road kzbin.info/www/bejne/npCUdGqgi8eDmtEsi=-xUIkf8DyCdnmoGy

In 1988 or 89 I was working at Tembisa hospital and heard an engine on the shunt at Olifantsfontein. I slipped away and went to the bridge near the Trade Test Centre just in time to see you departing for Germiston in a 15CA.
@Adventurescot20 күн бұрын
That old shunt was sometimes a nightmare as you signed on at 03h30 and sometimes never got back to shed until about 7pm. Of course when you booked off and looked at the next days roster it was hell to find you were on that same shift yet again. Home, eat, sleep and back to work all in less than 8 hours. However they were for sure great times in my life

Good memories riding Trans Karroo. Children today are missing out on so much! 1988 and 1989 did this trip twice rented 1st class coupe, best part was the meals and early morning coffee. It also cost you and a leg. SAR rocked in those years.

Yknow can't help thinking that south African railway companies made a big mistake getting rid of steam engines that had been bought years ago of course the argument for getting rid of steam is high maintenance costs but fitting /engineering workshops just as the same as diesels have now just can't see the point after all south Africa is sat on coal seams diesel has to be imported in

This is a cool old film back in 1994 of these operations of steam locomotives over in South Africa.

Pretty cool run of this engine. This isn’t so bad of old footage back in 1991.

That GL Class Garratt is pretty incredible here, good video too. A unique looking engine operating over in Africa.

Watching the videos that have been posted brings back wonderful memories of train travel. Hanging out on the stations watching the steam trains. Every kid had a dream of being a train driver. Thanks for these posts 🤗👍

I fired this engine in 1986 with driver Swart Kat ( Karel ) in Kimberly to Bloemfontein. The most power I had the opportunity to fire.😂😂❤😂😂

Such beautiful views! I also have a battle green Classic 500, 2018. Just love it! Mine was tight and buzzy until around 3k miles. It got smoother and more powerful. It is more comfortable to ride now. The stock Avon tires are horrid, get rid of them if you have them. Very slippery on wet roads. I put on larger Shinko's, I also have Shinko's on my BMW R1200RT and they are VERY grabby and inexpensive too. Nice ride! Cheers from Southwestern USA (New Mexico).

What a beautiful locomotive. My congratulations. Now, with all respect (and I mean that), could you please time it? It's already a knockout, and the transformation would likely be startling.

Hi! I’m thinking about buying this bike as my first ever bike . And I want to use it for adventures in Greece , Italy and other nearest countries . But I’m afraid it cannot safely deal with long roads between cities . But I saw your channel , and seems you are traveling by this bike . How far ? Do you still own it ? I saw you also travel by other bikes .
@anton_to_adventures3 ай бұрын
But you sold it , right ? So eventually small bikes are not that fun any more ? Let me know . Because I’m going to by my first bike , and I’m considering cb125f

I dont believe steam locomotives are obsolete, we just got way into diesel and electric locos for their ease of activating
@Adventurescot3 ай бұрын
The big problem in todays world is getting the younger generation to work steam. Its hard work and something most of todays youngsters do not know. Diesels & electrics are sit back and get fat machines

Kev, how is the playback on your screen?? Watching this it is so poor I can hardly even see the other bikes. Perhaps its my internet or screen but its bloody poor

Interesting video, the type of roads I like to ride. The video playback quality is not the best but still enjoyable to watch.

Oh it has been shared hundreds of times. That day John and i left Kimberley about 30 minutes late so went like the clappers to make up time. At 1 minute on clip we are racing through Witput with regulator open. Normally we would be coasting through there but as I say we wanted to get to De Aar on time and sure enough we did. Probably the fastest trip I ever had on any steam loco on that line

The 19C (to me) sounds slightly different to the 19D, because of the rotary cam valve gear , you don’t hear the admission valve sliding across , only the pistons driving the wheels 🤔🤔

I really hope this new Government of National Unity and the New Transport minister can turn around our railways , we have the most scenic branch lines that can be hauled by steam on excursions like THF used to do . The tourism influx and creation of local jobs would be immense
