I just found this leader from Ted talk. He inspired me to ask ourselves deeply what really worked for humans in business context. The industrialized & commodity approach of building centralized company v.s. running by freedom and responsible workers with enough business protocols to be self-sustained. This is true to empower employees. I admire his heart, his courage to experiment this in his company. Crazy but profound. Love it.

Ricardo really understands the concept of God-given free will. Most CEOs and managers wish to artificialy assume a role greater than the God Himself--which is the most ridiculous and ineffective thing one can attempt. That analogy with ridding a horse down the hill really brings his fundamental idea home. Can't thank Ricardo enough.

Manage The issue of Ego. If... oh my god.... If... we as humans could do that... recognize the ego and control it's stupid actions and suggestions that occur in your head. That would change the whole ballgame of life completely and then we would finally go back to the essence of life... just enjoy the ride as much as you can and love. There is one thing sure... it will not take longer then around 95 years for you to die so... enjoy it while you can. This Semler guy is a huge inspiration for me as a company leader... and i do my best to practice his view on managing. Grew from 1 tot 25 self sufficient vocalcoaches in 4 years so.. we are on our way... It is scary as hell and a great adventure at the same time. Thanx for posting Evan.

Great video...love all the 10 distinctions and Ricardo Semler's way of seeing. The two most valuable for our world today in my view are Let Go of the Past and Give Up Control. If people everywhere moved in those directions we could see massive improvements in the human influence on the planet.

I've one important question for you: what are people have to do when they are stuck in their job's? There are so many of us dealing with management culture that doesn't fit at all, it is hard to escape.
@EvanCarmichael

1) Remind yourself that you do hard things. 2) You're not stuck, you're just getting ready for the next evolution. 3) Start your business on the side until you're making enough money to leave the job.

Definitely some different perspectives here that I have to respect and consider more. I agree with basic principles here. I'm not in full acceptance of his context and reasoning. That is the beauty of the world though. You can be in different schools of thought and still find success and happiness. I love #7 & #10 though!

In the book “Maverick” Ricardo Semler discusses the success story behind the world’s most unusual workplace: Semco. Semler does things different than organizations that rely on traditional autocratic management style. Semler chose a decentralized participative style. According to Semler, the era of power and control is definitely over. Freedom and taking responsibility are the core values of Semco. This involves capitalizing on common values such as love, trust and transparancy. The following blog (with infographic) explains the story of Semler in more detail: visueelhr.wordpress.com/2016/12/03/vision-of-semco-style/

Well, after all, in one hundred years there is only the good to remember, what the point to praise Marco Aurelio deeds, it doesn't serve the world today. So, in the field of copyship the next step is a jump. With the infinite world of possibility, why spend time in over and over action, we needed it in the beginning for stable base.

Thanks for the Top 10 series in general. Semler is my least favorite so far. Certainly he's been successful and this list of ten is OK, but this Semler talks like a socialist who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and come to find out, that's exactly what he is. As a result, he comes off as self-righteous and hypocritical. I agree with some of his methods, and I'm glad what he's doing is working for his company, but after watching this video I'm not interested in seeing or hearing any more from him. He inherited a successful company from his father, and he made some good moves to create a flexible and supportive work environment, fired some unneeded management and made the company a flatter organization, etc.... OK, good, but this is something many companies in the US have been doing for years. Am I supposed to be impressed? I'm not. Also, some of the things he says are just naive and infantile: "all of a sudden it stops raining and we can't control the climate...." Excuse me, but man has never controlled the climate, and never will. OK, maybe he's just babbling a bit or it's just too much for him to be accurate in English. At least he tried.... Also, He says, "There is a very small relation between success and money". Hmm, so he says while sitting on his vast, manicured estate with stables and tennis courts.... The fact is that there is a DIRECT correlation between the two. Sorry that's just the truth. As a wise man once said, "Wealth is the ability to FULLY experience life". While wealth has other functions, I have generally found this to be very true, as have many others, hence the general worldwide quest for wealth in every corner of the world! Then Semler says, "If you're giving back, you took too much", then he takes shots at Buffett and Gates who are both great humanitarians, own and run companies, provide good jobs to tens of thousands, AND give huge sums to the poor, and public works and the arts -- Excuse me Mr. Semler, but you're no Bill Gates and you're certainly no Warren Buffett. Gates and Buffett are doing just exactly what you said you'd do, giving along the way, but in VAST amounts, so I think you should shut your pie-hole. Also, that line about being on your deathbed and not wishing you had spent more time at work -- old and overused. I don't mean to offend by this posting, just my opinion.... I'm sure others see him differently.

I see your points and agree with some, but you completely lost me during the last two paragraphs. The fact that you directly associate wealth with money is a bit troubling, and quite narrow-minded. For instance, I never ever interpreted the quote of your wise man to be about money. That seems so foolish and so materialistic. And frankly, I don't think that's what is meant by the quote at all. To add to it - "experience life" has so many different meanings. In regards to the last paragraph - that was in no way a shot towards Buffett or Gates. He uses that as a metaphor and then says how crazy it would be - that illustrates that Buffett does exactly the opposite (he does give to the poor). You're kinda reaching there. You criticize him about his extremely solid English, but seem to misinterpret a lot about his speech. Just my two cents!
