Forgot to mention one important thing: ALWAYS sand your wood before you trace your design (even if it is a plywood board). This will give you a smoother foundation to work and a better result.

Thank you for all the wonderful information .... I am just wondering which machine you use? And which tips you recommend. Thank you again.

Thank you so much Sue. I've been using the Optima 1 single burner for some years now and it still works perfectly. The price is also very competitive. The tips I use the most are 3: Medium Spear Point Shader Modified Writing tip 5/8" Shader spoon The ball point tip candy be handy but not essential. Hope this helps.

Thank you again, Richy. I have just one question. And that is, do you not like to use a lazer jet printer, and then transfer the image using a heated transfer tip...?
@richypyrography4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerald. To be honest I've never tried. I try to keep away from everything that is not graphite. My profession is graphics designer and I work with Lazer printers. One of the things that I was told was to be extremely careful with the ink cartridges because they are cancerous. Knowing that, I would recommend not to burn over that ink. You also have that tracing paper that sticks to the wood and you can burn over it. That's another thing I wouldn't use. There's still plastic and other components on it. I don't think it's safe.

@@richypyrography Thank you once again for sharing your experience and knowledge. I will heed your advice. It's astounding how much life threatening advice is given out on the web. I worked as an assistant to a well known sculptor for several months. We cast a lot in polyester resin, and didn't use a mask. He died prematurely of brain cancer a few years later.

You're very welcome. I believe there's always a way for companies to sell their equipment and ideas going over the safety laws somehow. Unfortunately not everyone has prior experience with the products and rely on their statements. Like you mentioned, sometimes the result is devastating.

@richypyrography3 жыл бұрын

Hi Richy, I have been doing pyrography for a while, (although not in your class) I have done scenery, flowers animals and portraits, I have used the fixative I use to protect my pencil sketches I have also used acrylic spray, do you think I need to use the sealant as well, if so what is it.
@richypyrography4 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil. The sealant gives a first protective layer. Makes the wood less porous. But, if you apply the acrylic, it will be absorbed by the wood (at least the first coat) and close it also. In my opinion it's not essencial. I think that you can keep protecting it the same way you do. The one I use is a water based acrylic sealant called Tapaporos. I have searched online but couldn't find an exact match on Amazon.
