@@hoorbanoarif3792 i tried it, and found it to barely be enough to cook it through (just due to the rice cooker itself, mine is kinda shit); my solution was to just finish it off on the stove for 5-10 minutes, ending with a good sear. Since you'd ideally be using a fattier dark meat (legs or just thighs) theres little risk of overcooking too much. Only takes a bit of extra time and an extra dish that you could have preheating while the cooker is going. Hopefully this isn't too late to help, and while it does change the dish a bit its still really nice this way.

Fry the garlic, double the amount of ginger, and scallion in a pan of seasame oil to bring out all of its flavour then put it into the rice cooker. Add a bundle of Pandan Leaf into the cooker and let it do its magic. After your chicken cooks, put it into ice water bath for about 8-10 minutes to lock all the juices in before serving. The chilli typically isnt sweet per se. It is 90% spicy and 10% sweet. But it is also personal preference to go with whatever you want. The gelatinous fat layer that forms under the skin is what makes it so good! Also, if you have extra rice, it tastes so good if u make fried rice with it There, advice from someone from SEA who grew up with chicken rice :)

I'm surprised nobody has also commented that in China they have a very different chicken than the chickens in America and they're MILES tastier than the chickens in America. The chickens have this distinct yellow color and fat thats so flavorful. They're so flavorful that the chickens with some additional flavorings is enough to be a meal on its own. The chicken he uses is clearly not those Chinese chickens but I just want to point this out since everytime I see people comment on a chicken rice video they think it's bland but it's absolutely not!

Guys don't knock it till you try it. It was surprisingly flavorful. All the ingredients really pull through and bounce off each other perfectly. Beauty in simplicity. One of the most enjoyable chicken dishes I've had in a while and I had even forgotten to buy chicken broth. Would definitely make again.

I'm sure it tastes great. I'm a huge sweet chili fan. But it could really use a little something for color. A dish like this could end up getting scored unfairly low in a cooking competition because of "poor plating". Presentation is half the battle, especially on KZbin.

It might look odd presentation wise to you, and you also have a point with yes: I could figure out a better way to cook it to look presentable. But as a full time student who works and has no time for all that extra stuff this is a pretty convenient meal to make, less clutter and easy to prepare. I love black pepper so I could technically just add extra seasoning to my liking afterwards and make few adjustments. It’s all about how quick he prepared the dish. It’s all going in my belly either way I wouldn’t care much about presentation lol

There are certain kitchenware which you can use which can cook the food perfect even though you can cook it in a rice cooker generally its for rice hence the name ricecooker however if you have limited space then its fine.

@@user-bz6sr6ju2r yes but there is this fun thing called a pressure cooker, which can be used as a rice cooker but can also be used to cook many many more things, for convenience👍 Rice cookers and pressure cookers are honostly almost identical, the only difference being that pressure cookers usually have a valve you use to release the steam and usually have more gimmicks so i think using rice cooker is totally ok 👍

I tried it and despite the simplicity in the preparation of the dish, it tastes really good. I removed the skin and made the scallion chili oil on the side. People are saying that there is no flavor in this meal, but go to a Vietnamese restaurant and order a Chicken pho. The flavor is similar. Also, Uncle Roger likes Hainanese Chicken if you actually paid attention to his fried rice video.

People don't understand that this dish came from a period of economic downfall and was optimised to taste flavourful despite its bland physical attribute. The chicken looks like it has no seasoning but remember that it's being placed in the rice cooker drowned in stock, sesame oil and garlic; And these three are enough to give a burst of flavours despite being simple ingredients. The ginger is there as well to remove the unwanted smell and aftertaste that chicken tend to give when steamed/boiled.

EVERYONE cooks different I make chicken and rice only difference is marinade my chicken brown both sides then add chicken to the cooking rice ...all is good js

You can do that, but poached chicken has a different flavor than searing it first. The same for Vietnamese Chicken pho. There is also a Provençal poached chicken soup too. It has its place, also as deli meat in sandwiches or as a base for chicken salad.

This is one of my favorite meals. I usually make a ginger scallion sauce and add a drizzle of Chiu Chow chili oil. The rice cooker method is so convenient but then you don't get the chicken broth on the side, which can be the most comforting part.

@@rickjohnson1719 this kind of food works the same way soup does, liquid ingredient enhances the flavor of all the food that is soaked in the ingredient, of course if you use a neutral stock like a store bought brand it isnt going to taste particularly good, and thats why you should either season the stock OR just make your own stock. Also the idea of “real flavour” is actually stupid, does that imply “fake flavour” exists? All flavour is flavour buddy, just like how tomatos dont taste like waters and sugars arranged in a specific way, and how you can bring out flavours like saltiness from caramelising onions, that seasoned stock will impart some really nice mellow flavours into the food

This is on my top five favorite foods list. One thing that's a must that was left out in this prep though, was chicken fat. Also, the dipping sauce is a super important part of this dish. The channel 'Hot Thai Kitchen' has an instructional on how to make it.

one thing i like to do personally, is make a simple sauce with light soy, oyster sauce with lots of fried shallots.. goes great on the chicken and rice. (the chili sauce is also a must of course).

Good idea. Personally, I do add some black pepper & substitute sweet chilli with scotch bonnet pepper sauce to increase the depth of flavour.

You need another sauce to drizzle over the chicken itself other than the chilli dipping sauce bro. Mix light soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and sesame oil in a bowl and drizzle it over the cut up chicken pieces. That's how Malaysians/Singaporeans do it.

@@MaelRadec42 you don't season with salt and pepper only to dip them in broth later on, that will wash away those salt and pepper. You can put salt and pepper directly into stock and boiling process will take care of penetrating them. This dish could be simple and good but there is no way he is pro chef.

Hainanese Chicken is probably one of the most unappetizing looking chicken dishes I've seen. But it's actually pretty good. So fragrant, needs very little sauce. :D
