Apart from the advert sections, it boggles my mind how work-intense rice growing is. So much manual labor - thank you farmers so much for doing it, I wouldn't survive a single day of this work.

Thank you so much farmer. I just came back from Baguio and during our commute back to Manila we passed by ricefields. That made me curious on how it was processed. I know it was a hard intensive labor but wow it made me realize how intensive the whole process is and imagine going through all that work for months, only to be destroyed by one typhoon in a few hours. 😢 Again my hearfelt gratitude to all farmers our there. I will now cherish every grain of rice I eat and do my best not to throw away food. ❤

Additionally, the flooded plains can also be used for growing water animals (such as duck) or aquaculture (small fish). In case of duck, it provides an additional income with largely no losses (though a small loss in crop yield may occur), a natural pesticide killer and soil enchancer. Aquacultures are more tricky, but the point of the comment is that rice farmers may effectively use their lands not solely for rice production. I am living nowhere near where rice is usually grown, so correct me if I am wrong.

For as long as you promote manual labor to prepare, plant, and harvest rice the Philippines will forever be behind most of the ASEAN countries. Always importing because Filipinos have a very insatiable hunger for rice, one of the main culprits of diabetes in the country.

vze1lat7 There will be mate. I’m working on a small scale project right now. Exactly 7 days ago, I introduced rice seeds to the grow media. They are at the moment about 1dm high. The roots have the same length. I don’t do this to make money. I do this experiment to see if there is a way to improve the harvest even in dry areas, to spread the knowledge around the world (if I succeed).

@@usmanabdullahi1893 Thanx for asking. Partial success I would say😐. I had to abort my “mission” after successfully growing seedlings😞. I’m now stuck in my home country (Sweden) and can not continue my project. If you are genuinely interested to continue, I would be more than happy to share my experience to that moment of growth with you. I’m not looking for solutions that make me rich, I’m looking for solutions so people can put food on their table. Many parts in the world have not enough water, and rice (farmed traditionally) wastes a lot of water.
