You missed some major tricks When you was at the top you couldn't go as far as you liked to. Don't go back until it allows Press n on pc to lower the paddy and m to raise the paddy You will find the relevant buttons on the console too So if you raise the starting point the top end wouldn't be lowered as much / harshly And it's easier to deal with raised parts near the road than it is when lower Always start on the side you want the water pump It's placed halfway through the first line you make So if you want it nearer the corner put three dots in the first line to move it from centre If you have leveled first like I do you can also lower the paddy to stop the burns from raising up so you can drive next to them on flat land

Another fun fact - The water pump will be positioned along the first line you make! So make sure your first line is in an accessible/logical area!

I've been trying this as an experiment and have been having a right nightmare with it. It has to be the most frustrating thing in the game, a bit like landscaping in general which I've always tried to avoid. I don't even get that cursor that you have so have to make several attempts in guessing where the starting point is going to be. What I have concluded though is that when I finally do create a rice field for real it will have to be on the flattest, squarest field possible - forget irregular shaped fields with gradients...!

I'd really like to try some long grain rice on my new frontier map but the fields are too much of a pain in the *ss to place unless I make a tiny field. I don't know if they are just buggy on this map or if they need work on all maps, but I've watched a bunch of videos and it seems simple enough in concept.

Did you find out more about the restricted areas? Found them the hard way when I sold those little sheds and then couldn't place anything in the same spot.

Can be raised and lowered. Can't remember control. But help menu will tell you.

Can you plant other crops such as soybeans in a rice field?, or will it not grow?

Yes you can, it acts just like a normal field. it's just a pain to harvest when you smack into the water pump

It will grow but it does a weird thing with grass. It seems like the rice fields have a mask over them that doesn't let lose fill types to be deposited on the ground so it'll make giant piles on the edges. It also seems like it messes up the GPS or it does on the first 3 versions of the game. Haven't done straw or veggies on a rice field yet.
